The sketch thread!

christ, makasu, I love the way you do faces. the extra definition on the nose in particular; it's very cute.

Hahaha thank you very much Mawk! I actually hate the way I do faces. But I swiped the style from Ryan Ottley and its been slowly adapting to my own style. So I guess its a good thing if people like them. :D But if I draw a guys face its a complete disaster. :/

ANYWAYS!!!!

Here's a crappy 10 min doodle I just did while the Silent Hill OST blasts through my computer.

Nothing to fancy. Just messing around.

I think its been more than 24 hours and if not then delete this post and I'll post it in my previous post.

Something I'm working on currently:

catpower.jpg

I like it so far. :) Which means I"m going to hate it later on in life. :(

Did I mention that I love this thread?

EDIT: Man I didn't measure out any proportions. :p

MAkasu: cool. Maybe the turn of the head is a bit too much to do in real life.

The guy's leaning on some windowsill or something, with the left leg and arm hanging loose. took ~10 minutes, but then again, all my shit takes 5/10 minutes to me, impatient me. Draw completely on the tablet, hence the sketchiness

Y'know what Dax after testing your theory in real life it is too much. :p Better luck next time.

Have you tried sketchbook pro? I believe its free and it'll eliminate the "ms paint look" that I'm getting from that. Although with some refinement that could very easily be something great. It already reminds me of Rye's work.

Just messing around again. The initial pose I had in my head went way out the window and as such this pose doesn't make any sense. :( But I'll get it. I hope...

you have to upload an image from your computer before you can show it in tags. ohsk is probably your easiest bet -- hit "Browse" select the file you want to upload, and then "Upload". once it's up, it'll give you a link to the image. just copy the image's URL and use that.

p.s. oh, I totally forgot about the "Add an image/file" thing next to the reply box. that should work, too.

robin: the breasts are located a bit too much down, looks like they're sagging. The hair, by the way, seems to do too much and distracts from the face and one can't even see the neck.

There also might be some disproportion between her midbody and the length of the legs- the legs might be too short. I noticed this from the arms- try standing up and you'll see that one's arms fall a bit below the waist.

rydell.jpg

cast (in order of appearance)
silver mess
the interrobang
Argument Box
not kilroy
Rydell Ng, who you might recognize because I've been drawing/spriting him forever
a fairly decent hand with megan fox's clubbed thumb ruining it
the hand of Canti from FLCL idk just roll with it

uggghhhhh I hate drawing hands

all my characters from now on are having their hands in their pockets SELF-IMPROVEMENT CAN SUCK IT

so here is Rydell! I drew his arms too long, much like I did with that guy who had the chinese name and lacked Rydell's taste in sunglasses. he has a bass that was literally just a ten-minute deal I have to get better at drawing objects. in addition, I need to stop phoning in pants and avoiding feet

man he has such a B3 face going on

Hey you're starting to get hands down better. I used to hate them too but now I actually rather like them. When you get used to drawing them you can do all sorts of bendy impossible poses for them that look legit.
You have the right idea of blocking out the hand first but take it a step farther. Draw it skeletally. Block out where the joints are using circles, and the bones using rounded rectangles. remember the thumb is roughly as long as the index finger; its ball joint just starts much higher up on the hand. You can start its joint up near the wrist. It bells outward at an angle right before the palm split. Its joint should be in an even slight arc aligned with the knuckle joints of the fingers. The tip should be aligned with the arc of the finger joints.

Everything on the human body works in arcs, it's really quite interesting once you really start getting into it.

Yeah Im not supergood in drwing but I think its good anyway. Ofc I will think of your advices the next time I draw a fantasy character. No her hair is very long, you dont see much of the neck.

Thank you

Mawk: While you're getting better something about that drawing is throwing me off. It might be the arc the elbows are in. While I know the arms bend kinda outwards its always looked odd to me. Also why is there blue paint on the page??? The face reminds me of Gorillaz for some strange reason though...

yeah, I think I see what you mean. the pose is sort of weird, just in general; I didn't put nearly enough thought into it. :x

the blue paint is actually silver

most I can tell you is that mistakes were made

(I shot a robot)

That's pretty nifty. It's like a sketchy Rorschach test. (I'm totally seeing a bunny with a toupee and wings made out of ribbons btw.)

O_o what kind of paint is that??? I've been looking for some good paints besides oil [Imo] of course.
Hahah blue robot. But see even when I draw a forward body shot I suffer from the same thing. It looking weird. It might be because there are no defined muscles? Or we're just not meant to have that pose. :(

Dax: That is pretty nifty looking. I see a robot. Like if you defined that sketch you'd have something amazing on hand!

NexS: Hahaha thanks man, practice is all. There's still a lot I don't understand. :( I wish I was as good as Ven. But meh in due time. But thanks! hahah Actually I'm all about the behinds. Its just a while ago someone complained about me drawing little boobies so ever since then I've been trying to expand them so to speak.

NONETHELESS!!!

I've got a long way to go on this OC. Hopefully I'll finish it but legs are giving me trouble all of a sudden. And I'm not to sure if I like the direction. Maybe I'll flip it.

Makusu: the shading of the left hand is not perfect- we all know where it's going, but it needs a bit more definition, because right now it looks almost short/stumpy.

the legs look pretty alright to me, although the parts where you feel you could improve are understandable.

The face has too much of the lighter, white color compared to the rest- maybe the definition of it is different from the rest.

Nice job overall. and, heh heh, expanding the boobies.

Its a sketch of course. Hell it'll probably change before I even finish it. The pose as well. But meh its good that you noticed that because pointing out my shortcomings helps me in the long haul. :) Not to sound sarcastic because reading that sounds very sarcastic...

EDIT: ADAM WARREN STYLE!!! Kinda sorta....
