The sketch thread!

A few sketches I made while in Germany:

very cute you guys :O

but you're so unsure when you draw! there are so many erase lines and smudges and reworked curves. have confidence in your strokes, even if they suck--they will only get better if you practice with confidence. erasers and reworked lines and small strokes are a crutch that will hobble you.

(excluding erasers if you're working with charcoal and negative/subtractive composition)

Lookin' good, action. The first one's really great - except for the sketchiness that ven touched on, the only thing I could nitpick is that her ankles seem a bit big for her bodytype. The second one has a few more problems, such as the slightly skewed angle of the head. I understand she's supposed to be looking up, but all I can see is a broken neck. Her arms, wrists, and knees are kinda chubby, and her arms a wee bit short, making her look kinda young - which is a little odd combined with the adult breasts.

I hope I don't sound too nitpicky. They're interesting designs and it looks like your anatomy's improving a ton!

You guys better get sketching.

I saw this picture on deviant art from the user kathy100 and I decided to use it as a reference to draw my character Reilly Button in that pose

Here's one I drew standing with her outfit that I finally decided I wanted her to have. Didn't know what to draw on her until then. DON'T WORRY GUYS IT'S SAFE

the first seems to have really curvy stomache. There's also a slight emphasis on the eyebrows. Other than that I had no problems.

The second looks just a tad bit different from the first. Maybe it's the angle or eyebrows or something. The cloth covering her left leg should be slightly emphasized, as it looks a bit straight sticking out, particularly at where her legs divide- Her right leg is there, and it took a moment to notice the left leg was under the cloth or something like that,

I see what you mean. I kinda over did it on those curves and those eyebrows do seem a bit thick

Yeah it's kinda hard to tell without colors but I'll try buffering up the clot to make it look. Clothy instead of merging with the leg.

what im excited about

working on a mock for an interesting ethnic oldguy. what ethnicity? it's a secret~
im making the features more pronounced as a style thing. it's more fun to draw big giant cheekbones and exaggerated expressions.
what should his hat say?
i was kind of thinking of "LUCKY" with a bullethole in it.

I love it, it's just a headshot with a neutral expression but there's a ton of personality leaking from it. His right eye seems lower on his face than his left though? I'm guessing it was intentional since you're always showing me how to block out features and anatomy first.

yea he's sposed to be fairly unpretty and asymmetrical. i think im gonna do a number of expressions w/ him because it's fun fucking with his imperfections. i usu draw pretty ladies and it gets boring.
i figure he's missing some teeth, maybe got some good gingivitis working. a wide-maw raucous laugh would be interesting w/ all those wrinkles.
gotta beat SC2 though @_@

I got a little too excited and quickly sketched down this pretty cool-looking image I had in my mind before it went away. Too bad my sketch doesn't do it justice. Lol.
kodadragon.png

The guy's right arm and the dragon's right wing are probably at the wrong angles, too.

The dragon's head is too small for that length of neck, and I can't tell if there are biceps on those wings (there should be), other than that, the line work is too light too critique more. here is a good dragon tut, and here is one for wings, and one for claws/talons.

Yeah, I know about the head. I even wrote it on there. The dragon's biceps completely skipped my mind, whoops. Thanks for the tut links.

i figured it out, the reason i'm always nagging at people for drawing anime is because i myself am terrible at it. her ear's like way too close to her eye and a whole bunch of other shit but my interest kind of petered out halfway through so damned if i'm gonna fix it

figured i'd try it though, and might as well amp up the nerd and do fanart of square's only worthwhile leading lady while i'm at it

edit - oh shit i just read though this page, thomas that's really awesome
