Pretty damn hard to draw crossed legs, in my opinion. Think the proportions are off because of them.

You're definitely improving :)
The window isn't quite on the perspective grid. And I think the problem for your crossed legs is that they should intersect at the knees, not at the middle of the thighs. That's just uncomfortable.

Keep up the good work

Here's a crappy drawing done by me on GRAPH PAPER! I actually haven't drawn in ages, since I've been debating rather or not it's worth it. O.oa

I also noticed the waist is too small! So I might just cut it off. :3 I also realized I didn't even finish her hair! YAY!

richard williams: the animator's survival kit

it is just fantastic

it shows you everything you will ever need to know about poses, hand poses, body poses, proportions, skewing proportions, etc etc etc
and then shows you how to move them
with and without props with diff directions with diff sexes and species and weight proportions

it even shows you what always gets me all hot & bothered about cartooning:
the incredibly basic shapes which you can use to combine to make up a body or a face
like jessica rabbit? she started as a circle over a heart over a teardrop
(p.s. he did Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)

its very cool

I actually just had to buy this book for a principles of animation class.

@strawberry flower

i really like the small circles you've put into the lips for some reason. not sure why.

maybe there's something with HER left eyebrows?

feeling something weird from the massive breasts. It looks a bit off, maybe there's something about the underside of her arms, the way the back goes up? or maybe the front/side of her chest, where it might go out a little too much?

i think the ears should be moved up slightly, a bit closer to the height of the eyes.

i have no clue what that thing going down her waist is, seeing as we're seeing her from one of those 3/4 angles.

is there something off about how the angle of the face is drawn, seeing as it's one of those 3/4 angles?

I'm guessing the stuff going down her torso is the laces on her corset thingy? not a Corsetologist by any means but I think they usually lace either in the front or back, but I'm not sure - normally I'd suggest GIS but I'd be afraid of all the 400lb ren faire lady pictures that would pop up

I've gotta admit, the big boobs + tiny waist + milk maid-looking outfit gives her kind of a "i just stepped off the set of a porno" look :x

it's good that you're drawing just to stay in the habit, don't take 2 month breaks at a time like I do

All of Strawberries chicks she draws always look like they just stepped out of a porno. Why do you think I draw so much H of them xD

Arm seems a little small
Waist to thin at bottom
Ears to big and droopy for Corinne's natural ears.
Boob in the back is too far out. Makes it seem bigger than the other
Otherwise great job my gurl

@Sekai
I really like this drawing, has a lot of emotion and feel and I can see the person's character real well. You should fix it up and color it maybe?

A drawing of a character for my game. JRPG-esque, I know. The outfit makes all the other characters look bland, and it's not even that detailed. I should redesign...

The hair and eyes will change. More japanese-straight bangs, and the eyes more serious/mean

My oh my there is A LOT of improvement going on in this thread! Its quite spectacular to see! :D

I haven't been drawing like I should have been doing and now that I've started college its going to catch back up with me. I've gotten to a point to where I like drawing eyes for some odd reason [even though this one is quite cartoony] but for some reason eyes just catch my attention as of late.

No reference used of course. As I'm very particular about using them when it comes to certain items. I'll reference a photo for a portrait but anything else I refuse to do so. :/

Back to school. :box:

Oh, hey, It's msam! (brings back a few memories?)

I like the hint of reflection, but moreso, the fact that there is more than one glint of light - and from different sources. Nice work.

Would like to see some thinner, more deliberate lines though - but that's just my opnion.
:)

hello my name is bacon and i still cannot draw even if I work hard at it :c

so basically, I have been zoomping in and trying to get all nitty gritty with poses and anatomy. im still terrible. i sort of copy moe oh dear. x:
I have been also working with stroke lines. It is not perfect, i still tend to do short bursts at times but I have been getting better. A lot of erase marks are also do to skeletal structure blocking and stuff. Not all of it however. :c

pros: it has a hand
cons: everything else including face and pose

it weighs your soul for all to know

One thing I have been working on in particular is shoulders.
And waists
I still cannot get females right it may be the lacking of fat clumps in my chest area
Those legs kill me
And the faces lets not get started with that
and the hands

Poses are a separate issue. I have been getting better with it. Im still not great at it but im trying. :c

oh dear indeed

seriously though, don't be so down on yourself. the "generic standing" poses aren't bad to do imo, it's not a bad way to teach yourself anatomy and structure before you branch off into posture and dynamic and poses and stuff, it's a natural progression.

tbh though I wouldn't have known that was a chick unless you said. not every woman has to be super curvy and hourglass-shaped, but generally their waist will be more indented and have wider hips (and also longer legs + shorter torsos, in contrast with most dudes with their longer torsos + shorter legs)

I noticed the lip sketches to the side, and I'm gonna repost this pic by Makasu because it helped me and I bet you could benefit too and also I'm totally glad he's posting art again :)

okay bacon, listen to me. this is an intervention. get a scanner. i don't care what kind of quality, how expensive it is - GET A SCANNER.

or don't it's not really a big deal i guess

so main things. don't get too worried about poses, clothes, characters, etc. right now. it's fun to make your own characters and experiment with designs and whatnot but when you're still learning anatomy don't let yourself get too caught up on whether a character has a cool pose or not. once you nail basic anatomy and proportion, then you can start working on dynamic poses. what you're doing now is fine - although it wouldn't hurt to

what matters is that you're trying, working at it, and doing it right! most of us here started drawing using terrible anime as a reference and have had to work out the skewed, grotesque appearances of our drawings for years. (or maybe it's just me vOv)

if you're still having trouble with your anatomy, post some of the skeletons/outlines you're making and maybe we (as in, moxie, venetia, or makasu) can help you out a little. i'm not well versed in that sort of thing!

by the way, do you ever draw from life? if you're stuck and want something to draw, take an object - anything, like a pencil, a cup, a book, whatever - and try and draw it the best you can. don't worry too much about specific details. what you should really focus on is

a. how lighting affects the object, how the different shades create definition
b. what lines you need to draw to define the object, and what is just extra detail
c. the general shape of the entire objects, and the different shapes within the object

drawing from life is a fantastic way to learn because you can physically manipulate the object yourself and see how things differ when you change the lighting, orientation, etc

the life drawing is 100% true, and also... just look at stuff. anything and everything, no matter how mundane. it's really simple and sounds retarded and redundant, but there's a big difference between normal lookin' and looking with the eyes of an artist. when you start really paying attention to the way light hits objects, colors mix, cloth folds, and all kinds of stuff, things start clicking together and making sense in your brain. it's hard to explain :x

edit - oh and I forgot to mention in my first post but I absolutely adore your monsters. they're very imaginative and a lot of them are sorta cutesy-whimsical but still very sinister, and it's really cool.

@NexS: That was a looooooonnnnnnngggg time ago. Back during when rmxp got started. I havent heard that name in over 4 years lol! Funny thing about that eye is the day I posted it we covered drawing the eye in class. So now I can draw more realisitic looking eyes.

Bacon: I personally think you can draw. You're able to get somewhat of a shape/form going. At least enough to tell that you're making people, monsters, etc what have you. But yes drawing from life would greatly benefit you. Or breaking things down. You can use numbers, shapes, or letters. Its about training your mind to interpret things a certain way. Keep going. You're doing good for someone who claims to know not what they're doing at all. :D as Dav said as well. He put it best! Keep going! I'd say try emulating your favorite artist. See the way the draw eyes, bodies etc. I wouldn't go so far as to say to just copy their work. But redrawing some of their images [attempting to] will greatly benefit you. I know that when I first started to learn how to draw I would mimic Captain Underpants [remember those books?] I actually have some of those drawings still. That was 2nd, 3rd grade. :)

I'd actually peg you as a more of a pockybox kind of artist as your character styling sorta reminds me of her style.

Moxie: You make me blush. I'm glad I could help. That tutorial is kinda shitty. You can't read my handwriting!!! :O I'll gladly redraw it if you'd like a better reference? The best way of thinking of the lips is imagine one of those bird kids usually draw. They're like wavy m's?
^^ <-or two of these put together and the bottom being a stretched u.

But I'm by no means an expert. I'm still learning A LOT.

Everyone's doing so great. I'll try and post more work as it comes. :)
