bacon, it looks like you've got the beginnings of a pretty cool style going on! the poses look alright to me, although I'm not really an authority I guess. also the main thing about drawing females is that they have narrower shoulders and wider hips than men.
also that little lip tutorial is pretty cool man! I've never really thought about perspective etc. when drawing them. gonna have to give that a try.
thanks guys yeah her arms & hand are pretty borked, I really need to take my own advice and practice hands sometime
@peri
that looks like a start to a really cute picture. you should definitely keep with it and keep us updated!
also I still really love the Node's design. you have a way of designing cool, iconic-looking characters without having to rely on making it ridiculously complicated and over-detailed.
edit - may as well put today's sketchdump in thisere post
I think simplistic character designs are awesome though, a lot of people (me included ) seem to struggle with making visually distinctive characters, so we compensate by adding a ton of accessories and unnecessary colors and that just doesn't help at all!
@strawberry
that's a big, big improvement in anatomy over the last one you posted! (and that hair flower is adorable :cute
her arms are two short for her body though. it might be due to the awkward angle of her left arm, but her arms look like they barely reach below her hip, which is too short (typically your hand will extent beyond your hip and reach about mid-thigh, inbetween the hip and knee)
it sounds retarded the way I explain it, so I would suggest checking out this right here. in that post is a link to Posemaniacs, which is a really nifty resource. the pose references are really great, but the most important thing isn't just to copy the pose for your own purposes but to try to learn the basic anatomy and structure behind it too.
as for the left arm, I can appreciate the pose that you were going for but in execution it looks rather awkward. with the way she's got her shoulders arched up, her arms would maybe look more natural resting in front of her
(although I somehow managed to put a right hand on a left arm, ignore that lol)
or if you'd rather her arms still be crossed, I would suggest relaxing her shoulders and arms (and if you did it like this her boobs wouldn't be squished together since her arms aren't pressing against them)
my edits here are pretty crappy and hastily done, but it should give you an idea of what I'm talking about
I'm sorry if I seem too nitpicky! you really are improving and I think this character is really cute. also don't feel like you can't nitpick back at us! that's what we're here for. every eye helps.
edit - also keep in mind that compared to a lot of people here I barely know what I'm talking about! I've never had any formal training and I didn't even try to do realism until recently so my knowledge of the fundamentals is really lacking. these are all just personal nitpicks
I was like this is good till i realized that the waist is too low. I stopped it. :c
i didnt finish it its a robot/puppeteer thing i was going for i just didnt finish the whole puppeteer part. o:
A lot of my stuff I didnt post because its shit and more shit. Ive been practicing anatomy still and hands in general, followed by lips and eyes. Ive also been workin on those females. Im still pretty terrible at drawing but im practicing. :c
Ive have been working on technique as well though it doesnt show in some pictures.
Lastly I have been working on environments as well sort of a top down view and Ive been experimenting with different angles and different themes I just didnt post any of them cause they are quick, dirty, and a lot of smudges and erase lines. o:
eh, pixeling doesn't feel the right way to go about with this. it feels better as an actual sketch, cause pixeling feels more to me as a small medium (giving the most detail in the smallest ways) and sketching is sorta a broad medium (not really sure how to explain). Like for one, I'm sure quite sure you sketched that first, and then proceeded to pixel it (hey if not then 0.o).
Some parts the lines are too striaght, or sometimes it's nothing but a line- like the armpit parts (particularly the one on her left, it's the most obvious to me). Her chin is line super damn sharp too. And I would love to see lots more shadings everywhere on her.
Hair felt slight bulgy in the back see what im saying i'm critiquing it like a sketch :P
Yeah I kinda pixel'd this on the computer with a mouse. There's no sketch for this ; - ; I just thought that some things would look better in a game form if it were pixeld.
I'll work on the shading more and the chin and curve my lines more.
@Moxie she's a Rat Chick : ) Although she doesn't look anything like any of the characters from Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, Maybe I should give her these kind of ears.
@star: it's mostly p neat looking except those eyes are doing a gangster anime drift. they're nearly on either side of her face, like a deer. her peripheral vision must be incredible!
a mostly easy fix though, esp since it's un-aliased pixel art
anime girls tend to resemble deepwater predatory fish or savanna herbivores with the bulbous wide-set eyes. I hate to reference family guy but I can't help but think of that "Uma Thurman's eye wrangler" joke
also yeah I would recommend revisiting the ears because I didn't get the "cute mouse ears" vibe, just "weird droopy perfectly circular human ears"
