Wow, this game is awesome O_o
It's really original, there aren't a lot of games that are really anything like this. You should work for eyezmaze =]

I had a few problems with it, though.
- 100 resources is A LOT. You need 30k pollen (assuming my person's rush is the only way to get it), and even with 5 maxed-out bushes that takes waaay too long. I have 50 as I write this message, so I need to wait for like 20mins while I gain 15k pollen. Maybe you could have at least one spot where you can only grow flowers, or be able to get rid of bushes so you can use flowers to get that pollen faster?

- Unless it's only there for testing, it should say in the tutorial that you can hit shift to change the amount of pollen you use. I discovered it immediately after I finished maxing all my bushes. Although, I used a mushroom's ability to give out loads of pollen, which basically means if you can grow a single mushroom then manual pollination is unnecessary. Maybe make it so you can only distribute pollen once and that makes the mushroom disappear?

- Completing the garden I did (without the extra 50 resources to complete it) took about 2 hours, if you screw up really bad or have to go, or it errors or something you lose all of that. I don't know how your systems work so I can't say, but is there anything stopping you from allowing you to save in the middle of a garden?

- Turnips are f-king crap. The tutorial says 'grow them in bulk' but if you try to grow, like, 6, it's impossible to keep them all alive. I find it just as easy to grow 3 mushrooms at one time as to grow 3 turnips, the mushrooms just take longer, but you get 10x as much food. Grapes are fine, but make it easier to keep turnips alive so growing larger amounts is easier.

- A glitch I just found, when you trade seeds with the gardener it only takes turnip seeds (If you pick grapes, it takes 50 turnips instead of grapes, and mushrooms takes 5). You can go into negative turnip seeds this way to get unlimited food for free.

I'll give some more crits when I finish the garden and go dungeon crawling =x

The game is really addictive, even though it gets a bit slow at the start when it isn't raining (and you therefore have nothing to do). Uh, I'm no good at praise, only crit =p
It's an awesome game and I really enjoyed it =]

Also, Is v0.7 going to be out soon? Can I just load my 0.6 save file and keep all my progress or will I need to start over?
 
First and foremost, I am glad to see this game get some goddamn recognition. It sure feels nice to have a fan who actually played the game past the first 5 minutes (even my fellow FMD staff member haven't gotten past a garden. This post made me speed up the process with v0.7 a shit ton. I'll try to get it out as soon as possible, and I'm pretty sure you will be able to load your v0.6 saves on there, so I wouldn't worry about it. Now, to your points:

1. Fixed. You now get resources more periodically than normal.
2. Fixed. The mushrooms don't disappear but its more balanced now. Also, mushrooms no longer depend on other mushrooms when distributing pollen.
3. There are reasons, to prevent people from cheating. However, I decided not to be such a fucking stick in the mud, and fixed it to where you can keep all the things you got from the garden if you leave (a new feature in v0.7). However, you will lose all progress in that garden.
4. Fixed. A bit of a bitch to fix, but fixed nonetheless.

Expect to see all these things and more in v0.7! More info to come shortly, and I can't wait to read more posts. Cheers!

ugh, my pc froze so my game went bye-bye. ill totally clock 0.7 when you release it though! and write lots of crit.

Sounds great! Look forward to hearing it. On a side note, one of the reasons v0.7 is taking a bit long to come out is the fact that the 3rd installment to the trilogy, Village, is being worked on similtaneously. Expect to see a tech demo of it near the release of v0.7.

Hey, I have played :P I just have finals, too... :/ I'm def excited about v0.7, I'll probably wait for that to come out and just skip v0.6.

Ooh, what's village gonna be about? Like Village Tycoon? That'd be pretty sweet.
 
The fact that you cannot save the game easily is very irritating.

Even with the improvement for .7 it will be extremely hard for you to start out, because you have to have 2+ REAL HOURS before you can save. Besides in an earlier version you were able to save inside a garden what happened to that feature?
This game is freaking awesome and freaking addictive, but being unable to save makes it not as fun as it should be.

Sorry; I spent already 1 1/2 hours in the game without saving( I don't have a town yet), in my book that is freaking ridiculous, who on earth has 3 uninterrupted hours to play a game before they can save once. The game play is freaking awesome but why do you have to kill it by not allowing to save, seriously why? This flaw literally makes it unplayable. This is easily comparable to playing FF7 and there being only on save point in the entire game.


I'm not trying to be rude, I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to play this game, but in it's current state I can't.
 
I will reveal more on village with the release of v0.7, and I am strongly considering putting a save point in gardens, due to popular demand. However, it will not be on player request, but rather that it autosaves every day at midnight. Anyway, back to work on my Village prototype :P. Cheers!

Saving every day and night would be awesome. 'Cause then, you can essentially just quit whenever you need to, or if there's something really important you can wait....wait, like 12 minutes? :D
 
Something like that, yeah :) Tomorrow I'm going to post a full list of the features coming in v0.7, along with some screenshots, that way I can get some excitement going for v0.7.
 
Well, it's not tomorrow but rather the day after. Fuck me, right? I've been working hard on Village, but not so much on Flower. This is a problem as I would like to completely finish Flower before I had started working on it, but I'm afraid I will not be so enthusiastic on taking such a huge project right after I finish one. Therefore, I have decided to do small pieces of it during the production of Flower, so that way when I am finished with Flower, it won't be such a large undertaking. But, I digress. You don't want to hear excuses for why v0.7 isn't out yet, but rather what it will have. Well kids, heres a list of features:

Its been forever since I updated this thread, and I feel bad for it. I haven't lost sight with the game, but I just wanted to work on it in the summer rather than during school. I will resume development on June 4th, the first day of summer. Again, my apologies for the delay.
 
I must have just dreamed that I announced that Flower v0.7 was coming out saturday at midnight. Hm...well, regardless it is coming out indeed June 13th on midnight, with two brand new dungeons, a new set of units to unlock, a new garden, a bunch of fixes, and some new build spots.
 
I have been so unloyal to my word. Fear not, I will provide you all with a hefty update very soon. As an apologetic gesture, the game will come prepackaged with a save file with quite a few goodies a think you will enjoy!
 
I hate to put a release date on the new version, because I'm so damn unloyal to my word. However, I will try my best to get new screens up by tuesday, and a full release on friday at midnight. Please don't forget to vote for Flower as In Progress Game of the Year 2008-2009. It's the fans that make me want to keep working on this game, and really make it what it is so far.
 
Rise from the dead, Flower thread! (lol@1yearlongnecropost) So anyway, I feel as if i owe an explanation for my recent inactivity (since my introduction thread), and that can be attributed to my playing of demon's souls and getting ready for air force basic training (which takes up nearly my entire day). Even though i've spent the last year playing games instead of working on my own, it is actually a good thing, seeing as my new game (Loot) will be based on my three favorite games right now (Trinity Universe, Disgaea series, and Demon's souls), and will come to my series as the sequel to Flower, just as Flower was a sequel to Animal. Although it's not obvious, once I put a story to the series after I've finished all three games, it will make it more so. Anyway, the next update for Flower will include a demo for Loot and will likely be the last update for Flower ever (before story patch); adding a Final boss and conclusion to the game. Thanks for understanding and also, if you wouldn't mind, may I ask all remaining fans how far they got in the game (like gardens, building, dungeons, etc.)?
 
Of the current version, no. That's gone forever. I'll try and get the final version out as soon as possible, though. Sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe someone else has a copy?
 
Both Flower and the demo for loot are coming along nicely. I'll upload some screenshots soon of the next flower dungeons. (By the way, the demo for loot and the update for flower will be available before the loot thread goes up).
