Flower (Hiatus)

final version is a tad far away from tech demo, unless you mean final systems version
if it's the latter, i'm pretty sure it's waitable.

I guess i shouldnt say tech demo, since the game has progressed farther than that, so I guess i should just say a demo testing out the new features. I agree though, I don't think anyone here cares so much about this game that they can't wait for it to be finished.

In contrast to my previous post, I have updated my first post to match my schedule up until final release. If you are interested, check out notes. If you are interested in the new story, check out summary. Screenshots, however, is still a work in progress since so much has changed since previous versions..

I'm going to post until you like it, forum. Also, since a lot of the game mechanics get thrown in your face at the beginning (and believe me, it really is not comparable to any game you've played before), what would be the best way to introduce it to the player? I don't want to be all like "LOL THIS IS WHAT YOU DO K THX" all in a fucking list.

First look at the new landshard system, but I'm not gonna talk more about it until its more fully developed.

Preview of the agility dungeon. Ill try and get a video up soon, since obviously these pictures don't really do it justice.

A release date has been set for 2/25/11 (next friday). I have also set up a wiki page to mainstream all the information about the game that is important to you, the player. The thread acts as a means to get people to play the game, while the wiki is meant to eventually be a database of information for people playing the game. Thank you for reading, and don't forget to post you fuckers.

Just out of curiosity, would you guys want the garden to be skippable, so you can check out all the new content right off the bat? (just for this demo of course, since the garden is a focal point of the game)

hi,

i don't really know, since i never really played this.
i do think that if the garden is really not interesting to people who already played it, then you could make it skippable
it would be less of a nuisance to people

thanks

Figured I'd update my audience here (if I have any). I've finished the first mob lair for the Skeletal Faction, and once I finish the other two, all I need to do is make some simple tutorials and then you can get your grubby hands on the next version of Flower :D

Also, I'm getting my friend to bug test it all day tomorrow, so you can expect it to be bug free and smooth!

Making the garden skippable would be a great help, you don't want to turn away your current players now do you?

Good luck with this it seems to be going pretty dandy.

Thank you, everyone for the support! I suppose I'll make the garden skippable, even though it is only about 30 minutes long, and is a ton of fun. I'm finishing up the last mob lair right now, and I'll have v0.7 out for everyone to play sometime tomorrow! (probably later in the evening, I still have tutorials to make)

Edit: Oh, also, I watched my buddy play it yesterday all day bug testing (I've fixed all the bugs, mind you) and he clocked in at spending 7.5 hours in order to beat the current version fully (all epic items). That means the final version will have about 9~11 hours of gameplay!

So the version is completed, and I finally got it uploaded, but the forum doesn't like brackets in the filename, apparently. I'm uploading now and will edit this post when it's finished. Thank you for your patience.

Edit: Upload finished. Enjoy this hbgames exclusive!

Forum, I am dissapoint. I finally get a version update out and no one gives a half a shit? Well, either way...I'm working on boss lairs next and I will be uploading a video to the thread to hopefully get some hype going.

It's a shame your project doesn't really get much attention because I always see you doing regular updates and progress reports in here, so I was going to nominate it for the next Let's Play if that's alright with you!

I decided to give this game a try. I've always been curious about how the game played, and unfortunately I was wondering the same thing after playing ten minutes of the first garden. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I don't think the goal of the game is very clearly expressed. After ten to fifteen minutes of pollinating and harvesting I lost interest and gave up.

My biggest suggestion would be to reconsider how you do the tutorial. Try introducing key concepts a little slower, and have the player actually go through the steps. For someone who's never played this before (like myself), throwing everything at the player at once can be pretty confusing. Perhaps you can try a tutorial level where the player actually has to go through the proper actions before moving onto the next step. The way the tutorial is set up now is way too text heavy and too much information to throw at the player all at once. Like I said, perhaps it was just me, but when you throw that much new information in the player's face without reinforcing any of it, the principles of the game tend to leave the player just as quickly as they were introduced.
