Flower (Hiatus)

Ehh, I skipped the long and boring intro/tutorial through naughty ways and went to some desert-floating land and made all the bushes and stuff and had 3 people become zombies. Call me a bona fide idiot, if you will, but didn't continue further and assumed the rest. When I skip the tutorial what should I do next?

Assumed the rest? well see, if you would have payed attention to the tutorial, rather than skipping it, you would have learned that once you finish a garden, you build a house in its spot, and then you use it to work to get build resource, which you then can use to build a variety of buildings, then you use them to prepare yourself to enter dungeons with your newly founded militia, and eventually (not until a couple patches from now), kill Thor and connect the pieces of landmass, and then you can play as a sandbox godsim with the buildings you made until a sequel comes out. I will be releasing v0.61 here soon, which gives you a portal rather than you having to build it, and also fixes a bug where you couldnt untrain party slots from the barracks. Also, muk, when making humans, try to make one at a time, rather than growing them all at once, and even if you fuck up, its easy to remake them...just kill the zombies, get some food back, and try again. Its a rewarding experience when you can start doing dungeons, and I hope you will give it a second shot.

Hey there :D Started playing again, never realised there was actually an epic story O_O (last time I played it failed for me).

One big thing I noticed: In the tutorial, you really ought to make the figures directionally fixed - the cross (on the people section) turned into a half of a sign. :/

ah, thanks for pointing that out tindy :P. I thought i got them all, but ill include that in tonight's fix.

Edit: Uploaded v0.61. Enjoy.

The blue flame near the northern edge of Alpha Sector. Its pretty obvious, but should I put it in the tutorial? Anyway, hope you are enjoying the game and I hope to hear more from you about it. Cheers!

Well, lemme rephrase myself: How do I get off my little island where I'm pollinating in-game to go to the blue flame in the alpha sector? I was doing so well last night, but then it was 1am and I had class in the morning, and....I had to stop without saving. Sad face. ._.

Aw, that sucks :<.
Well, you cannot save in the gardens, so to get out of them you must make some infants, grow them and assign them to resourcers to gain resource, which you need 100 of to get out of the garden, and build a house in its spot. Don't forget to assign some militia though, so you can go explore dungeons :p. It might be a good idea to revisit the people section of the tutorial to see all of the humans' uses. Cheers!

Ok, I FINALLY got a first house built :D! Some things I noted:
1. You have some mapping SNAFUs with the shadows - all of the plant events have opaque shadows.
2. Haha, Yeyinde turned into a girl.
3. It took me almost three hours to accomplish this. I can understand why a save-during-gameplay function might be impossible (with all the events running and such), but some sort of pause feature would be *greatly* appreciated.
4. Knowing beforehand that you're going to need a resourcer (and how many resources are needed to advance) would be great. You give four class types that can be assigned to three people; I almost made them Military, Gardner and Jester before I read your post. Is there a way to advance if someone does that (either on purpose or by accident)?

1. Im sorry....what?
2. :P
3. Pressing escape and bringing up the menu pauses the game.
4. No way, but this is made to prevent cheating, where you could grow 3 military and quit, it would just make farming souls too easy. Simply load your save if you fuck up that bad. I recommend saving a LOT, especially before you go in a garden or after an instance (dungeon).

I hope you are enjoying the game, tindy, and look forward to hearing more from you! Cheers!

1. I'd take a screenshot to illustrate it, but for some strange reason prntscrn automatically brings up the menu :P The shadows aren't seethrough 'cause they're a different color then the rest of the tileset.

3.Ah, ok. It's working now, but yesterday for some reason it brought up an error and closed the window.

I am enjoying the game :) It's addicting, despite my personal issues with it (I think it's a bit drawn out at times, but I have the attention span of a flea.)

EDIT: Ooh, and I just noticed. In the tutorial, it says that once you have 500 resources you leave the garden and it's replaced with a town...while in game once you get *100* resources it's replaced with a town. Slight issue, but still.

Ah, ill be sure to fix that. Thanks for bringing to my attention. Tell me if you beat Landslide, and ill be sure to give you a cookie :p

Urgh.

The game started out just waiting for plants to pollenate. It's not very interesting, but it's neccessary, I understand. Eventually I level up my bushes really high and start growing foood. I get worried I'll run out, so I grow two mushrooms, a grape plant, and five turnips. So when I think I've got a really great stock, I start growing humans. I start one off and I don't leave his sight. It turns out he eats. A lot. I realize I'm going to need more food so I start growing a turnip. But on my way over to the farming area, I accidentally interact with one of the graves.

oshi-

Now I have a baby and a child, and not a lot of food, so I grow one turnip. During the time the turnip is growing I have to shell out 5+ food to the little buggers. The child grows to a teen and the baby to a girl. That's about the time I run out of food.

oshi-

Now I try to grow two turnips at the same time, but that's luck, it's during a rainstorm. Both of them overhydrate despite me dehydrating them as much as is physically possible, and that teenager isn't looking too happy. During the text box for "What would you like to plant here?" he turns to a zombie.

oshi-

The other girl turns to a teenager, and then to a zombie like two seconds after. If I were to continue I'd have to go back to the food growing process so I get annoyed and quit the game. I could go do that food growing again, right? Wrong.
Due to the inconvenience that you can't save in the garden, you have to start from the beginning if you fail the first time. It might be difficult to have saving during some of the event processes of the garden, but it's absolutely neccessary that it be there. I repeat:

Urgh.

My advice is to grow one at a time unless you have a huge stockpile of food ready to go. It's just too hard to micromanage like that. Also, I will be releasing a fix later tonight (v6.2) with a quit option in the garden. This will take you out of the garden, with the souls and military souls you earned in the garden, but with out a town. Again, I apologize for your frustrations, but just take it easy. You are not the master uber mcfuckgamer at this game, nor should you play as so, especially for your first garden. Eventually you will have enough souls stocked up where you can go in a garden, make a gardener and he take care of your food right from the start, but until then:
1. Stock up about 20-30 Food before having a baby.
2. Keep a clear garden. That food mineswell be ready to use. Sitting in the garden, its useless.
3. Grow one kid at a time. It may take a longer amount of time, but its better to have one adult than 2 dead babies.
4. Continue to play. No person is ever good at a game that fast, especially with such a tactical game as this. Keep playing, and discuss on this topic. Its the only way you'll get better, so if you want to explore the dungeons implemented and in development.

Sorry kids, no update yet. I'll try and work on it, but I've been doing serious reworking of the combat system, and upcoming classes for v0.7 (Tier 2, motherfucker). As a way of saying I'm sorry for not releasing v0.62 yesterday, nor today, heres a preview of the new tier 2 classes:

Hope you are excited for v0.7, and make sure to keep checking back for more updates!

I'm going to germany in less than 2 hours, so all production for v0.7 is currently halted. You'll be glad to know, however, that v0.7 will include 2 new dungeons, a better resource system outside of gardens, better building customization, a research system, a better loot system, an easier dungeon system, and of course all the new items that comes with said dungeons! I look forward to seeing some comments when I get back, and hope you can enjoy v0.6 for the time being. Cheers!

As disheartening as it is to come back with absolutely no comments, I'm back from the fatherland, and back to working on Flower v0.7. Stay tuned for more information daily!
