if it turns out that one of the townies was raped by her dad as a kid and then you have to fight him as a metaphorical representation of the amalgamation of his sins/evil and her guilt/loss of innocence in a room which appears to be laden with puckering sphincters, and then afterward she still willingly walks into a fire b/c of her unremitting personal agony

or something to that effect

i will change my tune

p.s. i liked that they ended the 1st chapter with roy orbison

i just want another silent hill 2 ... i wanna be creeped the fuck right out the room

i want to physically go " :blank: uuuueeeggh" and then " :eek:uch: "

:(

man if there were a silent hill game like SH2 but with heavy rain dynamics i'd probably poop my pants

i'm right there with you, silent hill 2 was the crowning gem but 3 and 4 still hit me like a mack truck

4 was objectively a fairly bad game but it was just so damned effective because of how the apartment made you feel safe, only to strip it away among other things

yeah ... tbh almost none of the areas in SH4 were even very creepy except for:

the apartment itself,

the random fridge in the building that has the dead cat in it (that made me sadface),

and that room with the giant eileen-face (it was almost lol-worthy in the fact that you just WEREN'T EXPECTING IT and then you walk in and BAM giant face with screwball eyes and the character doesn't even react--all you can do basically is go "O.O ...... o.... k.... o_o" and walk right back the fuck out

the transformation of the apartment itself though was borderline brilliant. at first it was just quiet and nice ... and sure, you found some rather foreboding, gradually-widening craters in your bathroom, and maybe the front door was chain-bolted, and sure the phone/tv were disconnected ... but otherwise there was nothing really wrong with it.
then, without warning, you see something off. maybe some footprints on the carpet. maybe something bangs on the window. maybe a photo or two have a different face on them. then it just keeps getting worse and worse until naked corpse demons are trying to break through your drywall and you see your zombified-looking self looking back at you through the peephole ;[[[[

seeing eileen in that deteriorating state was rather unsettling too but i managed to save her.

:I now i kind of want to replay it

i was nostalgic so i looked up a list of some things from the game ;o

wow you know this game looks better than alan wake and it's like 6 years later, lol

* Bloody chair - Blood will appear all over Henry's chair, the one beside the window in his living room. (upon examination)

* Slippers - The slippers by Henry's front door will have disappeared, and left bloody footprints leading to the kitchen, where they stay.

* Shadow boy - A shadow of a young boy (possibly the child Walter or Billy Locane) will appear in the closet, point at you and cry.

* Cat in fridge - A "lump of flesh" will meow and move inside of Henry's refrigerator. This is a reference to a woman, who also lived in Henry's apartment, that had her pet cat shot by a man who had a cat allergy and a hobby for guns. She mourned over her dead cat and put its body in her refrigerator.[1]

* Ghost victim - A ghost will come for a visit through your wall. It resembles Jimmy Stone.

* Blood on wall - Blood that resembles cracks or vines will appear on Henry's wall. If Henry stands close to the blood, it will move and pulse.

* Clock - Henry's clock will tick rapidly.

* Windows - Henry's living room windows will rattle up and down.

* Phone - The phone in Henry's bedroom will deliver Joseph Schreiber's voice saying: "I'm always watching you. I'm always WATCHING you. I'm ALWAYS watching you."

* Peephole - Henry's peephole will bleed. Examining it from a distance will allow the player to see a ghost version of Henry with '21121' carved in the front of his neck, and supposedly saying 'Please help me,' but this cannot be heard.

* Sink - The kitchen sink's faucet will pour blood.

* TV - The TV will turn on and deliver static, and it will show, in a flash, the moving picture of a twitching, upside down man[2] (possibly Joseph Schreiber or Andrew DeSalvo).

* Picture - The picture of the Balkan Church in Silent Hill, the one in Henry's bedroom, will turn into a picture of Walter Sullivan.

* Shabby Doll - In the Apartment World, Walter Sullivan will offer Henry an optional item, the "Shabby Doll" that Eileen had given him when she was a little girl. If Henry takes the Shabby Doll and puts it in his box, several crying babies will appear over it. This is completely optional, and is the only haunting that can be avoided before the game's second part.

edit Other notable things
Robbie, pointing menacingly...

* There may be a floating head[3] outside of Henry's living room window. This head appears to be Andrew DeSalvo's. It will briefly fly up and down and disappear when you return from Building World.

* Robbie the Rabbit, the pink rabbit stuffed animal in Eileen's room will move after the player finishes the Hospital World. It now faces Henry's room, pointing at him with blood around its mouth.

* There is a Robbie the Rabbit hot air balloon which can be seen in the sky outside Henry's window sometimes.

* By looking through the peephole, Henry may see Walter Sullivan looking back at him, an alternate Henry or a sentence written in blood: "BETTER CHECK ON YOUR NEIGHBOR SOON!"

* If the player inputs the phone number on the billboard found outside of Henry's window into his phone, ghosts and monsters can be heard making strange noises and sounds in the Otherworld.

oh my god that fucking rabbit - of all the things in silent hill 4, a goddamn pink bunny pointing at me was what made me jump the highest

the eileen face shocked the hell out of me and i'll be honest, the heavy breathing and moaning made me seriously uncomfortable... after you get over the initial shock though, it's hilarious

i'll admit i can be a major weenie, but the first trip through the prison level was terrifying for me - when you jump through the hole and land in the room with the first double head baby thing i had to turn it off for a while. the way it cries and lurches around... UGH. and all the notes from the little kids... ugh. that's probably one of my favorite areas in any silent hill game.

did they give you a tracking number or an ETA?

Nope, Play don't do that, but whenever I've ordered other things from them (They're my primary source for games), they actually come within the 3-5 day bracket, sometimes in only 2.

that's pretty jacked up, i would definitely send them an email or something - maybe try to get a response before you complain or demand a refund

the prison reminded me so much of SH2's Labyrinth which tbh scared the holy living bajeezus out of me more than anything ever simply because there was this corridor you wandered down and it sounded like something enormous was lurking on the ceiling just out of eyeshot. it would stomp, and mutter almost intelligibly. you kept expecting something to swoop down and grab you but nothing did.

just finished silent hill shattered memories. only one left to play is 4
how did you like it? i'm still on the fence b/c people say it was kind of crummy.
did you play 5? it was horseturds in comparison to the rest of the series (why another studio got the franchise for a game is a mystery to me and why that studio figured people'd like that they focused more on battling than atmosphere/etc is just wtf) but the controls were p good for once

SM was OK. The story is completely different from sh1, and there was no mention of why silent hill is such a freaky town. One thing that was amazing though was the lighting, and the monsters got a bit annoying after a while since you couldn't fight them. Besides that, there's real-time changes to the otherworld and its all ice instead of fire and rust.

As for 5, the controls were good except for the camera, and some of the combat. I had trouble with the dodges. Also, nurses in HD! But. again the real-time switch to the otherworld.

Other than that, 2 was the best, 3 was pretty good, and 1 was good but really short (4.5 hours), and origins was kinda crappy. 4 is the only one i haven't played through (although I have it) that's out. I'm really excited for 8 because it is looking really good with the lighting and the atmosphere.

idg why they're calling it 8 ...
i mean
theres
sh1
sh: play novel
sh2 (/sh2:restless dreams)
sh3
sh4 (/the room)
sh: origins
sh: homecoming
sh: the escape
sh: shattered memories

which would make this one #10
two of them must be non-canon and not counted. probably play novel and the escape. play novel only came out in japan for GBA and the escape was a mobile phone app.

aahahjenfxiojefffffff
they fucking pulled the realtime otherworld changes from the goddamned movie like directly.
in 5 otherworld was just kind of industrial which pissed me off too
i know they did the scene-by-scene otherworld changes b/c of graphical limitations in the 1st game and carried it over for the next 3 but it was just so much better to do it that way D:

I liked the idea of Shattered Memories - it was creative and different, and I would rather they try to be more experimental like that as opposed to SH5's "let's lift all of the good stuff from other sources and contribute almost nothing new" (the monsters were still pretty badass though)

the idea of being weaponless and having to flee/hide is awesome. unfortunately the Raw Shocks or whatever weren't that scary and the chases weren't all that tense after the first time... just annoying. :/

I'm pretty curious about how others fared with the "psychological" aspect. I thought it was some gimmicky bullshit until I got the
drunk dad
ending and it hit way too close to home
