And I've finished it.

Final verdict is that it's an absolutely brilliant game oozing with charm, and I LOVE the art style, feel like it'll never feel old, there were times I would just run around looking at stuff and taking pictures... it's even better when you get a paper aeroplane too!

Finished Mass Effect 1. About 18 hours. I did a handful of side-quest. Had to deal with bunch of glitches that forced me to replay entire sections from my last save. Froze on a loading screen. Clipping bugs, got stuck in areas and couldn't move. Poorly defined Death zones. Exited my buggy off a cliff. Just dumb stupid stuff.

On to Mass Effect 2...

Been playing Mortal Kombat X, I waited and bought the XL Edition (GOTY/Complete Edition basically), and only just getting round to playing it now, some of the new characters are meh, others are fun to play with, some of these new fatalities are fucking brilliant lol...

Still going strong in persona 5. I still haven't had a day off to have a 12 hours sesh but I've gotten through the first two chapters and put around 20 hours into it. It feels just like a persona game I think they've done a great job. The story sometimes adds shock without buildup so it can kinda be a lot sometimes. Gameplay is spot on. Still one of my favorite battle systems ever.

And slowing trudging through disgaea 5 on switch. Yooka laylee comes out tomorrow as well. It didn't get very great reviews but I'll probably pick it up.

Yeah
It's pretty easy to access the Nintendo Japanese eshop and you can buy foreign codes and buy software. The game itself already has an english translation (I'm playing in english [with english voice actors]). Why they didn't just release it in the West right away is anyone's guess

I'm sort of two months behind it's release date, but I bought Hollow Knight a few days ago. Am enjoying it quite a lot, despite the difficulty.

No spoilers but some thoughts:
Totally digging the somewhat-Souls inspired vibe. I was initially somewhat critical of the game's hand-drawn art (due to zoomins making it look like the lineart was rather rough) but grew to love the style. Some areas like the City of Tears and Crystal Peak made me realize how pretty the game is. I'm still getting used to it but I also very much like the combat. It's pretty much Dark Souls in a 2D sense...I guess, but charms add a lot of strategy and ideas on playstyle. The music might be my second favorite or something of the game's features. Larkin is a damn good composer. Sure, it's a bit flashy and grand in style, but it fits the tone of the game.

My BF, our mutual friend, and I beat Dark Souls on Sunday. We were pleased and excited. Good game!

It took you almost six years to finish it? Or are you new to the Souls' games?

I've been playing FF14. Oh. My. God. Does this game start so badly. Entirely slow. Everything. All of it. Combat. 2.5 global cooldown, slow acquisition of skills. Story is slow. I usually like FF stories, but I guess since it is a MMO, it has to pile on the exposition as to why you're collecting those 10 bear arses. Some classes are designed badly, like the Thaumauturge / Black Mage. Which is Press 1 until low mana, then press 2 until high mana. Rinse repeat (throw in the occasional proc and the like).

It is a good game (though contrary to what some say) there are a number of unfair elements within, but its good for the most part. If you guys are planning to move onto DS2, expect a very different beast. I would personally say skip it and go to DS3. DS2 is like an awkward middle-child...

Oh that sounds interesting, but how does it control? I jumped onto Salt & Sanctuary; another DS-like 2D game, but I was not a fan of the control scheme, it felt so weird. And I'm someone who usually gets on well with uncomfortable control schemes (love me some tank controls like in early survival horror games).

My friend recently got into ffxiv and I've been trying to play it as well, but god damn early game is a waste of time. Compared to TERA and Gw2, it's a mindless slog. Absolutely terrible.

Also I hate the way it represents things on the map. It's so hard to work out how to get to places sometimes.

No, play DS2 first, you'll appreciate DS3 much more afterwards!
I loved 1 and 3, but I couldn't get past the first area in 2. Everything was so heavy and sluggish.

You're so right Zen. You then got the skills too... They are so unimaginative. Only global cooldown on most skills. There is little synergy or interesting interactions. I'm currently playing a Lancer. These are the skills I use most... =/
  • 120 DMG. 70 Mana.
  • 100 DMG. 60 Mana. Does 200 DMG instead if used immediately after the skill above.
  • 180 DMG. 70 Mana.
  • 100 DMG. 80 Mana. 20% Slow for 12 seconds.
  • 120 DMG. 130 Mana. Ranged.
  • Stun target 3 seconds. 30 sec cooldown.
  • Next Attack Skill Critically Hits. Heals you for the damage done. Cannot exceed 10% of your max HP. 90 seconds cooldown.

I'm nearly halfway through the vanilla leveling process too. At this point in WoW, I'd have fun stuff like gap closers, bleeds, AoE or more crowd control. At this point in GW2 I'd have almost every hotbar slot unlocked, with a vast amount of utility options and the possibility of choosing from a multitude of weapon combinations for my skills 1-5.

Oh, my time with Dark Souls is finished.

Our mutual friend is skipping out on Dark Souls 2, but Star will continue to Dark Souls 2 with another friend. He didn't want me to play with him because I'd have magic. *rolls eyes*

For Dark Souls 3 Star and the mutual friend will be playing, but since we only have 2 Playstation 4s.... XD

You think the start of FFXIV is a mindless slog? Just wait until you get to the pre-Heavensward content -- one hundred fetch quests, straight in a row.

I know Asia is more inclined towards grindy MMOs, but wtf were they thinking?

Wait. What. You're kidding... right? ... Riiight? I will have to talk to my friend about it. I knew there was a lot of quests prior to Heavensward, but I didn't think they would be fetch quests... If I want to play an MMO this grindy, surely I'd just play Black Desert Online...

Fetch quests and grinding are a staple of the MMO genre, I don't mind them to be honest... especially not on Final Fantasy XIV since all the areas have amazing music to listen to while doing them, as do the mounts...

The controls are a bit more fluid than I expected. There's some of the stiffness like old school NES games as expected but the characters seems faster and more flexible in jumps than I expected. The fact you can attack in almost any direction is cool (including downwards if jumping) and I suppose the stiffness I presumed came from difficult platforming sections with/without difficult enemies, which is fair to read off as stiff controls due to the hero's low health and the game's difficulty.

Speaking of MMOs, I recently came back to RuneScape of all things.
