The sketch thread!

you need to move all the your features down
the bridge of the nose goes in between the eyes
chins are actually rather small
the distance between mouth and nose isnt that big

one thing you should not base your anatomy and proportion on is anime
I would consider anime a style and not a type of drawing

Anime is the breakdown of realism
but if you dont have realism you dont have anime
99% of people who draw anime before drawing realism learn terrible habits and draw very generic anime pictures that look just like everyone elses anime pictures
not only that it teaches you terrible proportion habits~

try blocking out your shapes more
it definitely helps breaking down each individual piece of the face

Well I will try to lower the eyes, but I can't lower them too much because I need to leave room for the upper nose (which you can't see now). I don't want to make the eyes smaller either.

I figured if animes could get off with having girls with eyes 25% the size of their heads, I could get away with this. But back to the drawing board I guess.
animes (decent looking ones) DO skew proportions in a decent/non-amateurish way.

they have big eyes, but change the sizes of all the other features to make up for it. so it LOOKS like it's SUPPOSED to be skewed. it's more aesthetically acceptable.

if you go for NORMALCY and then skew only like 1 thing in a way that screams "HEY GUYS I didn't block out this face very well!!! Check it out ya'll!" then yes it looks like you don't have style.

it's not a BAD THING it's a NORMAL THING that people do when they're learning. so just keep practicing and like i said, block shit out!! :D

Yeah, I know, I know. I'm horrible when it comes to realism and anatomy. Even in art class I could never pull it off very well. My teacher always told me to "watch closely" and then draw, but I always tend to just draw what I think looks right. I pretty much grew up drawing DBZ characters.

Anyway, more adjustments. Do the facial features look better now? I pretty much had to recreate the eyes because I cut out parts for the hair and didn't make a backup... Argh. Anyway, please pay no attention to the torso, I'm still working on outlining it.

I've been working on this sketch for a while now. I planned to ink it and paint it, but A: I don't like it and there's waaay too many problems with it to even bother, and B: my trial version of Paint Tool SAI ran out :v

It's based off of this video. It started out well but I worked on it last night when I was tired and fucked it up. Kind of just lost motivation to continue. Again.

One of these days I'm going to finish something 100%. In the meantime I'll go back to drawing subpar cartoons. ONE OF THESE DAYSSS

Reminds me of adventure time for some reason...

So I drew this cause one of my friends asked me to for her story she was writing, I got away from realism for a little bit because I didn't want to just put in realism and have it really ugly....

Oh you guys and your tablets... /sigh

Zchin, it's a good start, but I bet it would look even better if it was so squibbly. XD

Bacon, that's awesome!

More doodles from me!? NO WAI. Yes, a girl again. I just like drawing chicks and I have no doods to draw. ;_;

I really like that one furthest down. Somehow it feels more real/natural to me.
What you should do (now that I see you've got a good style down) is you should try adding action to your poses, and trying other angles.

I guess you really can't call this a sketch anymore but I have a tendency to color the stuff I make.

Anyway, little comparison pic... Left is what I first started out with, right is what I have now... Did I make any improvements at all? Anything about the face that still looks off?

Jason

Awesome Bro

Personally I prefer the face on the left, it has more character, and also, not to sound mean, but those horns look awful and don't seem to be positioned properly... if I were you I'd try to redo them.

RJ: Your horns are not positioned correctly
Also you are not blocking your faces out properly I would read some online tutorials on how to create the basic shapes and skeletal structure~

the eyes, imo, are still really high up

I have a habit of accentuating my bottom lip a bit too much~
pretty terrible and rough fanart oh dear~

Well they both give off different expressions, but I think the one on the right is more correct anatomy wise. I know the horns look awful I can't get them right.

I'll have to start over from scratch some time

maybe one day~
ive never thought of spongebob though
I dont think it would turn out super good though because I rely heavily on curve~
:c

kanayafinalsketch.png

the final sketch I might color it~
the lips are so BLEH~
and it suffers from tiny hand syndrome but i didnt know what to do ;-;

Angle of the wings would be off i think? That line in the middle of the wings? Makes me think of the lines of a leaf, and how the slight angelization of the image makes it a tad different as thus.

Ears seems notable lower than they should be.

Toes sizes are a bit off, like *her* left leg toes <===nitpick

Hands are really rather more dynamic, but a lil issues here and there.

Check eye level/location again. Isn't noticeable at first glance, so not really that much of an issue.

I think some issues her her left arm, the shoulder part?

Honestly other than those things nothing seems apparent at all, and it's actually rather good, especially for you.

Darn, Daxis took all my comments... The only thing that seems wrong, other then what Daxis said, are the eyes being a tiny little itty bit to apart from each other, because you need to fit another eye in between those to measure the space, but it looks like there is too much space.

Okay, so I did a sketch in Math today on my homework... Ignore the directions on the bottom left, and another sketch for my binder cover... I used reference for proportions, but the one with the ton of folds on the sleeve keep bugging me even though I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it....

scan0010wh.jpg

This is the one with the tons of folds that I have a problem with

scan0011oe.jpg

I draw with a slant and didn't bother rotating it in Gale...

@Zchin I REALLY like the first one a lot. It's soooo cool!

Sorry to clog up the sketch thread, but I drew another picture of that fairy from earlier. I did everything but the feet (Star did those).

I have to color one for my solo project. XD
