The last film you saw

Last night I saw God Bless America

Basically, a man's life falls to bits, and all he can do is look around and see how vapid, mean, and juvenile the country has become.
He finds out he's got inoperable brain cancer, so he figures, what the hell, why not take out the trash before he's gone?
At some point, a similarly fed-up-with-the-world teenager joins him.

It was pretty damn funny (in a dark way). Really satisfying ... The guy takes out proxies for much of popular media's worst wastes of human life.
Really liked the main actor too. You can't help but feel for the guy.
The ending is rather weak, but forgivable.

It's a little on the weird side, but worth a watch. So long as you aren't watching it with anyone who's easy to offend.

I'd highly recommend it to non-Americans, so you fucks can see that no, not all Americans are "like that"

really? we're seeing it next weekend. i wasn't sure how to feel about the previews for it. I never considered Loki to be a very important badguy (in the comics, I can't say I remember him as being BAD, just ... mischievous).
And the Skrull? Weren't they badguys for the Fantastic 4? Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about the Skrull (nor do most people i know) which is why I feel they're kind of a bad choice as a main enemy.

Though come to think of it, not a whole lot of the enemies that the Avengers ever faced were too terribly interesting. In Marvel it's always about the good guys ... DC's all about the bad guys. Hm.

Awesome Bro

Seriously Ven, if you're going to see it, make sure it's in IMAX 3D if you can, and honestly it's already jumped into my top 10 films of all time... I'm SO buying it on 3D Bluray when it releases! It's just... brilliant!

I don't want to spoil anything though, I'll just wait till you've seen it so we can talk about it, lol

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

Watched "City Under Siege", a good Kung-Fu film with an interesting plot that incorporates some Sci-Fi elements. Now I just started "The Legend of Drunken Master" with Jackie Chan.

okay saw The Avengers, and hell yeah that was awesome!! :O

the skrull aren't in it, after all. which is fine anyway

where hulk goes after loki, and loki turns as if to give a big badguy speech, but then hulk just grabs the fuck by his legs and RUINS HIS SHIT in 10 seconds.
then loki just lays on the ground and looks as if he's shat his breeches.

ahahahah so good

IMAX, not 3D though. That shit gives me headaches. Plus the only 3D showings were later in the day and we decided to go mid-day on Friday to avoid the crowds.

Aww, I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was fucking incredible!

But yeah, the film as a whole as I said is already in my top 10, and has beaten Captain America as my favourite Marvel film, it really was brilliant and lived up to the hype

avengers had 10/10 entertainment value, but not much else. The plot was almost an excuse plot, and development of plot, philosophical crap, psychological crap, and character crap was hardly explored at all.
That said, acting was awesome, execution was essentially perfect. It was the definitive superhero movie in which you've got explosions, one-liner wittyings, and tits and ass. The most important thing/reason for this movie to be so good was the fact it combined continuity of films (and comics :P) for the first hollywood time ever, and did it *well*.

I sadly went into the theaters expecting more than my expectations of a michael bay/transformers film, but at least I was thoroughly entertained the entirety of the time I was there.

Although the fact that I had friends to snark with really helped the experience - noting DAT ASS every time the screen panned to Scarlett/Romanov's ass. And the villain monologueing. Just pure laughs at his three or four monologues in the movie.

Yeah, I'll gladly leave the plot-heavy comicbook movies to DC (new batman movies, watchmen), and the fun, mostly mindless, blockbuster-type comicbook movies to marvel :D

the more brooding/"thoughtful" movies with marvel chars are usually sort of bad (x-men 2/3, spiderman 3, the john woo version of the hulk)
and the more mindless/"happy" movies with DC chars are usually bad (green lantern, superman was better but still kind of meh)

that's funny, i thought that was total shit.
thor wasn't living up to my expectations, and after that came captain america which i thought was noting more than a good intro followed by awesome explosions.
the avengers was really something though, so they're excused for that.

i had my doubts about the fact that bruce banner wasn't portrayed by edward norton, but in retrospect he wouldn't have fit in anyway.

now i'm really looking forward to the new spiderman movie, the 3rd trailer is out, and it's looking amazing.
there's a bit too much showing in the trailer though, i hate it when they do that

Cabin in the woods.

NOT what I was expecting (I thought it was standard teens get killed by zombies movie). Oh boy, how wrong I was. Most definitely one of the better movies this year. Great mix of tension, acting and humor (script was nice too).

8/10

The killing Unicorn and the "American ware" remark alone would make this at least a 5/10.
