If you stereotype on one work, then you probably have a generalized world view. If you stereotype on all of your works, then you are probably a racist.
huh i never thought about it much like that. I might disagree that you have a generalized world view from one work, seeing as you might have chosen their character for the sake of it fitting into the situation. Just cause i chose a female white mage for some jrpg doesn't mean i think that all white mages should be/are best at 1 rpg, i just randomly decided this white mage should be female (assuming this random choice was not biased by sexism)
doing it constantly might not imply racism, though, as i think it implies more of a generalized world view- for example, you see lots of latinos as devout christians or something, doesn't mean you necesarily discriminate them, you just think that they specialize in that religion a bit more than others, and figured rather than offending latinos by making them atheist or something, you play safe with the stereotype.
In my opinoon, stereotyping and generalization isn't necesarily racism, it's just ignorance. Racism (and similar discriminations) is actual actions and beliefs that a certain race is like such a way, and shoudl continue to be such a way, which is a bit different from generalization.
Then again I do agree heartily that the character didn't contribute much than anyone else could have done (that jelly bread example i felt was considerably a CRAP example). Didn't contribute beyond devil=evil, so repent bitch thing either; i would have liked a deeper insight into the devil's actions as well, maybe mention something about the old myths and not just go back to human being bastards with hope.
then again maybe the next two films might be different but i doubt it
