The last film you saw

Jason

Awesome Bro

Oh god, the advert for PA was hilarious, showing Americans in the cinema all screaming and jumping like fuck, and had a cheesy line, something like the film that scared america, I was like lolwut, so I decided to go and watch it with my mates... none of us jumped or made a noise, infact, I could tell WHEN something was gonna' happen, this something being pretty much nothing, lol.

I don't think the film deserved to do as well as it did, since it seemed SO amateur (Well, it was), as if I could just get my camera out now and make it, but to make it worse, they're milking it... with a seqeul, what the fuck?!

well ummm that's the point
it was made over about 5 weeks with less than $11k by an independent studio, then bought by a larger studio after some buzz over it.
that's $11k including all actor/crew salaries, catering, cameras, location, transportation, and cinema dispersal fees.
which is like, unheard of.
so yeah basically it WAS like you and your friends doing it--except involving paid actors and off-location set pieces.

Saw A Serious Man over the weekend.

Ok this movie. Man this movie.

Alright so it's about a Jewguy living in a more jewish-heavy section of some little baby-boomer development town, in the 70's. Basically his entire life is falling to shit. His kids are ungrateful brats, his wife is leaving him for a man who looks like a potato sack and who coos at him with "adult-minded" pleasantries in the sake of "burying the hatchet". His job keeps threatening him with the possibility (or not) of tenure, while a student blackmails him over grades. His brother is a weirdo who can't seem to find his own place. And all the meanwhile, he looks on with this doe-eyed inability to change anything about his situation. He sadly accepts hurt after hurt, but is changed by it over time.

It's a very smart movie. I read a few reviews and they said it was too depressing and stark to be funny, but I found many parts of it stabbingly irreverent and humorous. It's funny in spite of itself. And it does absolutely nothing cliche--even the ending will leave you questioning the metaphors behind it.

Anyway I can see why it was an academy award nominee. I think The Hurt Locker was probably better in a more rounded way but this was definitely a noteworthy artistic piece.

I've just finished watching Dogma. It's been on TV a lot (It is, after all, Film4 backed), but I've never really been able to get into it or watch it.

I think there is quite an entertaining story in there that's ruined by all the gratuitous swearing. Also Jay and Silent Bob. I know of them - but I've never seen any of their films and quite frankly don't see the appeal.

Alan Rickman was great. The idea that he should be the Voice of God... :biggrin: !

well its the coen brothers what did you expect

After going to MI to visit everyone there, I watched a movie for the first time in like 6 months called Idiocracy. I thought it was pointless and boring. It's supposed to be a comedy, but I dunno - it didn't really make me laugh that much. Then it just ends. :( I learned that it was by Mike Judge, and that explained everything to me. XD I like comedies, but not this one. Not my type of humor, I guess. ^_^;;

Man I watched Boyz n the hood yesterday and it was excellent. I thought it was gonna be an lol darkie film but the acting and plot were really intense and realistic.

i saw cloudy with a chance of meatballs last night
when i heard of it i pictured it as a lame comedy about stuff
but it was animation, by sony.. same as surfs up
now since i enjoyed surfs up, i got interested

so i watched it and i have to say its a pretty good movie
good humor, good animation, good story
everything

i suppose you shouldnt really read the plot before watching the movie,
but thats up to you
there are some fun twists in there ;D

Watched Watchmen and The Boat that Rocked last night.

Watchmen = fantastic, although extremely long. It was brilliant though and I can see why it got all the hype it did. Probably the best superhero film I've seen although I have to be honest, I really don't like superhero films (take this therefore as an exception!).

TBTR was good but it seemed more like a series of sketches tied together with a boat. The ending also sucked major bollocks. It didn't exactly have a storyline... at all. It was just "oh hey we're Radio Caroline under a new, generic name".

@Tomas, I loved Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, it's a really great animated film, but that's a given, since I adore animated films...

@Wyatt, Yaaaaaay Watchmen!
