The First RPG You Played

If Pokemon counts as an RPG then Pokemon Red was definitely my first. Man, I played the hell outta that game. Takes me back to the good ol' days, where all it took to amaze me was a little glitch like getting on top of a roof or messing around with missingno.

Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. It was WAYYYY too hard, holy crap, but still, great memories. Then Earthbound - I didn't like it but i would come back later and love it. Then Chrono trigger - CT was what got me hooked on it.

I'd be an inquisitive 9 or 10 year old that couldn't understamd how turn based battles work and couldn't get past the first real boss, Yakra... and then i was stuck on the dragon tank for a week or two... and then the security system for about a month... but all this time i was playing other people's files near the end of the game (lol renting) and getting my ass kicked by lavos, dicking around in prehistory and the future, only i never, ever understood why 12,000 BC was full of water. It puzzled me to no end.

I spent like the next 6 months determined to play the game up to that point and find out what happened, all the while trying to deduce the mystery. and it was rough. OF course when i finally got there I noticed that 12,000 BC wasn't flooded and zeal and etc and my ten year old mind was blown away.

Does 'Zelda: Link's awakening' (SNES) count as RPG? It has no leveling up system... It seems more an action game as God of War in fact (by overcoming the differences, I know)
If it doesn't then the first RPG I played was an Action RPG: Secret of Mana (SNES too)

Just as I thought XD

Then Secret of Mana was my first RPG game. A cousin of mine and me played it for hours. Even although it was in english and both of as are spanish :haha:

I think my first RPG was either final fantasy 1 (original NES version) or Ultima 4/5 (can't remember which one of the two i played first since i had both). played the shit out of these games and they still serve as inspirations for my current projects.

Well shit, since the consensus is that Pokemon is an RPG...then Blue was my first by a LOOOOONG shot. Damn...oh well, FFIX olds the most supreme and special place in my heart.

My first video game I actually played was an RPG funnily enough, and the most stereotypical.. you guessed it, Final Fantasy VII. I bought it in the old Virgin Megastore along with Tomb Raider and Micro Machines, I didn't like the game at first due to the buttons, but after playing a rented Tekken (1) I became hooked.

Wonder Boy in Monster World for the Sega Mega Drive. Fudging Fun to this day. Loved the blend of raping people and getting exp from it with raping people with swords and killing them.

My first RPG was lufia II

It was much fun untill the stupid erim. I quitted it for half a year and then finished it :D.

Overall a very nice game. (I could understand the game because it came out in dutch :), I couldn't read much english on that age)

The first, and still in my mind best, RPG I ever played was Phantasy Star 4 for the Sega Genesis. I logged over a hundred and twenty hours in that game. It had cutscenes with sprite-like manga/anime style cutscenes, it had a tragic twist at the end of the first act that caused me to cry as it happened, and it spanned 3 different worlds, and was a wonderful close to the series (which I played much later). It's a shame that the terrible Phantasy Star Online/Universe and Portable were ever conceived.

Seriously if you ever get the chance to play the game do so ... Just remember it will probably be cheaper than the SRP that I paid ($100 at time of release).

The first RPG game I ever played was technically Pokemon yellow. But what got me hooked to RPG's was final fantasy 7.
I had a crush on that flower girl, Aries I think, and it broke my heart when Seph game down and put that long blade through her stomach...

The first RPG I ever played was the brilliant Star Ocean: The Second Story. I was about six years old when I played it and always fell in love with the Shingo Forest theme.
