yeah, pretty much that size. Just remove the sword and that's the size. I'm working on an actual character sprite that can be used in RPG:Architect =)

Of course, I don't know if RPG:A will have 8-way sprite standard or not, but I won't be doing an 8-way sprite =P
 
this isn't a bump its and update ;)

I have the basic fighter sprite template almost finished, it's taking a bit of time but its well worth it. I figured I'd let you guys see what I'm working on and what can be done. If you have ideas or suggestions, let me know. The only dumb idea is the one unspoken.
I took the biggest template I could find, stretched it out to the right size, then drew mine over the top to make this template. These are just samples, like I said the actual walking one I'm still working on but it's almost done =)

 
Wow. I really like that size a lot.

If you wouldn't mind a suggestion, change the helmet to be more... Helmet-like. Maybe a plume coming out the top, or a different design. Right now they look like ninja masks.

Also, can you post a nude template? That's what spriters generally work off of.
 
I won't be able to post the nude template till I get home, I don't have it here.

The gray armor suit set is itself a template, made so that people can go in, change a few things to fit what they want their fighter to look like, and save it as their character. I am also making a mage class template to go with this fighter class template.

That's why the helmet is so generically shaped ;)
 
But... It looks like a piece of crap!

No offense of course, but still... Doesn't look too good. I might want an actual helmet, but I can't add stuff myself; I don't have any graphical talent.
 
I remember that nude base, can't remember who made it though. It was posted here in the resources section a long time ago, and someone started a campaign for people to make individual clothing items for it. Don't forget to give credit for it.

Either way, the shading on the armor looks out of place...too smooth and painted compared to it's pixellated edge and the cel-shading of the nude base underneath (as well as the decals). Try recreating the armor in pixel art rather than brushes. It also needs outlines to suit the style of the nude base.

The armor is also very plain, with random bits of the body exposed (such as the elbows). Try and look at some references of real armor, and try to add some detail to make them look at least a little bit interesting.

Also, the armor itself is way too shiny and bright. Try to think more in line with "dull, worn steel" rather than "freshly polished silver".

This google image search provides some nice examples of ways to spruce up the armor and add more detail.

did you guys miss the whole "it's a TEMPLATE" part? it's NOT a finished sprite, just a foundation. It's not supposed to be a work of art, at least not yet...we're dealing with unfinished software here, remember? lol...
 
Yes, but the estimated release date is quite literally a month away... 29 days, in fact (for me in EST time zone), and it's nearly 28 (being only 3 hours away from midnight).

yeh, actually I forgot about that =S

I am fixing the helmet atm. I will fix the template, then do some detailed sprites from it. I saw what you were talking about with the pixellated edges against the smooth armor, and I got an idea to fix that also.

but yeah, thanks for the input, I forgot I asked for it ;)
 
ehhh...no. Though in my opinion, I think he died and went to game designer heaven...but wait, he didn't finish this like he promised, that could mean that he went....oh no....this isn't good....lol
 
okay well I'm not doing anything else until I hear from Theory that he's still working on this project. I don't have time to waste on a dead project.
 
I'm sure he's still working on it. If I remember correctly, a page or two back, somebody said that he was pretty much the only one working on it at the moment. He just doesn't really have time to check up on his thread.

Also, he said he's spent something in the range of what, thousands of dollars on this program so far? I doubt he'd just drop it after doing that.
 
Hi everyone ! I've been googling around and found this thread. I have to say that i'm very excited by the idea of having such a game creation suite!!

I noticed you didn't give any details as to how the audio API will work. What formats will be used? What sample rate will be compatible(Hz)? and what bitrate (if compressed)? Do you have foleys and SFX(as in a bank of sounds)? do you need some? How is it gonna be panned? Stereo? 5.1? What about the OST? Will you use a generic zip file packed full of game mids or do you want a custom one? and if so, .mid? or .mp3? or .ogg? or dare i say .wav? Will your api work with sample markers?

My main trade is music production, and I'd like to compose and create a soundtrack for the RTP. I can make the songs in general midi format or i can even make mp3s(with much higher quality sound) or i can make them in both formats (or any format you need them to be). Thing is i think that a piece of software boasting all of these features deserves a better OST then a base RPGXP/VM soundtrack because they are all too plain, too generic. I'd like to make a colorful OST that would have a lot of musical styles, mainly : 1) The usual medieval orchestral used in almost all of the rpgs 2) A Nobuo Uematsu (FF1-X composer) Rock/Orchestral style 3) A more electro style to fit futuristic backdrops. I'd compose main themes for all the generic situations (much like RMXP/VX rtp OST). Heck, for rentability i could even compose a base RTP OST then make additional theme packs, that could be obtained by the famous marketplace you talk about.

I'll be making a set of tracks to give examples of my work, and will post them as soon as finished. I'll make relatively short tracks (30 seconds to a minute approx) just to show what I do and to know if you think it would make for an official addition to the bundle. I can create music fast, and I'm not scared of the deadline... so if you are interested, game on!

Im the programmer and I havent heard from him either...
 
Does anybody have Theory's email address? He hasn't logged in in nearly a month... Does anybody have any way to contact him other than PM?
 
Sorry kids, but it's time to move along. Theory has a life, and we can't expect him to come running back to this thread every couple days. I'm sure he'll turn up, and when he does he'll respond to your PM's and such. Until them, sit tight - and if you really do need to contact him desperately I'd think someone has his email.
