Just for the record, Rico, you might wanna change the detailed coins so they're not all jagged and stuff. They look nice that way, but if you had them in your pocket or hand, you may be liable to cut yourself.

you mean the texture maps? well if you look at the rendered coin piles, you'll see that the edges actually DID get smoothed out ;)

right, I keep forgetting and wanting to dive in making everything like right now. I'm actually re-working the silver coin, I don't like how it looks so subdued, I want to shine it up a bit.

EDIT: here are the 100 copper and the 10 copper piles:

copper10pile128x128.png

I added a bump map to the models, I got a more realistic looking set of coins:

the full size 100 pile:

the full size 50 pile:

the full size 10 pile:

here's what they look like at the smaller sizes:

128x128

64x64

32x32

whoa! Those are some sweet coin pics Rico!! I love the newer ones that you just put up. The only thing that catches my eye, is that when you get down to the 32x32, the coin pile gets really really dark. It's not a big problem, it's just something that caught my eye....Otherwise, looks amazing!! I can't wait for this to be finished!! It's going to be really awesome!

yeah, I noticed that too...I guess I can bring it into photoshop and adjust the bright/contrast to get it lighter. The only problem is at that point that it's doesn't look the same as the other piles by then. I'll be working tonight on the silver, gold and platinum and see how much I can get done...

EDIT: massive pic updates, WARNING lots of large pics (in spoilers, though)

OK here's a size comparison chart, mostly for Theory:
coppercomparisoncopy.png

And some copper adds, here's the 500 pile:
copper500pilerealistic.png

the 1000 copper pile:
copper1000pilerealistic.png

And on to the silvers, first up the 10 pile:
silver10pilerealistic.png

the 50 silver pile:

100 silver pile:
silver100pilerealistic.png

500 silver pile:

and the 1000 silver pile:

up next, gold. Starting off at 10:

then 50 gold pile:
gold50pilerealistic.png

now 100 gold pile:
gold100pilerealistic.png

and the 500 gold pile:

and then the 1000 gold pile:
gold1000pilerealistic.png

and lastly the platinum...10 platinum pile:

then 50 platinum pile:
platinum50pilerealistic.png

now 100 platinum pile:

the 500 platinum pile:

and...wait for it...THE 1000 PLATINUM PILE!

there they are. Having made all of these from scratch, I'm fairly proud of how they turned out =) I made one fully 3D coin which ended up being 1.2 million polys to make the texture map for the other coins. I then used a bumpmap to get the coin features to look right, and made a shiny material for the reflections. The final coins were about 1200 polys each, so at 1000 it ended up being 1.2 million polys. I won't be able to do a 10,000 coin pile as I can't run 12 million polys realtime on my laptop. I might be able to do a 5,000 coin pile though, I really haven't wanted to try that tho ;)

If you count the coppers a pennies, then using a factor of 100 for each denomination, then silvers would be a dollar, gold pieces would be 100 dollars, and the platinum pieces would be 10,000 dollars. A 1000 pile of platinum pieces would be 10,000,000 dollars!

I like how you reused the same model, for each quantity set (of different denomination), understandably so.

They probably took long enough to get where they were, so you just rotated them a bit to save time. Should be fine though, you're just making a starter kit.

Those look like they took quite a long time in the first place. @_@

yeah, before I sunk a massive amount of time into making 4 separate models, I wanted to make sure this was something that would actually be used. If Theory is okay with using them then I'll make 3 different coins ;)
the full model for the original 3D coin was over a million polys...I wanna know it's gonna be used before I do that 3 more times

Now, don't take this wrong, but I have a few criticisms. First off, your gold coins look green. I don't know what your color settings are, but every monitor and computer I looked at them on displayed them as a very green looking yellow. Push down the green, and increase the red. Gold usually varies from a burnished brassy yellow to an almost scarlet red. (Usually being somewhere in between the color of a golden poppy and brass) Next, you've got to change the settings on reflectivity. Your dark shades are way too dark for reflective metals in a setting like that, and your bright shades are either not bright enough or the light isn't at the right angle, because metal that looks as highly polished as those coins look should have a much brighter and larger reflection on them. Otherwise, I applaud you for all of your hard work. I know, I'm the devil's advocate, but it pays to have someone thinking that way on a project like this.

As for the icons, yes, the actual program icon. I want about 5 of them; Whoever sends me the one I use as the main icon gets a beta copy. The other 4, well, we'll work something out. Maybe a discount. The main one needs to be Architect related, whereas the other 4 just need to be RPG-related in general.

Are you still looking for these? I can work on a few of them for you. What size of Icon would you prefer? The default XP icon size, or something bigger, for like Vista or anything? Also, would you like them sent to you in the Icon Files, or as PNG files? Or both I guess... not a problem haha

Meh, without criticism there'd be no improvement

yeah, I did notice that, was really weird. I went back and looked at em on my laptop and they look much more reddish brown that what's on the website.

true, I think it's a setting in my material I'm using. I need to add more light to those I think.

well, like I said, as soon as I get the word from Theory that he's gonna use these I will make the other 3 coins. I haven't heard anything from him in ahwile, I think he got buried in code again lol

WOW, that's quite an echo! Hey Theory, where you at? I need to know whether I should go ahead with this icon thing or not. I've also got icons for potions, chests, bags, etc waiting to go...

He does this sometimes. He should be back within a couple of days. Until then, just go with what he left us or put everything on hold. Your choice. I've been working on some old pre-Windows XP games like Pharaoh, as well as uploading videos to Youtube. (Not to mention working on my WSSDK. I've just got to get someone to test the lag on my latest script before I finish it up and post it. Note: They have to have 1GB of RAM or less)

ok, it's been a couple of days with still no reply..actually, it's been a week now!! Theory has perished, once again, in the depths of game-designerism. Anyone heard anything from him lately??? At all???

If you must know, he's currently having several issues IRL. I'll leave what gets shared up to him, suffice to say that, because of them, he really doesn't have the time to get on and work on this at the moment.

Ahh, well that really sucks. But at least he's got his priorities straight. I'm still hoping he can get back soon however...

For the love of god, can we please not all flip out everytime Theory doesn't respond to the thread for any period of time? Since it's all pretty much mindlessness, that doesn't contribute at all....

I apologize if I seem to be flipping out. I just like to know what's going on is all...besides, we don't really want another month and a half disappearance of Theory with any word. He's just having problems IRL, and is taking care of those because he's got his priorities straight. I'll just refrain from posting here for the time being, until we get word from Theory...anyways, sorry to be of any bother...

right.

With the amount of work riding on this I'm gonna make sure that, in an industry where the completion percentage of programs/games is right around .01%, I don't do a ton of work that is going to be wasted.

Having said that, Theory has been consistent in communicating with us, much more so than most developers. Which is why when he doesn't communicate it kind of throws people.

And finally, "for the love of god can we PLEASE no flip out every time someone asks where Theory is? It's only natural to wonder when he doesn't say anything for weeks at a time, since it's only curiosity?" Chill mods. :box:

I know it's been awhile. Had a rough couple weeks is all. Development has not paused, rather, just been spending some healthy time on the (re)drawing board. Just hang in there, be patient, and I'll have some updates for you before too long.

Dude, first of all, sorry about the rough couple weeks, I know how that goes and it ain't fun. But, DEFINITELY thank you for dropping a note, it always helps us "impatient" types ;) :smoke:

One of my weaknesses is that I'm not very patient, if things are quiet for too long I start "filling in the blanks" so-to-speak, my imagination has this nasty habit of speaking for others when I don't hear from them

I think it's just that I want this program to work SO BADLY that I get nervous that something's gonna happen and we'll get this "sorry but I couldn't finish this" speech that's SO common in the RMXP/RMVX community...nothing personal against you Theory, you been awesome!!!!!!!1!!1!1!11

That's a lot of ones, Rico!!!!!!!!1!!1!11!!11
'
It will get finished. It's my passion. But it's going to be probably another week or so until I can figure out how to set things up so I can sit down and just work solidly on it.

When that happens, however, expect things to move a bit quicker than before.
