It will get finished. It's my passion. But it's going to be probably another week or so until I can figure out how to set things up so I can sit down and just work solidly on it.

When that happens, however, expect things to move a bit quicker than before.

Well, at least we know we can get back to work on this.

Development has not paused, or slowed down. I honestly expect to have something to show this week. Something, anyway.

Development is going to be privatized for a short while. We'll still release information and screenshots. Open discussion on the project will resume as soon as the framework is ready.

Just don't forget about it, or think it's been cancelled, or I've been gone. I am back, just working more behind the scenes.

Oh no, it certainly hasn't been canceled. We're working on this quite a bit now. It really is coming along quite nicely.

phew. This thread really died for awhile there...I was a little let down by that. Can't wait to see some (any really) results of this project!

I'm working on a mockup of the editor.
Engine still being redesigned, it will just be a mockup. But it will allow you to get a hands-on feel for what the GUI will look/feel like.

Yay @ the deletion of the irrelevant spam post.
As far as updates go, it's in a reorganization thing. Glitchfinder is the other "official" staff member, so any updates from him can be considered official news.

We're rewriting the document from the ground up. It had started development in Lua/C#, which we quickly learned would be an unneccesary increase in difficulty for scripting in. Yeah, it clocks a good few FPS faster than Ruby, but hardly worth the slight difference for losing object orientation.

The mockup editor is on hold as we determine the final function set of the application.

Hopefully I can have more for you shortly.

Can we have an update?
Probably when there's an update to give.

If I understand their current situation they're presently taking, the lack of the previous crew to produce a viable product, the time to re-envision the core of the project so there's a clear specification of what the program needs to do, so the next group/person/people that takes on the job will be more suited for delivery of the product's full feature set.

theory's also got to make a business out of his business, so I believe he's taking some time to ensure that his business does not fail, since it pays his rent. I think once he has some of the extra work he's had piling up cleared out of the way, the project should pick up some steam.

Though it's probably best for either Glitchfinder or theory to say at this point, since they're the lead designers on this project at this point.

Give me fifteen days. The project should take off right around then, if my current plan of action stays true to course, anyhow.

Well, your current plan of action is working on an engine for an overly complex commercial game. It may or may not sell, but it will certainly take a little more than 15 days, based on what I saw of the plans.

@ glitch: lol I meant for the project to gain steam. Not for a completed product. I'll update you on AIM.
@ everyone else: Stay tuned! We'll be back after these short messages.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put in the option to do parallax layers! Like 3 layers (or 4 if we can have one stationary background)

kinda like this:

lol a good point, and don't worry. I actually implemented that for RMXP awhile back. There's no way I'd consider NOT including it. lol brings back memories of constructing my first sky ever with 3D Rad.

Edit: as in, 3D Rad was my first touch of game design, period. Most of us start 2D and go 3D. I started 3D and went 2D. Despite the fact that 3D is more complicated, 2D is just as complex to do it right.

hmm, would be great if anyone of these 'tough' guys that have announced so many game makers based on RPG Maker XP could also finish it, I'm not saying that I don't want you to, but instead working all on your one, you could do it together or release at least a promising demo ;)

I'm just sick of the announcements without any progress that are flying like pop-ups around here, and i guess there may be two possibilites why this happens so often:

1. You want to make the perfect maker... And get buried benath its to-do-list, so that any excitement is lost and you just drop it in some time.
2. You tent to be the underdog for the naive noobs that believe the it's just a fingersnip for the scripting gods like you...
3. You realize that there's no money to make with it and no reputation to gain, so you only do it for yourself... not for those always looking for a better cohabitant ;)

So keep it up and do what you have to do, not what others want you to do, to release at least a more functional maker than the xp, that'll make for the first step and it's attention ;)

Actually, Architect has a commercial plan of action. Theory owns a company that is currently hiring workers to begin work on the program itself. We are currently working on the list of capabilities for the initial release, and deciding what to relegate to a later point in time, when we have a more stable product to release them for. As to deciding what to include based on what the people want, we realize that there is a fine line to walk. We also realize that Enterbrain not only didn't bother to listen to their userbase, but, when they attempted to look as though they were listening, they stunted their product instead. Which means that we have an advantage in the fact that we plan to use the userbase of the project as a source of ideas, as well as a fount of knowledge regarding what people actually want in a game development program.

This was not the first comment of this type I have recieved regarding the project. When it first started, I was faced with messages like this daily.

That said, I appreciate the fact that yours was out of a constructive approach, as versus the several along the lines of "it'll never happen, get over yourself".

There was a map editor demo at one time. Where is it, you ask? In the trash can. Ask around, it was nothing to be proud of. I attempted to go the cheap road. Learned the hard way that isn't an option in this case. So before I shell out for this project in a second run, we're getting the nuts and bolts tightened up on the predev stages. So much so that hopefully our development process should be quick, and for the most part, painless.

Everyone's been patient, and quite supportive of our efforts. And we appreciate that. I can assure you that your support has not gone to waste, and your comments don't fall on deaf ears. While a 100% community-designed project is unpheasable in this nature, we have taken measures to ensure that all questions and comments have been considered, and we are attempting to satisfy each to the maximum extent reasonably possible.

As far as updates go, I don't have anything for you at this time. That said, don't stray too far. Once the fuse is lit, it's going to be one hell of a countdown. As Glitch said, the RTP is already in progress, the engine docs are 85% ready, the editor has already been drafted. We're but a few days away from the homestretch (which will take awhile in and of itself, mind you), putting all the pieces together and making it happen.
