PS3 vs Xbox 360

Oh wow, so no loading screens then, huh? That makes it even more tedious. At least you got to look at a pretty particle effect before each battle. Transitions have always been cool for me. However, I don't care that you can combine your attacks, it's still turn-based, and therefor, tedious. The reason I can put in 150+ hours into Tales games is because they are just simply FUN. There are so many ways to fight, so many interesting characters, and battle systems that just get you HOOKED. And they make it worth it too (Example, in Tales of the Abyss, if you get to the second playthrough, you unlock a whole new set of Mystic Artes and Extensions. Examples:Luke's Radiant Howl going into "Ion", Jade's Indignation, and Tear's Fortune's Ark.) FF has yet to make me want to replay it (Not counting 12).

And 50 bucks isn't a lot coming down from 600. 200 is a lot for a system alone, 550 is still as ridiculous as 600.

Not having to wait to enter a battle makes it tedious? Okaaaaay then... didnt seem to make it tedious in FF12, but whatever. The point is, its supposed to be another FF going in the same direction as FF12, except this time, its going to be an action packed version, rather than just standing still the entire time waiting for your guys to hack and slash! And as far as the actual turn-base goes, I heard the ATB meter, which usually fillers up so that you can attack, is actually what you use to base your attacks on. Like Attack takes 5 points away from it, then magic would take like 20. So on, so forth. Just what i read a while back, not sure if i actually got that information right.

But really, have you SEEN the trailer for FF13? Remember the first one? On the train? Yeah, well part of that movie was actually gameplay. You can tell because you have the classic window at the bottom telling you 'attack, magic, ect ect'. That is what the battles are supposed to get like. To me, that sounds FUN and like I am going to be sitting back kicking some arse in STYLE! FF13 is supposed to take another great turn in the franchize. Oh, and dont you DARE forget FFVersus13. Remember, its battle system is what they are basing Kingdom Hearts 3 battle system on (but in a more realistic style)! Or so, from what i heard. So there's two FF games, incase one actually manages to bore you (though, i cant see how XIII itself is anything like you are painting it to me. Its not like the older ones. I'll repeat, its branching off of FF11, which FF12 branched off of).

And dont forget, Namco may very well be putting more Tales games on the PS3 as well. So if Tales is so precious to you, I'd be careful what you say ^_~ (we never know what'll happen. If they are making all these tales games for the PSP (majority of tales games being on the sony concles too; and I'm not saying they wont make it for other ones! I dont think namco is biased but...) chances are, we'll get some really kick arse Tales games for the PS3 as well.

Oh, and price drops this early on, is GREAT for Sony because it most likely means there'll be more to come! Plus, i only spoke of the 60 gig one going down to 550. You can always get the 500 dollar one. I am guessing BOTH will be hitting a price drop? If so, that'll bring it down to 450, which is only 50 bucks more than the xbox 360. Not too shabby...

I beg to differ, my first PS3 overheated and froze within half an hour of me setting it up. I bought another one within the week, and it kept freezing between tabs (don't know why this is), if you've actually looked at the design of the PS3 interior, it's cooling method is very insufficient.

Sony have since replaced the PS3, and the new one works almost flawlessly.

BP

Yeah, just about any system when its first released (especially when it was a RUSH release), is going to have problems. Its when a system is a year old or whatever, and STILL had those issues, that you really have room to complain. Like the 360 *twitch* a year later model and the thing still has the same scratch my discs to hell problem... *twitch some more*

Don't forget, PS3 had to rush their console out on the market due to not wanting to be a year behind the 360. They were still trying to perfect it, but, couldnt fall anymore behind than they already were. Gotta do what you can to survive! The 360 rushed to the market, solely to scew Sony over. And it had a billion problems itself. Many of the ones released on the first day wouldnt even play unless they were, I think it was, on their side? Something like that. Rush a system, and its going to be glitchy~

Your replacement PS3 is build the exact same way. It's not like they changed the cooling method. It's cooled very well for a console. Heat pipes, man. Heat pipes. You probably weren't ventilating it properly.

The PS3 needed faster loading times because the loading on all their other consoles sucked.
Really? I remember the primary complaint about the XBOX being the load times being longer than the PS2. Load time is largely on the shoulders of the developers. The PSone and PS2 did not have especially sucky load times.
el felixio;200630 said:
The PS3 is incredibly similar to the Xbox 360! I was really surprised. It explains why the waited so long to release the console. So they could open up the 360 and steal most of it's interiors.
Bullshit. The RSX and Cell processor have been in development for the PS3 for a hell of a long time, and the system's specs were announced before the 360's.
el felixio;200630 said:
The PS3 is the most unoriginal console to date. The only new thing is it's blue-ray, which is needed to speed up the PS3's processing speed.
What is wrong with people in this topic? How is this even slightly founded in reality? What original things does the 360 do? Hell, what's so original about the Wii? A controller? Wow. Guess what, that's one thing!

The PS3, in addition to having Blu-ray, which is a revolutationary technology btw, also has the Cell processor which is one of the most powerful CPUs out there, and can also be wired together for unprecedented parrallel processing. They are building some of the worlds most powerful supercomputers with cell processors!

PS3 has web browser, Xbox 360 doesn't. The idea of a web browser for PS3 started after Wii opera was announced :-/
(Have you heard that they're having some kind of person simulator? Just like the Wii Miis!)
The PS3 web browser has been, almost certainly, part of the design from very early on - likely long before the name of the Wii was even announced. It's based on the PSPs browser which far outdates the Wii. There is absolutely no grounds to claim the browser was ripped off.

And the Playstation HOME is not a rip-off of Miis. It's more a rip-off of second life, really. Miis are bizarre looking, low-def toys used for little more than WiiTennis, while HOME is an interactive online community. Huge difference.

360 is much better. It isn't losing so much money like the PS3, and Microsoft haven't fired their lead designer or cut unit shipment amounts. Now PS3 lovers will argue back saying: It's because Sony made it cheaper than what it's worth! They only did that to gain sales, and managed to lose customers because the price was still pretty high.
Microsoft DID cut shipment amounts. Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Furthermore, they promoted the designer, not fire him. As far as your last comment, that's absolutely laughable. You think the 360 was only worth the money they charged for it? You think they turned a profit on every console sold? Think again. Of course, they only did sell it for less to increase sales, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with the original xbox being garbage.

Stop being such twats and admit that the PS3 is failing. Silly fan-boys.
The PS3 is the fastest selling Sony console to date. It isn't failing by any measure.

As has been stated, Sony made Spiderman 3, and can do whatever they want with the font.

I was watching an advert for some racing game, I was thinking: The graphics are awful, must be for the Wii. At the end of the advert it said: Playstation 3 and I was laughing for about 10 minutes before playing Wii sports.
Oh yeah? What game? I call bullshit.

(GTA is no-longer a Play Station special, it's coming out on Xbox as RockStars main campaign.)
Coming out on xbox as rockstar's main campaign? I don't even know what this means, but I'm pretty sure at this point it's false. Never mind the fact that the developers of GTAIV have stated that the XBOX360 is the limiting factor in making the game.

Wow man, just wow. You just blew me away. I don't think anything in your post was even remotely factual. You can't get away with that stuff here. Don't try again, please.

The PS3's hardware was done, it was the software that wasn't quite finished.

Yeah, my dad was wondering why the PS3 was always frozen when he went to gamestop. And the guy told us there that its because they keep them boxed up in little spaces so that no one can get to them. And because of the way the PS3 is set up, on the cooling process, if you dont give the thing air, its going to freeze. So I was also thinking that guy must have had it in an area in which it couldnt breathe >.> or something.

Oh, I see. Well, still, not bad for a rush job =D

Never seen any of the Spiderman films made by SONY pictures then? :thumb:

There's been reports of a house fire being started by paper on top of a PS3. I'll try and find the article.

Also, If I hear this bollocks one more time I might just shoot myself in the face, more people probably die from getting hit on the head by falling Xbox 360's than combusting PS3's

Also...

I second that notion for Bullshit.

I really don't care which system is more powerful or expensive or whatnot. I'm a Final Fantasy collector, and FF has stayed with Sony for a very long time, and will most likely continue to stay with Sony.

Unless all of the following games are coming out for the 360:
1. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII.
2. Silent Hill 5.
3. Assassin's Creed.
4. Kingdom Hearts 3.
5. Soul Calibur 4.

... Then I'm sticking with the PS3. Besides, I hate the 360 for personal reasons (Halo's completely possessed my friend, Nick, and he doesn't even call anymore).

According to Wikipedia:

On March 15, 2007, SCE and Stanford University announced that the Folding@home project would be expanded to the PS3.[116] Along with thousands of PCs already joined over the Internet, PS3 owners are able to lend the computing power of their game systems to the study of improper protein folding and associated diseases (such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, cystic fibrosis and several forms of cancer). The software was included as part of the 1.6 firmware update (March 22, 2007), and can be set to run manually or automatically when the PS3 is idle through the Cross Media Bar. The processed information is then sent back to project's central servers over the Internet. Processing power from PS3 users is greatly contributing to the Folding@home project, and PS3s have overtaken all other participating operating systems in teraflops contributed.[117][118] As of April 23, 2007, more than 250,000 PS3 owners have allowed the Folding@home software to be run on their systems, averaging over 400 teraflops and peaking at over 700. By comparison, the world's most powerful supercomputer, Blue Gene has a peak performance of 280.6 teraflops.

Just a little fun fact: The PS3 is actually comparatively faster than the world's most powerful super computer.

Uhhhhh... like I've stated a few pages back, Assassin's Creed is coming out for the 360 as well.
Also, there are no real plans for another Silent Hill game, you just made that one up. Same thing for Soul Calibur 4. As far as you know, those could very well come out for the 360.

And if you're staying with the PS3 because of Final Fantasy, remember that Final Fantasy XI came out for the 360 too. Final Fantasy XIV could very well end up on the 360 or the Wii, you just never know.

Sorry bustersword777, but for me the drive reading speed is not that big though.
PS3 can load whatever it needs before you play and have no problems. (geeez >_> does that really matter? I mean what matters for me is the ability of the console to impress me but yeah bustersword, it can be vital because it may result to long loading times) I stand corrected. Ahahahaha

You do know that some companies produce demo versions of the unpolished versions of the game to promote hype, right?

The reason it probably looked shotty is because it hadn't been touched up/completed, yet.

The PS3 is far better than the 360. It's processing power blows it out of the water.

And the price issue is simple. How much did you pay for your computer? Most people probably spent at least $600 on their computer for a BASIC model. My computer cost me probably about $1500 - $2000 (parted together, myself) so I could run games like Oblivion and Half-Life. And that is what the PS3 is. It is a gaming computer.

$600 (actually $550) isn't too bad for what you are getting. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Umm, I don't know how you missed this, but the only real thing that Formula One game has going for it is that it's almost photo-realistic.

I have the demo for that thing. I mean, it sucks, but the Wii wouldn't be able to even render the track :P

About the bullshit thing: it's true, why the hell would someone lie about sweeing an advert? I think it's this game: http://uk.videogames.games.yahoo.com/ps3/previews/formula-one-championship-edition-d5cd69.html
I remember it being Formula one, but I really can't remember it's name. The advert was around when the PS3 first arrived at the UK.
PlayStation should change their controller design. It's old.

Why should they change a controller design that is already perfect...? Are you insane? If a controller works, why change it?! And besides, they did change it a bit. Like the R2 and L2 buttons are now triggers. But really, who changes something GOOD? Why fix what isnt broken? I say, the playsations controller is one of the best. The GameCube's being the only rival to it (which is why i was pissed the hell off when i saw the Wii wasnt keeping it!!). At least it isnt crap like the 360s.

I hate the PS3 controller, personally. I, for one, love Dual Shock. That, and the triggers feel really awkward on the PS3 controller.
And what the hell is wrong with the 360 controller? It's much more comfortable than the PS3 controller, imo.

Hehe, the 360 has precisely one more good game than PS3 right now IMO.

Dead Rising 2 will be worth the entire console anyway if it has co-op.

I was kinda refering to the PS controller in general. I dont like the idea of the triggers. If anything should be changed, it should be BACK to the Dual Shock. But he commented on it should be changed because its 'old'. Its old because its good, I think.

And I dont think the 360's controller is comfortable at all. It always gives my hand cramps when i play on it, compared to the PS2 or Gamecube's controllers.

Then you have small hands. I can use the XBOX 360 controllers just fine.

Honestly, the 360 offers more right now, but we shouldn't judge this til the PS3 has some time to get onto it's feet.

Edit:Btw, FFXIII isn't a PS3 exclusive, so you can't use that as an excuse.
