ambient occlusion is a lot lighter than you'd think. I think you already know how terribly budget my laptop is, but I had it going with Tronic a while back and it didn't freeze up any more than usual.
 
Yeah, actually, my GPU for the most part handles minecraft fine, but the CPU has some trouble. I end up turning the graphics down to buy more time for the CPU lol.

Actually, I'm pretty sure mine is impossible in the default generation. I'm using the Biomes mod for Hey0, which can do all sorts of neat stuff. That reminds me, DeM0nFiRe, you should check it out if you want more interesting terrain. Anyway, if you want the settings that generated that island, I can give you my ini file after you try out that mod.

A cool map like that is something that I'd enjoy setting to peaceful and just building an amazing island fortress. I'd also like to generate maps that are like "Here's an entrance to a fully-connected cave system that spans the entire world. Go for it!"

Those who are brave enough to make it to the Overworld will find a high plane that reaches the game's height limit. You can't build here, nothing can spawn here, and all of the trees in the neighboring valleys will have their tops cut at this exact point. You can still build and mess around in the lower valleys. Also there's a mob spawner if you follow the zombie moans when you make it to the top of the waterfall, and a chest with the rare and famous pig saddle nearby.
 
So, I went exploring in my seascape, and all I can say is, the map generator was fucking with me. This island took me literally two hours to explore as far as I did, and the only reason I ported back to where I was instead of continuing is because my alarm went off and I realized that I had just unintentionally stayed up to sunrise. Also, based on that island's geography, it could easily go a lot further than I've seen so far.

Here are some caps I took while exploring. First, I wanted to get the game to spawn lightstone, since I was in a server and the nether was unavailable, so I set the generator to substitute lightstone for gravel (however, it doesn't always do this, leading to an odd mix of chunks with only gravel versus chunks with lightstone.) However, this resulted in the occasional lightstone beach, which I thought was pretty cool.

Next is a natural needle that goes all the way from the bottom of the ocean to the height limit for the game, all in a single chunk. (Which, if I remember correctly, is 8x8 blocks) It may be a bit difficult to see, since I took the image at night, but it's actually pretty cool.

And finally, I have my favorite island so far. I made certain that the map had sully loaded before I took this screen, just to make cure that it really was a free floating cliff island of doom. If I turn to the right, you would see the clifs of the large island I was exploring, but this guy is just sitting there, no way to get to the top without digging up through its core.

Also, this is a cap of some other settings I had tried. Seeing this makes me think of some massive limestone beds riddled with caves. Too bad the geology isn't quite right for that. (If it were right, there would be large, extended horizontal galleries interspersed with the occasional vertical connection caused by a collapse or old cracks in the rock from before the caves began to form.)
