Minecraft: post what's in your mine

it was the online only version. and most multiplayer ones you can set your home as well.

the sad thing about minecraft is that you NEVER need to travel a great distance from your spawn point (unless of course you spawn on a huge beach, in which case just go in one direction until you find dirt/trees), you can immediately start mining right near your spawn point because its the same thing everywhere.. once you've seen one mountain, you've seen them all. there's no true incentive to actually go exploring atm.

also, but if you keep in the back of your mind what direction you went from the spawn point, your compass can still always help you back home.

You know, I don't have this problem. I built right next to my spawn point, which means that I can easily find my way back. That being said, you have two alternatives. First is a spawn point editor, which technically qualifies as cheating. Second is to build a little house over your spawn point, and then build a "road" that leads you back to your starting location. (Or, alternatively, build the "road" to your spawn point, and then build the house over it)

Also, we have nothing on the creeper.

This is what I do and it works out great. If your house or base or whatnot is an extremely long distance from your spawn point, mine carts are always an option. Or just a quick hop through the Nether.

Oh my, so I downloaded the Eldpack and I've got to say, it makes the game and enemies look beautiful :
I still think Painterly Pack is much more beautiful.

I had a look at it, and it didn't really swing with me. Also I took Glitch's advice and made a large beacon at my spawn point, and put little beacons that lead to my house, it turns out they're not that far away from each other, but still a distance to get lost, lol. And I don't even know how to get into the Nether lol, isn't it the thing where one step in the nether is sixteen steps in the real world or something? That'd be terrible, I'd forget that and get lost lol.

Yeah but I have to be able to see them from a distance, so I raised them on beacons lol, since there's dunes and hills and stuff between my house and spawn point, I want to be able to see each of them from the other location (See spawn from house, house from spawn).

So, I've decided to share some screens of my house and the surrounding area. I freely admit that a good number of the ideas here are stolen and/or modified from Peri's designs, since her stuff was that awesome.

First off, we have my house. I'll divide the screens by floor, since there are a lot of them.

House01.png

So, this is a view of the entrance of my house, with a little sofa and some windows next to it.
House02.png

Turning about 90 degrees to the left, you see a large, right angle couch facing a bookshelf, which is in front of an entrance to my mines.
House03.png

Facing the sofa from in front of the bookshelf, you can see past it into my kitchen.
House04.png

Looking at the counter and chairs along the side of my kitchen. You can also see what I've knocked together as a sort of fridge and dishwasher on the other side.
House05.png

Facing a bit more to the right, you see another window and the shrubbery I've used as decoration, as well as my path to the next floor.

House06.png

This floor has two rooms, the first of which is a library/study. Here, you can see some of my bookshelves, and a window to let in the light.
House07.png

Turning to the right, you can see my desk and record player.
House08.png

This one is taken facing the entrance to the second room, which I guess qualifies as a bathroom. (Although it's missing the wrong half, if this were real life!)
House09.png

Now this one's so obviously based on Peri's designs. I can't help it, I liked it so much. It's a tub, obviously.
House10.png

This one, however, is my own. It's a shower. Unlike in the real world, you can actually drown in this shower.
House11.png

A view of the rest of the bathroom from inside the shower.

House12.png

So, this floor is the master bedroom. This one's the bed, another obvious ripoff from Peri's designs, though I would like to say I improved it.
House13.png

Facing a bit to the left, you have another bit of shrubbery that I've planted into my house.
House14.png

The second half of this floor is a deck, with a roaring fire to keep you warm on those cold minecraftian nights. (Plus, it keeps the mobs from spawning! Oh, and it's surrounded by some nice seating, so you can rest your aching feet after a long day toiling in the mines.
House15.png

A view from the deck. I plan to level that mountain to the left, and build a large park there instead.

House16.png

The next floor is a guest bedroom. Oddly enough, you have to travel through the master bedroom to get to it, so that means no sneaking in and out at night.
House17.png

The guest bath. Another strange thing about this house is that the master bedroom has a bathroom on the floor below it, but the guest bedroom has a bathroom on the same floor.

House18.png

This is the roof, as it currently is. I'm not really sure what to do with it, though I guess I could plant some trees or something.

House19.png

So, this is the entrance to the attached greenhouse, which is a bridge from the second story of my house.
House20.png

A look inside the greenhouse itself. Normally, there would be friendly mobs here, but I apparently set the server not to spawn them. Also, note the extra thick trees. I grew them from saplings, believe it or not.
House21.png

A look up from the other side of my greenhouse. The roof is exactly one block taller than the maximum height of a tree in Minecraft.

All right, next up is my farm, which is very near to the house. If you're wondering about the orange on the minimap, it's because I gave the farm a lava roof. Quite a bit of effort, considering the fact I did it on a whim.

Farm01.png

The first floor is my tree farm, which I use when I'm running low on wood.
Farm02.png

The second floor is my wheat farm, which allows me to make massive quantities of bread. Note that the tilled dirt extends two blocks to either side of two troughs of water, allowing for the maximum spread of the most saturated dirt.
Farm03.png

This may look like a swimming pool, but it is actually a fishing pond. Due to the unique qualities of the world of Minecraft, this pool will always be fully stocked with fish.
Farm04.png

The final floor is my reed farm, which allowed me to make all of those bookshelves you saw earlier.

Next up is a rather empty building I made mostly to get rid of some cobblestone.

EmptyBuilding01.png

Here's a view inside one of the floors of the building. As you can see, it's very empty.
EmptyBuilding02.png

This is a view from the top of the building, looking out over the world.
EmptyBuilding03.png

Looking at the roof itself, you see three large trees and a fountain in the center.
EmptyBuilding05.png

And here is a nighttime view of part of the developed area of my server. If you're wondering about the pyramid, it happened after I opped one of my friends at college.

Finally, I have some pics I took while messing around with the Biome Terrain Mod, trying to get certain types of landscape.

EPIC.png

This one is actually on another world that I've worked on a bit, though I'm reserving this island for special development down the line.
Floater.png

This is an example of some interesting things you can do with the mod while still retaining a fairly usable map.
OceanMountains.png

This is one of my favorite scenes that I saw when I was messing around with the mod. It's such a beautiful picture, despite the limited graphics.

Very impressive. You obviously put a lot of work into all of this! It's fun to see how people improvise with the limited blocks to make something like a full-blown house with bedrooms and all. And the exterior looks great, too!

Candle, that keep is hella cool. What do you have on the inside, anything? My SSP constructions tend to be fairly modest in size because I like to do ornate interiors.

Nice place, Glitch! The terrain is really cool. I wish there were a mod for nicer trees like you have there, but I haven't found any. And yeah, I did build the farm, but it was a "let's fill this space up so this area looks more developed" thing because there was no health at the time and therefore wheat was useless. As for the layout, farm squares behaved really weirdly and annoyingly at that time, so the farmland isn't as dense as it could've been. I actually wanted as little farm as possible so I wouldn't have to keep fucking replanting it constantly. And the layout was torch farm water farm torch, not farm water farm water, just so you know. Although speaking of efficiency, I might see if I can develop some kind of wheat harvesting machine to make it easier

I'll see if I can get pictures of some more stuff I built.

Ah, the inestimable Peri returns! Yeah, wheat farms are annoying because walking on the wheat destroys it. Oh, and the pine trees are generated as part of the biome trees from the biome terrain mod, which is currently nonfunctional. I use an outdated copy of SMP with an automator to generate large maps with the settings.

Hey Glitch I notice you have a minimap... how can I get me one of those?

You can get it as part of this mod set. Follow the instructions to install, and make sure that better light, better grass, and the minimap options are all checked before you patch.

Also, theory and I have been working on a "forgotten" desert temple. The problem is, theory hit a cave, so now we have to convert the cave into a temple.

Oh, yeah, the interior is almost completely detailed. The rooms in the top level, where the battlements are are empty, an the library isn't done yet, but I've got furniture in there, and everything. i never really understood the whole giant furniture thing, though. wooden stairs with blank signs on the sides make excellent chairs and couches.

Here's a look in on my very first mineshaft directly below the entrance:

A look out on the floor of my original base station:

Same room with a different angle (the opposite side behind the stairs has 3 furnaces):
javaw%202010-12-28%2016-10-19-78.png

The stairs under the painting lead to a room with my only nethergate on the right, and my incinerator on the left. There's is also a hallway down there that leads to my second mineshaft:

Here's a night-time view from the first observation room above the entrance:

the second observ. room showing the stairs that lead up to the Tranquil Fall and the main Keep:

in the Tranquil Fall catwalk, looking up at the main Keep:
javaw%202010-12-28%2016-12-02-37.png

The Grand Gallery as seen from the entrance. In the center is a 1/6 scale model of a lighthouse i plan to build eventually, and behind it is a tree i planted in a small park area:
javaw%202010-12-28%2016-12-16-35.png

the Great Library takes up the three levels below the Grand Gallery, though only the middle level is fully stocked right now. below the Library (which stops at sea level) is the Oldstone Quarry as well as mining-shafts 3, 4, and 5:
javaw%202010-12-28%2015-56-56-91.png

the wheat farm and bamboo farm have separate buildings that connect via the top level of the library. the wheat farm has a simple dome ceiling. while the bamboo farm has several domes and a staircase leading up to battlements and an enclosed staircase from there to the second level of the Grand Gallery. the bamboo farm also has its own book printing room off to the side and above the main floor:

my final photo for the day is of the mess hall on the third level of the Grand Gallery (which also contains my office on the other side). this room is houses my main workbench and several large chests in the kitchen as well as a forge (a 3x3x4 room with 12 separate furnaces in a 2x2 pattern on 3 walls). it took me forever to figure out what to do with this room:
javaw%202010-12-28%2017-31-36-59.png

You know, I need to find something to use my empty building for. I think I'll turn it into a library. Also, I'm planning to connect all of the main buildings in my city together using skywalks, so I never have to go outside.

A note for those of you who have staircases down into your mines. Mobs, if they can spawn anywhere in your mines, can make it to your houses. However, with current game logic, mobs cannot climb ladders. In other words, make the final leg of the trip to the surface in a ladder, to preserve your house for when torches start burning out.

Wait... torches actually burn out? Why has this never happened to me o.O
At least all of your current torches will be converted to lanterns when the patch happens.
