You actually expect this to work? For one, I'm totally laughing at the word "ccoa-mentality".

But on a more serious note, regardless of how much you like your 'posting style' and confronting people is sometimes the best way, in this case it is not. In fact during the first few sentences most of the people you were trying to reach with this, hell the topic title, will have put them in an auto-ignore-everything-which-may-potentially-make-sense-mode. Their general opinion about the staff is only confirmed by the 'style', "you're all dicks and shouldn't have stolen the forum, we were better off when we had the ccoa-mentality." And I'm surprised that, besides iceplosion, who on a siden-note hasn't been the best example of an awesomely respected member when it comes to credit and common courtesty himself in general, the amount of posts personally attacking you are virtually non-existant. Because if I'm reading this, it strikes me moreso a troll/rant than beating sense into people.

Unless someone who read this will confirm he/she has seen the light and will completely change their behaviour because of the topic, I think we can confirm this hasn't really worked.

I have to agree with some of the points in here about how to convey a message to the members at large. I've already said I agree with most of the content of the first post. However, were I a member who was doing some of these things that are mentioned and I saw that, it's highly unlikely I would have changed my ways, even if I agreed. The whole trolling tone of the thing would have produced a reaction like this - "That's probably true...but fuck that guy. Nobody talks to me like that." It makes people want to go against what you've said simply to spite you...even if they agree!

I realize by now that I have to end any critique of Des's way of communicating with a clear caveat that NO, I am not trying to change his personality, NO, I am not bowing before the altar of ccoa, and NO, I am not a prude with an aversion to cursing or whatever. Now that that's out of the way, perhaps there's a chance for some introspection and humility, things which have been in short supply on rmxp.org lately.

First of all, I find it hard to take a post like that seriously.  All the grammar mistakes say to me, "This person didn't take the time to think this through," and it makes it seem that you're just spamming your random thoughts.  Maybe it's just my obsession with proper grammar, but I think it would have better if you did some important things, like capitalizing somewhere besides areas you're trying to stress.

i used to think the same way too but as i study the english language more and more grammar means less and less to me. you might get it when you get a bit older but im very much a STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS person and i believe this typing style is SO MUCH MORE PERSONAL AND has such a greater impact than the regular stuff.

I don't want the staff to be drones, but it would be nice if their personal feelings for someone doesn't decide whether or not that person is banned, warned, or yelled at.

we're on the same page then. our staff members are not bias in their decisions as moderators. this is what lots of peopple with this "ccoa mentality" dont get. its possible to be a horrible and mean PERSON but still be responsible with power. i've never once banned anyone just because i dont like them, even though i joke about it all the time.

Just edit your posts instead of double/triple/etc. posting or think for a second before posting a one-word response.  The staff should be restricted by the rules just like everyone else because the rules exist for a reason.  The rules are created to maintain a decent environment, not limit your activity, so it's not like you would be chaining yourself or anything.

another place where you're a bit misinformed. i'm not a total faggot about doubleposting or one-word responses. if someone non-0staff does it with a REASON FOR IT (other than like HEY HEY BUMP MY GAMETOPIC) then they're not going to get yelled at. i cant remember the last time i sent a warning for doubleposting. the standards that we hold the staff and members to are very much the same. a lot of people just DONT GET IT though

For example, you used "fuck" 13 times in the first post, when a calmer explanation would have had the same effect.  Cursing constantly is discouraged among members, and it should be the same with the staff.

I'm gonna answer these bias on my on my own opinion and numbered by each of the quotes.

1. I almost feel that this "ccoa-Mentality" (which i find funny as well) to be something given off by most forums other than RMXP.org. I've been to multiple types of forums ranging from game forums, rpg making forums, and more. I've always noticed that the moderators have opinions, but they always state them in a format that is quite obvious and not so blatant as seen on RMXP. As well I've always noticed they do moderating business in the shadows, sometimes you may never even see a post about why moderating was done, which in a way is an effective manner, RMXP moderators and staff speak their opinions more widely and I have nothing against that. So maybe people see how we act and think it is odd, even though you do the same thing any other site does just more openly and often.

2. It has nothing to do with your post style or that you choose to talk like that. I just don't trust you period. Hell I don't trust a lot of people I meet, so don't take it personally. I'll never truly trust anyone unless they earn it.

3. If I recall it has been stated in an announcement in the past. This is merely a voiced opinion. And even if it was an announcement, he could type like that if he wanted to, as he said he is in-charge and it isn't some kind of job interview.

4. I laughed when I saw the topic for the first time coming home yesterday, I knew it would be some sort of rant :P

You started a sentence with the words "fuck it". Now I don't see anything wrong with swearing, but you shouldn't start a sentence with "fuck it" if you want people to listen to you and take you seriously.

If you want your game to actually be critiqued (though a lot of you seem to just want your prepubescent dicks stroked) this kind of crap is just getting in the way. Why don't you try and actually explain the features instead of just listing them? And do some of the work yourselves instead of just copy and pasting others work, it's not difficult and will look a hell of a lot more origional.

I'm getting off topic here, the biggest problem with the credit shit is those who are like "HAY HAY COME ON YOU HAVE TO CREDIT SEHPIROTHGOKU1992 FOR USING THE SPRITE IN THAT SCREENSHOT" and they say this in the screenshot thread, or a project thread, or whatever. Hey, don't get me wrong I'm all for proper credit, in fact I think plagiarism is the worst offence ever, and here it's an automatic ban. But some of you take the credit-hounting way too far and don't even wait until the game is finished. I mean, back in the day we never creditted except for like a .txt file included in the game zip, and really that's enough. There's no reason for the game credits to be twice as long as the storyline section of your project thread.

This is seriously annoyinh. Back when Ccoa and Erk rules this place with their iron fists this was unqeitten but scrictly followed code: moderators existed to serve the forums and were not allowed to share their opinions, ever. It should be obvious that there;s a problem here, but just in case you're an idiot, I'm going to post it anyway.

Mods here are just members, and every mod here is willingly and freely doing this job. Most of the time we origionally came here for the same reason you did. Just by giving a member power doesn't mean we should take away their right to express opinions! This, IMO, is the single biggest flaw of the past RMXP.org. As soon as a member became a mod, he would just sink away into the background and would disappear as an active poster. It should be the opposite! Mods should be among the most active posters on the site. They should have opinions and personalities, and they should be recognisable members.

I mean, there's been a pretty good turn around with this lately, and I love the current mod team, so good job on that one guys. But a lot of people still get mad, "OH GOD THIS GUY SAID A BAD WORD AND HES A MODERATORS??????" This is a sentiment that is left over from the Ccoa mentality, and it needs to stop.

This is a big one, and personally I find it extremely insulting to everything we have done with this forum. This is a place for amateur game developers, not little nine year olds.

If there's anything here that is sensitive for a child, well sucks for them, because they shouldn't be here in the firsty place. When you join up it clearly says you must be older than 13. (I actually thing it should be like 15 or 16, but we;d lise all of our members because the Ccoa mentality has turned this place into a fucking preschool).

So if you;re a little kid you are welcome here, but you aren't allowed to bitch about content being too harsh, or whatever. "OH GOD SOMEONE MADE A DICK JOKE THAT'S SENSITIVE FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD EARS." Well, too bad, grow up or stop being 8 years old and there won't be a problem!

you're getting there but that's too much caps at once. you need to learn to break it up. more lowercase between CAPS PHRASES not whole sentences.

That was a lot of reading to do, entertaining nonetheless.

While I seriously doubt that Des' rant will have any effect on anyone's behavior, I'm certain it did him good to get it off his chest.

Even though Des does seem rather, ahem, passionate, about what he wrote, I don't think it annoys him as much as he says, neither has it gone as bad as he puts it.

The crediting has come as something natural after a while, I don't think it should stop. Of course, the noobs shouldn't try and sell their games with only a scripts' list, but if you made the graphics and scripts they're using, I think you'd like a little recognition. Plus, it stops them from saying they made the art from Starcraft they're using. You simply have to keep from going crazy with it, simply instruct the members to "put in the name of those who did the artwork or scripts in a text file or in the ending credits. Just the names, we don't have to know specifically which sprite they made" or something to that effect.

The very strong anti-piracy stance that has been reinforced during the, how can I put this, olden days, is being now used to gain points with the staff, as I suspect it always has been. I, too, find it incredibly annoying, but I take comfort in knowing that it should die down once people realise they won't be made mods for phoning the FBI if they suspect someone is using Postality's knight rmxp.

For some members, the mods are the mommies and daddies they can go cry to when someone says mean things about them in the schoolyard. And it's certainly reassuring to know that mommy and daddy won't take the bully's side or say "well, he was right, you are a dick". That being said, mommy and daddy have opinions like any normal person. There's just a time to be mommy and daddy and a time to a person. So wipe the crybaby's nose when he's crying for a good reason, but tell him he's a dick if he leaves his room in the, er... project's discussion... I really can't take that analogy any further, can't I?

And "won't someone please think of the children"... Are you living under a rock? Kids have already heard far worse at age 8 than anything Despain could post on a drunken night.

One last thing before I go, about the fifth topic that's made its way into the discussion. Despain's the administrator, so we can't do anything about his posting style. Maybe it's off-putting to you, or offensive, or unprofessional, but there is a smart person under all the fags and fucks (now there's an image). Granted, not very endearing at first, but probably capable of keeping all the thirteen year olds who cream themselves at the word "fuck" in check. So, until you can wrestle the site from him, deal with it.

Well seeing as in pretty much every book I've ever read, words are emphasised like this, and since I've always learned CAPS to represent SHOUTING, I'd say neither, rather italics are there for that reason.
