Looking pretty decent, and the mapping isn't too bad.

To be honest, I think that if you get enough detail in there, you won't need a MASSIVE map, I mean, I actually prefer smaller maps if there's enough to do, like if every object can be interacted with etc.

I say for every hub you have for something to do, you should have 3 filler maps to make the world seem larger (just maps for grinding, or skills). While I love that every map you have there has a house in it (which I'm assuming means there is something to do), there needs to be more uncivilized world for the player to explore. Maybe a cave north of the foothills leading to wilderness? Just a thought.

Also, a question for the battles

I know it's turn based, however, will it be random encounters, or will the enemies roam the map and respawn say, 30 seconds after you've killed them?

Yeah that's a good idea, especially giving each enemy type a different respawn time, lol. Have you decided on any respawn times? And how will battles initiate? Is it on player touch, or do we have to run up to them and press a button to start the fight?

There are three "hate" levels if you like:

1. Will walk around peacefully until the player attacks (enter)
2. Will attack when the player walks into them (player touch)
3. Will chase the player (move route: follow player; player touch)

Respawn times are usually around 10 seconds due to the small size of the maps.

Will these hate levels change based on level, or will they be static throughout the game?

Like on Runescape (You're familiar with it), an enemy with a red level will chase you, but when you get higher level, they'll become more passive towards you, will it work like that on Vengeance, or as said, will a certain enemy just hold a grudge on you forever?

I have a thing like that being implemented in my game, it makes it really fun. Also, you could make that, like in Metin2, theres a "boss" in each zone. Not boss per say like any other game, but a mob that spawn with a couple of other otrong mobs that attack you on sight.
Suppuse, in a zone full of bears, the "boss" could be called "grizzly bear"

Dont you want to add fatigue system? You cant travel very much, sometimes you will need to rest in the inn to regain your energy and to run more faster? Just an idea.

I've noticed that the #1 thing that draws me to an mmo is a thriving economy (runescape, EVE online, wow (not quite as much as the other two)), so maybe instead of having a megafuckton of skills like runescape and wow do, just have 2 or 3 but make them so robust and different, that an economy does build over time, because everyone is working on said skills (in fact, I wouldn't even mind if a game was solely economy, no combat).

Following Necrile's advice, I am going to expand the boundaries between the areas shoving filler maps inbetween.

The Inquisition campaign will wait - I'll work on that when the game's actually released.

Sorry, double posting because this is important:

Paying Members

Assuming the cost will be a $10 one-time fee for life, who would be interested in paying this to get full access to Vengeance?

I need to know so that I can start working out what I need to provide and what I need to make way for in terms of server caps and so on.

The game will become available to free players once 4-9 people have paid, as that will hopefully cover 6-12 months of hosting for one game server.

Benefits of being a Temple Knight (a paying member):

  • Access to more of the game world
  • Approx. 3x the updates of normal members
  • Priority access at peak times if (big if) server caps need to come into usage (unlikely)
  • A hug

From at least the first ten payers, all proceeds will go towards hosting Vengeance.

After that the money will be split four ways: most of it towards hosting Vengeance, server upgrades, paying any artists or scripters needed in the future. Some will go to HBGames, some will go to my pocket as so far I am severely in the red, and I would like to donate some to the Pakistan appeals. I don't know how likely it is that more than ten will pay however!

After a significant amount of hosting is paid for, I will consider offering HBGames sponsors a reduced price (whatever the contribution to HBGames made from sales would be) though don't consider this a definite.

Edit: added a poll; seems logical.

I would probably pay for the full version anyway just because I like the idea of supporting community projects and whatnot, but if you're implementing crafting/trading and lots of different areas to explore, color me interested.

sorry if this has already been answered but I'm an mmo dummy: can you team up with other players? if so, how does it work with the turn-based system?

Woah this thread has turned dodgey, everything is black with white text, like all the posts and stuff... what the fuck is this shit?

But yeah that aside, I'd definitely pay if you add some money making skills and a trading system, and I'd even pay extra if, somewhere down the line, you could make some sort of auction house system, I've found that they work really well in MMO's, especially on WoW anyway.

Trading is definately something any MMO needs, purely to create a game economy.

As far as teaming up goes I plan to at some point have a second battle system - probably an ABS - for team battles and such. The trouble is trying to balance everything so that both systems offer equal difficulty and rewards.

I was bored.

I can do this.
