Same reason your sig is pretty fucked; I thought it would look cool.

Current To-do List

  • Trading (bloody confusing)
  • Global Shops (easy)
  • Sim PvP (easy)
  • Levelling, skills, how are they going to work?
  • Remove redundant scripts (SDK, etc) and remake non-homemade ones (UMS)
  • Finish mapping Tiben

Update (lol, update, more... downdate?)

Removed the SDK completely.

Oh. Vengeance. Hum.

Yeah sorry I'll work on this again in a bit. I do this a lot - power through a load of stuff then get really annoyed by a system such as trading and go on a tantrum throwing things around and don't touch it for days.

Trading do have some subtle difficulties, but don't let that drag you don't too much.
Hopefully you can come back with a fresh mind and figure it out :3

Awesome Bro

Or you can forget trading for the time being and work on other things, get the game playable first, y'know with a beta or something, then you can worry about trading later, maybe you could get people to help you with it?

Yeah that's probably the best idea.

I have a lot going on this weekend (back to Uni) but next week is free so I might be able to work on it more then.

Oh by the way, which template is actually being used for the characters? I'm actually gonna' do a Jbrist sprite for you, he's got to be based in every town, and will heal you and cure ailments for a fee... sound like a good character?

Because if it's well made, it's worth to pay a few dollars for it. I don't care with what engine a game is made, i'll pay for it if it's fun and i won't pay it if it sucks, even if it's a ps3 game. Truth is most rmxp games aren't worth paying for, but a few of them are, and this can be one of those.

it always seems silly and generalizing to say "why would you buy an RPG maker game"

90% of them are terrible, it's true, but RPG Maker is just the engine. if a game has the right amount of effort put in, it'll be completely different from any other RPG Maker game. it's like saying "man Unity games sure do suck" or "Unreal? heh not worth it."

(those examples are a bit retarded and hyperbolish since they're vastly different from game makers in scope and scale but you still see my point)

Why RPG Maker? You've obviously got a decent amount of skill to be able to hack the engine apart enough to handle a server-client system, so why not create something from scratch? It would give you a hell of a lot more control over things.

Sorry about this guys, I really let you down.

Once University is settled down I will finish this. It doesn't need much to get it online (though obviously the content makes the game). A basic shell will be online in a few weeks, if all goes well.

I am not sure how to handle trading, it will come to me eventually.

Now for questions...

Why pay for an RPG maker made game? :S

Why pay for a game which will cost money to host the servers for, has a lot of hours of my time put into it, is pushing to be different, and is hopefully going to be fun, you're right.

I have been making this game since 2006. Why has it never been released? In probably late 2007 I realised RPG Maker wasn't the best way to go, and spent the next three years trying to code my own system from scratch. It was painful and time consuming and in the end I got nowhere because one or two simple things were taking forever to do.

Hence I gave in and am now making this in RPG Maker. I'd rather have a fun game out there than a funner game never being released.

Really? I've always found it much easier to just create my own systems from scratch than try and hack away at an existing product to make it do something it's not designed to do. Each to their own, I guess.

Of course, writing your own system isn't going to necessarily affect the quality of the finished product, I just personally think it's much more comforting to have full knowledge of the entire system rather than working with pre-programmed engines.

Looking forward to how you'll handle the lack of mouse support for the game. I imagine it's going to play a large part in the balancing of the content.

I only really know Ruby (hence I'm taking a games programming course to learn the real stuff). It was trying to make a game from scratch in Ruby that was proving difficult.

Maybe when I've learnt C++ this year I'll make a game from scratch; until then my knowledge is just Ruby.
