There's nothing worse than working on a big project and getting no attention for all of the effort you're putting into it. I'd rather have someone tell me that what I'm doing is horrible and offer suggestions for improvement than to just have it sit alone in the corner.

Items...

Made the javascript to change a box on mouseover the icons, need to do the php and sql behind it.

Need to add several attributes;

Item: (id, cost, name, description, canbuy?, cansell?, canuse?)

Currently it's just

Item: (id, cost) -- which leaves it open for URL manipulation amongst other things.

Will work on this later.


If an item can be used it will just link to action.php?useitem=1

And that will trigger an appropriate function with authentication.



Icons

Equippable items will now have a red icon, usable items will have a green icon, and key items or non usable items will have a grey icon.
 
the hover function doesn't work D:
i mean that i go onto my inventory i have soup, a sword and something else but when i try too see it just says testing over function for ages

The rest of Tiben is under construction, sorry; but I see what you mean about the next - it seems to be a problem between w's and n's. That is just normal Verdana though, as far as I know; but I'll try and fix it.
 
You now see a results page whenever you buy or obtain an item, telling you the item you obtained and giving you a link to where you came from.

I hope you don't mind but I have edited posts above as I've completed those suggestions.

After the NPCs give you the shift (they all like doing that it seems, especially the mayor) you should replace "Click to continue" with the << back to etc. option. Otherwise you end up having to click to continue at which point the back to option comes up, and the Click to continue stays at the bottom of the box broken and useless.

Also, "Shop for Tat"..?

Plus, an option to organize your inventory by item type and always have the sidebar with World Map, Settings, etc. on the left side of the screen? You could also include character stats and gold in that space below Total members.

Tat is slang around here for cheap, but overall useless or cruddy goods.

The click here text is just shoved on the end, I'll try and work something out though. Eventually.

The way I constructed the inventory system doesn't make this very easy but I'll have a try.
 
Updates

- New area
Straupuft is a market town that borders the desert. It will serve eventually as the hub for desert quests and such.

There are some themes afoot there, I'm sure you'll spot them.


- New shop, three new items
Pot, garlic, and tattered robes. They don't do anything yet but will set you back 15 gold for the set.


- New faces
A bunch of new faces to choose from bringing the total to 40.


Items

Fun facts:
- There are 29 item instances in the game
- These are made up of 13 different items
- The member with the most items is Tomas
- To buy every item in the game once will cost you 324 gold, more than any player has at the moment
- The most expensive item is the Swordfish, the second most expensive is Salmon, neither of which are currently owned
- There is 1,760 gold in the game at the moment shared between 32 people

my biggest qualm with the interface right now is that navigating backwards from a dead end is sort of tough. the only real option if you're playing it in a window (and therefore don't have a back button) is to send yourself back to the main menu. seems like a pretty petty thing to complain about, though.
 
Switches are now done but actually implementing them is proving a difficult thing to work out. I'll work on it though!

I hope to have the first quest out tonight. While just a test quest, I hope it will be at least a bit fun.
 
Ok, had a Eureka! moment and this is how it is going to work:

A new database table called areas where each area can have a row set for it, optionally, with two optional attributes:

- check_switch
- set_switch

Every time you view an area, if it has a check_switch assigned, it checks to make sure that switch is set before showing you the area.

If it has a set_switch assigned, then it sets that switch after the area is viewed.

An NPC is just an area, technically speaking.

That is how quests and such will be built. I'll work on this system now.

Warning!:

Various NPCs, shop items, faces, and other things will be appearing over the course of today. They might be broken or lead to dead ends. None will harm your character, but you may find they don't help you much either.

They are placeholders while I finish coding some quest functions which are missing. Sorry I probably should add mod-only flags to them but I'm lazy.
 
If you waste 10 gold on the "give the druid 10 gold" don't worry, it will remember you have paid this even if event switches are wiped (as they probably will be).
