TestQuest

The first quest is... well, shit.

But it is near enough done. You can access a new secret area that you couldn't access before.

I can tell if you've accessed this new area, therefore, the first person to visit it legitimately (through the quest) will

win 50 gold

added straight to the account that found the area.



I am not giving any hints but feel free to post them yourself. I can say that some old NPCs now serve a purpose.

Made it. Found quite a few bugs.

There should be switches that go on after you talk to the first NPC and then after you talk to the second NPC so you don't go through ALL of their dialog again.
After paying the 10 gold, I get kicked back to the world map with no confirmation which I found very confusing.
the 10_GOLD... item is visible in my inventory.
At the end of the druid dialog, clicking to go back loops the conversation.
There were 2-3 conversations I had where the dialog "testing" showed up.

I still think you should be able to access your inventory from a sidebar. You could have a bunch of images as a sidebar on the left like a map, a backpack, etc. You should also be able to get back to the world map from anywhere, which could be done by updating the sidebar replacing the button to get to whatever screen you're already on with a button taking you to the world map. Or you could just put WORLD MAP and INVENTORY on that top bar...

My thought was people might want to read them again if they miss a hint or a clue. I'm not sure. I've probably got some switches in the wrong places somewhere.

That's bad, since I added those as if they turned up then something's gone wrong. I'll have to test the system a bit more. I don't know how I missed those.

In all this quest was thrown together pretty quickly to test and create the quest-making systems. In it's creation I've added a lot of functionality to the game that I can use elsewhere - checking for required items, switch systems, conditional branches within NPCs, etc. While it might not be a good quest, it's been a success :D

While it is just a quick quest, I would still appreciate thoughts on how the quest itself went. Did you like it? Did you find it boring? Was it tiresome and lame?

Note: the quest isn't actually finished, and there will be new areas and new items coming soon.

It was a standard fetch quest, nothing too engaging. And when I said put switches after the initial conversations I meant something like:

Pre-switch
NPC: The other day I was walking down the road and I saw A and thought to myself that B would be pretty good to C.

Post-switch
NPC: Have you gotten around to C-ing B yet?

Sorry, I missed your post.

Fixed the first error.

Sorting inventories isn't possible at this moment but I will work on it at some point, if I have time.

Ooh eck, dunno what happened to the fish; must have saved over a file. Fixed.

Fishing icon was just a placeholder sorry. I'll do something with it eventually!

Current thought is that it will give you exp to raise your hit points.



Tomas's items: I'll count them next time I'm in the items database :p. It's probably changed now anyway haha.




Done some more work on the landing area at the end of the first quest. The quest doesn't have an end yet, but you can walk around the new Dark Forest area, and visit the Vampire Clan, where there is a shop. It is glitchy but you won't lose any gold. There are errors in this new area, sorry about that. They will be sorted out shortly.

My bad. I'll have to look into it tonight when I have time. I use firefox, so broken images just don't display at all for me.

I'll have a think. Larger icons would mean more space taken up, but smaller items is... small.
 
I will replace "gold" with "net worth" in signatures, and add inventory to player profiles, to be fair on those who buy lots of items.


Four new items; to own every item in the game (17) so far will cost you 659 gold.

Sorry, it looks like the file and db servers had trouble connecting, it happens once in a while. It should be fine after a refresh. Sorry for any inconvenience.
