Which is the best Final Fantasy Game?

Marcus said:
I have the original 2001 release I've never heard of the dark aeons. I don't know if you mean those bug sisters or not so refresh my memory if I just happened to miss them or something.

You can fight the Dark Aeons in various places after fulfilling certain criteria at the end of the game. Basically, there's summoners scattered throughout Spira that you can approach to engage in a Dark Aeon battle. Once you defeat them, it unlocks Penance, a super-boss you can fight. From what I hear, Penance is EASILY the hardest boss in any FF game, period.

If you have the NTSC version of the game, you're unable to fight them. You need either the International version or the PAL version. Possibly the Canadian version, I really need to talk to my friend about that.

I thought that was where you got the ultimate weapons. I didn't know you could also fight dark aeons. What do they give you for beating them?
I dont remember. I think the "prize" is being able to fight them. They're not that hard, though. The arena's a lot harder.

Penace is just some random boss who you can face when all of the Dark Aeons have been beaten. He appears as a selection on the Airship, and if you choose him, you have to fight THE hardest boss in FFX.

When you beat him, there is no story afterwards, he just blows up, and you appear back on the airship with no story events, you can't choose to fight him again, and its never mentioned again. Kinda lame really, but it is a REALLY good fight.

Again, like the Dark Aeons, you need the PAL version of the game to get to him, seeing as you need to beat the DA to fight him anyway....

My favorite was Final Fantasy VI, or Final Fantasy III in America for the Super Nintendo. I loved the characters, because each one had a background, and they all shared some reason as to why they wanted to destroy Kefka. I also loved his laugh. It was weird, but funny.

This list does not include FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFV, FFX-2, or any of the other side FFs (Tatics, Adventure, etc.)

1.) Final Fantasy VI - Great gameplay (Esper system can't be beat), Awesome graphics (for it's time), Incredible Story and Characters. A must play for any RPG fan.

2.) Final Fantasy IX - It's tough to rank this one second and if I could have ties, it would be right up there with VI. Many people didn't like going back to the "old-school" FF style. I welcomed it with open arms.

3.) Final Fantasy X - As much as I hated many of the characters (Yuna was especially annoying), the story and overall feel of the game made me like this more than any of the other games on the list. And while many people bad mouth it, I love Blitzball.

4.) Final Fantasy VIII - Underrated. This game has one of the best soundtracks in video game history, a great love story, and a good gameplay system (GFs, I liked them anyway). The one problem I have (a lot of people have) is that the last Disc felt rushed.

5.) Final Fantasy IV - People love this game...I felt it was okay. I couldn't get into the story much. I also didn't like how when one character leaves, another conveniently takes his place. It destroys the flow of the game.

6.) Final Fantasy VII - This game does not deserve the praise it gets. It's a good game, but not the end all-be all of RPGs. Far from it. The story is confusing, the graphics are terrible (even by early PS1 standards), and the characters are stereotypical and one dimensional. It has a few saving graces, that being it's great gameplay, awesome soundtrack, and good villains (the few characters I liked). But it is by no means the perfect game. 7 out of 10 tops.

I have two favorites.

FFIX- 9/10.

This game was poorly underrated. My friend had gotten this game and gave it to me because it was 'too childish.' Behind the 'young-love-crush' and the dolly looking characters, this game had one of the best if not the greatest story in the FF series. The characters are more than the stereotypical 'loner hero (in too many RPGs, sadly.)' and the other cookie cutter characters. (though I have to admit, I was dissapointed at Garnet being a princess.)

The AP system was excellent because it strove me to look for more accessories and armor to equip and get skills- it took me forever to get all the character's skills maxed. (Ark was fucking awesome.) and the Mognet sidequest was long but interesting.

The villain was also an interesting chump. Although he looked feminine. (don't bitch about this.), he had another motive after he discovered he wasn't immortal- if I can't live, no one else can. So he set out to destroy existance in order to escape his despair.

FFVIII- 9.5/10.

No complaints here. Awesome soundtrack, great battle/stats system, and great story. Although the battles got repetitive.

I've started playing FFVI more. It's moved up by 1 on my "Best FF game ever" stats. I forgot how great the characters where, the storyline really was amazing....And well.....I saw the dialoge before the final fight again, it truly is legendary.

Adventure

Adventure is part of the Seiken Densetsu series and is not a Final Fantasy game.

This list does not include FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFV, FFX-2, or any of the other side FFs (Tatics, Adventure, etc.)

How are FF1-3, FF5, and FFX-2 side FFs? They are some of the best ones. FF1 and FF3 were awesome, FF2 had a very unique levelling system but it made levelling into a grind similar to modern day MMORPGs, FFV had the best job system and revolutionized the importance of the job system in future FF games, and FFX-2 is the only FF game worth a damn because its actually something new an innovative.

Tactics and Tactics Advance I can understand being side games, but they still hold most of the Final Fantasy traits, but I don't think anyone here is including them (since I haven't heard FFT being mentioned much) simply because they are TRPGs which play entirely different from RPGs

And Final Fantasy Adventure is Seiken Densetsu (game in series before Secret of Mana [Seiken Densetsu 2]) and Final Fantasy Legends is the first game in the SaGa series.

Well, you should play them more. Like Prexus said, they are some of the best ones. Especially FFV and FFIII, those two are great. FFV isnt the best, but the class system was good, even if it was taken from FFIII.

No worries on III, one it comes out for the DS I'll play it.:D

A friend of mine is playing V and she isn't liking it too much. She loves the job system, but everything else in the game stinks.

Then again, I've learned a long time ago to make an opinion for myself. I'll try it eventually, when I have the money and can find it lol.

1) Final Fantasy 7- Brilliant game, even if it is 'overrated' it's still by far the best lol

2) Final Fantasy 8- Would have been number 1 if it wasn't for the weird confusing ending and the stupid magic drawing. (but we can blame the ending making no sense on the english translation team, trust me I met them, and they are mad.)

3) Final Fantasy 10- Brilliant game. Tidus isn't annoying at all, I think seeing as all the crap he's been through he should actually whine a little more lol. (you know, the whole being 1000 years in the future, eaten by sin.... twice, Lost with no friends and so on)

4) Final Fantasy 6- really good game, A few to many characters for it's own good but still alot of fun.

5) Final Fantasy 5- The ablility to change jobs was pretty cool (Never played 3 so :P)

6) Final Fantasy 4- Pretty fun, a bit to old for my liking but it was fun.

7) Final fantasy 9- Annoying characters, annoying story, annoying homosexual bad guy. The only thing that stops this game being very bottom was Vivi.

8) Final fantasy 2- Bleh

9) Final Fantasy 1- Awful game, I wasn't around for when it first came out but I heard even then it was considered to be rubbish. Stupidly unfair battles, way to long to level up, and a complete lack of story has meant I can't be fucked to finish this crap. ':|

FFIX = The Best i have ever played... truly amazing
FFVIII= My first one, i realy like the story and the characters,
the rest don't call my attention..

FF1, Need I say anything? It had NO storyline, the characters didn't talk, and it bored me.
Please PLAY FF before you say anything about it? No storyline? Yes there was, the storyline was damn amazing compared to Dragon Quest or any other RPG at that time. I love how people really compare this game to the newer FFs. Everyone knows the game is old.

Final Fantasy VII feels almost shitty to me, thanks to the "OMG BEST GAME EVAR!!!11" fanboys.

Final Fantasy Tactics is the best FF ever. The plot, the characters (as Marcus said, Delita's the best FF villain ever), almost everything is enjoyable in this game.

If I'd have to pick one from the "official" FF-line, I'd say Final Fantasy VI. Simply, one of the best games ever.

I've completed both the original and the Dawn of Souls version, since I've played it, I guess I can talk about it, right?

When I say no storyline, I mean no twists, stuff like that. I know every game needs to have a storyline, and all that I have played do. Yes, it had storyline, but it was VERY little. Besides, we can have our own opinions, right?

Yeah, the DS version of it looks really good, and suprisingly like the original.

And about FFV, where is she up to? The game is a load of crap until a certain point, with hardly any storyline and stuff like that. It does get better. The only bad thing about it really are the characters, they really suck.

7) Final fantasy 9- Annoying characters, annoying story, annoying homosexual bad guy. The only thing that stops this game being very bottom was Vivi.

Now tell me, did you get past disk 2?

Kuja accomplished more than any villain (aside from Kefka) in FF history (out of the games I played mind you). He brainwashed a queen and caused countries to go to war and then once he was done with that, he killed her and focused on the Eidolons, capturing Bahamut on the scene.

Fast forward a bit, he finds out from Garland that he will die soon, so what does he do? He destroys Terra and spreads Mist throughout the World of Gaia, attempting to take the world out with him ("If I'm not allowed to live, why should the rest of the world be?" not an exact quote, but you get the picture). Looks aside, that is an awesome villain.

Oh and Kefka looked like a clown, just throwing that out there. :P

And I can tell from the post you can't be any older than 18 (EDIT: Nevermind, checked his age, I feel old now lol), as you don't really care for anything "old school". Anything before Final Fantasy VII is inferior, or in this case, any story not with the FFVII style is inferior.

And I hate when people refer to Kuja as a "homosexual". He hits on Garnet for crying out loud. Plus, dressing that way doesn't make him a homosexual. Crossdresser? Maybe. But not a homosexual.

Not sure, she told me she stopped playing when one of the character just got up and left the planet (a la Poochie). I find this funny because it's the same way I felt with FFIV, and she loves that game.

FF1 was pretty awful, FOR THE TIME EVEN, I mean Crystallis and Zelda and Dragon Warrior had some edeeming qualities but nothing about FF1 was fun for me when I played it, and I played it at the time in a child's life when practically EVERYTHING is fun.
