If you only modify the icon, I don't think thats illegal, because you don't change copyright and other things. Does the icon have something same with other stuff? heh...well..back to the problem, i really don't think it's illegal, because an icon can be changed but the legal info., and copyright stays untouched, so...i don't see the problem.
