I was spamming demon souls before the fire turned my ps3 into toast :(. I moved into my new house yesterday and as soon as we get situated I'm going to start back up again on my brothers ps3. My soul level was 45 :(

Yeah I know, it honestly just reminded me of a ps3 version of gauntlet. I just don't like that you can only team up with players in soul form. The game is still fun nonetheless.

I had them checked last year after Star broke my glasses. >.< On accident, of course. It was pretty strange, but a couple of years before that they said my eyesight would become worse unless I upgraded to something (which I didn't do because I had no money), but last year they didn't mention anything like that. o.o
your eyes get weaker when wearing glasses b/c they are always relaxing and letting something else focus for them

when you wear a slightly-less-focused prescriptions, or if you try not to wear them that often your eyes will be forced to get up off their lazy asses and will degrade less quickly. i try to wear my glasses as little as possible (im just somewhat nearsighted though, it's not like really bad)

this is barring certain conditions and diseases of course

and if your prescription is WAY off, it may force your eyes to focus in ways that are a little damaging over time. but typ it has to be like headache-inducing amounts.

o.o So the gist is not to wear my glasses all the time if I don't need to?

Though, the problem is I really do when I'm doing things on the computer. I always take them off when I do little things like brush my teeth. There are probably plenty of times I don't really need to wear them if I'm not trying to look at something like a computer screen.

Hmmmm... O_oa

i haven't played anything in forever

i think new vegas burnt me out, because it was so good but i couldn't even play it half the time, and that's when my 20 hour save files weren't randomly getting corrupted

999: 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors.

I have well and truly become trapped in a niche. ;_;

i just looked this up and it sounds weirdly interesting, are you enjoying it?

@ moxie- It is great. The story is really slow in spots, because it's done in a kind of book style where there's a description of each action to accompany it being shown on-screen, and there's a lot of redundant text, but once you get into it you'll stop caring and just want to know more. The puzzles are all very clever, but the sort you'll either get straight away or become stuck on because you missed some niggly detail.
As it turns out, this is actually the point.
I definitely recommend it.

I've heard it described as a visual novel, which I gotta say doesn't instill me with hella confidence. what's the ratio of puzzling to staring at static images while actions and dialogue are described to you? Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory were both sort of a mix between adventure games and visual novels, and I really loved those.

Um, I couldn't give you a percentage, but it is VERY story heavy. I've played Hotel Dusk(I didn't really like it and never finished it), and I think the main difference in story breakup is that Hotel Dusk and most visual novels have story mixed with gameplay all throughout, whereas 999 has periods of complete story, where you are given no control at all, outside of a few dialogue branches, and then "escape" sequences, in which you have full control. Given the style of the game, it is a gift and a curse; it makes it really easy to work out where the story branches(which is whenever you're given a choice of doors to go through), and means there's no empty wandering around, but it also means the game kind of takes places in stretches, and certainly at the start you'll just want to get on with it. Honestly, that is pretty much my only problem with the game.

EDIT: If you liked Hotel Dusk I don't see how you couldn't like 999.

i played amnesia for a while (on livestream! :O bacon & soph shared commentary throughout) and ...

:( it's kind of really boring after the water part :(

the puzzles are basically obtuse fetch quests designed to force you to bumble around in the dark (or use up ALL your oil/tinderboxes) as much as possible :/

i got super excited about the insanity meter (recalling fond memories of head pops and volume tinkers etc from Sanity's Requiem) but when you're at "..." level of insanity, it's rather disappointing. you stumble a lot, the screen bulges/wavers, and occasionally you get roaches crawling across the screen.

and there's no way to know what level of health you're at without entering/exiting the main menu :x

and there's no map system (and most of the halls/rooms look the same) and i am reaaally bad with directions ... so i get lost a lot and just end up burning through more oil :(

running from pissy monsters is annoying. like the first time I went "OH GOD OH GOD OH G" but after that I sort of stopped caring!!!

your "eyes" realistically adjust to the lighting--which is very neat. but if you are in a sprint through lit areas into dark ones, you're basically forced to grope around in pitch blackness to find narrow doors and halls. so then you never really want to use tinderboxes, but the oil runs out super fast on your lantern. but then being in the dark lowers your sanity, which makes you slower (i.e. monsterfood).

and every monster takes you out in 1-2 hits, and you can't really defend yourself, and they run sliiiightly faster than you so your only hope is to get to a loading screen so they stop following you.

you can hide, but then you can never quite tell if they're gone while hiding. and sometimes hiding places are hard to come by. you mostly have to resort to locking yourself in armoires or ducking behind crates, but sometimes that's just not possible. i guess that adds to the tension, but then it's so hard to get away from the fuckers when you're nowhere near a zone.

so it plays a lot like metal gear solid, if you are trying to get the achievement of never alerting a guard (and if you do, it's basically a reload). except in this case, snake is a bumbling tool, can't go prone, and has no radar.

and also: OK I GET IT I AM IN A GREY STONE CASTLE WITH RED FURNISHINGS AND RANDOM FLESH PILES THAT HURT ME FOR SOME REASON I DONT UNDERSTAND, SOMEONE PLEASE CHANGE THE SCENERY A LITTLE

and FUCK that dumbass elevator!! so like the "puzzle" of getting the PUZZLE TO WORK so you can get the elevator to even be operational at all is that you have to collect 20 obtuse random ass things.

and then when you think you've gotten almost all the things, a bunch of rocks and shit blocks your path and you have to collect 10 MORE things to make ANOTHER thing (made out of OTHER things) so you can collect 10 MORE things just so you can explode the rocks to get to the things to assemble the puzzle and then solve it even though you solved it a long time ago while thinking about it while searching for fucking THINGS.

and then you solve the puzzle and what do you know? your way is blocked and you're out of oil & tinderboxes.

fuck it where are the fucking stairs in this bitch

BUT,

ADMITTEDLY,

the water part was freaky as shit and very clever

hey, i was there, too!

i didn't want to watch, though, cause i've got the game and don't want to spoil it for myself. plus, i'm just too skurred to play it :(

srs it's not that scary

unless further play on Amnesia reveals some incredibly torridly fucked up nonsense here, SH (spec., SH2) still is reigning champ on my What-The-Fuck-Freakiest-Shit-Ever meter

for an indy studio though it is rather impressive.

Awesome Bro

Amnesia isn't scary as such, but it's creepy as fuck, it's also better when you play it in the dark with your headphones on and have it really loud, or if you have it hooked up to 5.1/7.1 surround with the sub turned right up...
