What are you working on? (Game Making Thread)

Gah! These battle systems are pissing me off. I've implemented my solution, but I'm not happy with it.
I can try a few things still. But I'm running in place here.

phpBB now uses extensions instead of hard coded mods. Which is good, going forwards, but it means I will have to (or rather, ought to) remake the things I made for Old Afar.

On the plus side I found out I can do Guilds pretty much out of the box, as well as many other things.

Trying to animate water, and failing majorly.
I ended up trying something similar to what the original Rayman game did with its water.
It's not great, but it will have to do for now... or until release, haha.

I didn't get very far working on sprites last night, for Starwberry's game. My goal was to complete a 8x8 character sheet. But all I did was make the sheet, fill it with templates and few sprites I had already started.
Then I got distracted googling Victorian common life paintings for costume design. Then searched for advice on composing crowds/mob scenes. Then somehow I got into Piet Mondrian, hoping to gain some new insight for orthographic perspective compositions. I feel like his theories could be helpful in map design or layouts in general.
Before I knew it, it was 3 am.

I don't like making excuses, but some of the blame goes to my sister's dog I've been watching for 3 weeks. Eating a lot of my free time (and my turkey sandwiches). It goes home tomorrow and at least I got some yard work done while outside.

Today I shall be mostly working on Afar. I'm almost at the stage where I would be happy releasing it to the public, though there is not much to do in it. At the very least, before release, I want there to be an economy, communication, and a little area to explore.

Haven't been here in ages...weee.

Been working on a little something in my new favorite engine, Construct 2. Been at it for is...say, two months? Almsot two months. Progress being top to down, top being the earliest stuff. First picture was a super early build of this, had some features I had to cut tempoarily.

That looks pretty cool, LaDest. The shadows in the top image, are they static via tilemaps or something? It looks awesome.
I do wonder how you plan to do enemies though. That always trumps me with that kinda game.

The shadows were plain images (apparently somewhat transparent white splotches) that had destination out or something, but I couldn't get them to play nice with my own events, since they came from an old template I've built on top. I ditched it for that reason but I want to find a better method to work with the Lamp item.

I've got enemies mostly figured out, for just the basics. Animations, AI states (switch between states, based on a timer, and either choose random states, or choose dependant on criteria, such as walk, idle, alerted, shooting, etc), pathfinding to the player, and both player and enemy-side damage/knockback.

Dresses for the party. Since these fantasy races come with a rainbow of color i think I'll keeping the outfits a uniform 2 colors. I'm still playing around with shapes and values. Hopefully I'll have enough hair and outfit combinations to fill the game.

I've been slowly working on a small-ish game, getting some place holder graphics in.
They're not supposed to be pretty, basically I made em so that I understand what I'm looking at.
I copied a Pokemon Red style:

This is the main companion of the game. Its name is Ardvark. A demon that becomes bound to the main character.

The magic that binds the demon to the hero doesn't bind its corporeal form, meaning it can transform into other demons, if you're both strong enough.

I also decided to try mapping again, since it has been a while since I've done any.

I have been planning out an entire map for the game, but haven't completed it. I decided to just map the home town section of the game and I think it has turned out pretty well.

The map started out as this

Honestly, XP has very nice tiles, but because of the way the system handles them it becomes more about layer management.

This washing line annoys me. It's on the 2nd layer with the building being on the 3rd, yet the top line still shows as on top :/

On the whole I like this project. I don't have a lot of time to work on it sadly, but I'm trying to just scrape together what I can as a prototype.
It's the clearest game idea I've had, as I know pretty well where I want to go with it as well as how everything links. I'm also pretty set on how the system should work too so I've just gotta actually make it now! Haha!
