What are you working on? (Game Making Thread)

Trying to make a death scene look both "interesting" and cartoony... not sure how far to go each way. Lots of gore is obviously going to have issues, but then none at all would too.

I've finally decided upon one of the 12 projects I have on the go and have been working on a story line. I've also started on spriting key character Ancestral Dragon Lidong who acts as the village's God.

The box on the right was supposed to act as the scale but I have a feeling Lidong isn't going to fit in it by the time I'm done (which is OK considering he's supposed to be massive).

Mine is too. I've got a main plot, but when it gets down to specific parts of the story I'm like "Shit."
I've been reworking the plot since the start of this contest.

Since I'm starting work, I'll be trying to work on drawing maps while I'm on the train and then working on them when I get home.
One of the ones I started the other day has an issue cause of something I didn't take into account on the tileset.
Here is a successful version of a map that I drew the other day and have been woking on for a few days:

Contemplating a couple issues.

First of all, trying to work out a proper (basic) narrative for Luminux. I know (obviously) an action puzzle game isn't something you expect a story from, but I'm hoping to put in a minor one. You have to use a light hand for it though, but not too light or it's a pointless addition.

Second of all, trying to figure out a good monetization scheme for it. I want to avoid the sleazy practices that are all over the place. I also want to eat food. Hoping I can find a nice balance by using an "Energy System" with a pay to remove it.

Doing all this while trying to balance the 19 hours of school I am taking. Very rarely do I just have "fun" lately. Though to be honest, I'm not sure how much I mind. I'm REALLY sick of school though, I feel like I have much more engaging and important things to focus on (gamedev.)

I don't know why, but looking at this puts a smile on my face. Potion this is pretty darn adorable that you're drawing your dungeons by hand like this. It's also smart - I mean you'll be ready instead just making random paths like I do. :P

Do show some examples.

I used to do similar things. I have notebooks with game development information inside. XD

In regards to the thread - I'm still having trouble with deciding what to develop as a game. :|

Hiccup thank you for reminding me to get graph paper for when I get to the level design phase.

Nearly finished Lidong sprite and will be starting the rest of the sprites for the crops this week. If all goes well I'll have the villagers, soldiers, and a couple of key characters finished by next Sunday. I've also been looking into making my own custom tile sets but I'm positive my art skill isn't at that level yet.. I might open a request sometime in the future with monetary compensation.

Haha thanks guys.
To be honest the finished map was quite different from the drawn version, but I guess that's to be expected haha.
Stawberry, I actually still do go into maps head first sometimes, but since this work is going to be taking up a lot of my time, I've gotta find something to substitute xD
Sauk, graph paper is pretty good for level design but I find that the actual grid on the paper is rather distracting D:
Maybe that's just me...
While on my lunch break and on the train back home I started to write out a little space horror game which I think could be pretty cool, but I want to avoid cliches... We'll see...

Came up with some characters while writing. I don't know which is harder: Making a story out of a game, or making a game out of a story. I'd like to do something with a scribe. But I don't know how to make a game that doesn't involve fighting. Replace HP with ink? Paper instead of equipment? It needs conflict.

Taking a break from game making for a few days to hammer out the eZine, hopefully I get back into it at the end of it, as I'm really excited about my current project.

Maybe have him be telling the story of each battle, so after every attack you get his narration, etc?

I should really finish the few things I need to do to push a really small demo of my project thus far. I've only got a couple of scenes to make, but I got distracted by Minecraft. :x Posting this so I feel obligated to work on it tonight!! lol
