Yeah, but I have OCD when it comes to things like this, I'm using either 5 or 3 because I like there to be equal space between the player and the edges of the map, whereas if there were 4 it would be uneven and I'd flip out and kill some woodland critters...

However, I'll make some more examples of it, lol...
 
@Jbrist: I like the style, a sort of pseudo-side scroller. It's an interesting approach to mapping, personally I think it looks better than typical VX mapping. Just keep in mind that if you plan on doing all your maps that way, your game progression will likely be very linear (which isn't a bad thing, just something to consider).

@Jbrist: Though I don't understand much in VX, I say this is looking very good! The style gives a mystic and realistic feeling to the scene. I'd love to see more examples. ^^

And the second one looks better for me. ;)

@Ace of Spades: I am loving this HUD. <D Though I didn't really get the part in the left lower corner, I think it's looking simple and efficient in the same time. <3

If you know how to script, that would be great! It would definitely improve the menu and would make it look unique. If you don't you can always put in a script request and some kind of mock up. I'm sure someone will likely help : )

Hmm I don't really know how to script although I am sure that if I needed help, I can always request. :3 I am going for this kind of menu for now and hope for the best later. ;)

Thank you for the comments! To better explain, the lower left displays your weapons. I wanted it classic Zelda style, so you can equip two weapons and your sword. The shift key uses your sword, and the ctrl and alt buttons use your equipped weapons respectively.

Okay, so I've got a batch of three screenshots here, one of them is the one I've shown above, although I've changed the screen tone on it, on all three of them infact, to suit the area...

So this is the swamp area you saw above, although I've added a green tint to it, and think it looks tons better...

This is a "town" area, I realised I can't fit as much in as I'd like, however, I can easily make multiple maps for a town and use transfer events for this, so it isn't a problem at all.

And the last one, it's... a cave! Hmm, I can't add too much to the cave since the RTP is a little limited in this area, but whatever, it works in my opinion...

I seriously would do, but I'd never be able to figure out a story for it... so unless anyone fancies helping me with that, I doubt this'll see the light of day, just like everything else I make, lol... (Although I DO have a Game Maker game which is like, 95% done which I could release... but meh)

Although I'll TRY to think of something on this, lol... because I quite like the look of it too, and would want to see it turn into a finished game, even if it IS short.
 
just fill it up with a random story about a soldier who goes out for groceries
and have a lot of gossip which leads to all the ingredients for a cake
because the grocery is closed
so you need another way to find stuff

Although I've got a little good news...

I've just opened Notepad and facerolled the keyboard, and have a few ideas for a story... AND a name for it!

inorite, it's the most creative thing I've done in a while!

IT MAY SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY AFTERALL! DANCE WITH ME TOMAS, DANCE WITH ME!
 
Nice job. I like the style, reminds me of the NES/SNES RPG days mixed in with Mario and Zelda.

What I have so far for my evented intro:

Although you may provide cristiism yourself, I just have two questions:
Is the screen too bright?
I have a single SE so far that plays in the intro, a "Sonnnnic!!!!!" call (Amy's voice) when the Amy Chao appears from the tree. Would that stick out?

For those who are not sure of what is going on:
In the beginning, A NRR Chao walks onto the scene and in the middle left area or so, he looks left for about two seconds, then up for two seconds or so, then right where then an exclamation emoti-ball appears and he spots an item capsule across the river. He uses the spring to jump over the river and snatches the item capsule. Then an Amy Chao comes out from behind the tree (apparently, she was hiding there all along?) and ambushes him with a cute "heart" emoti-ball and hug motion. He jumps in shocks and then runs off from her, and she does a tantrum movement, and then runs off to chase after her "hero".

Not the full thing, just what concept I have so far.

@Jbrist: It's looking very nice, too, but I feel that the town's one is a bit empty...The other two are cool and this one is, too, but it feels a little plain in my opinion. ^^;

@Miles: Very cute~! I think it's looking very pretty although the water looking more like a blue circle (not detailed enough). As for the brightness, I think it's fine as long as the whole setting stays so, or you could darken it a bit if you'd like. As for the SE, I think that if it's soft enough, it might flow in~ ^^

Edit:

I've got now this Saving Menu (all by Mog of course). I don't think it's too bad but maybe somewhat plain? Any opinions, anybody~? :smile:

So, for a long while; I've had a dilemma of what to present after the player hits New Game on my evented title screen as I didn't want the player just to be teleported to the SS Chao Garden with no intro or explanation of what the hell is going on. So, I decided to borrow a idea from EarthBound/Mother 2 (hopefully, this was a smart choice), where upon hitting New Game, the player is asked for their settings to be set just like in EarthBound (Text Speed, Stereo or Mono, Windowskin, and then being asked to name Chaoin, the main character) and I think I'm pretty satisfied. I know, the green stripes background clashes with the messages, but I'm planning to replace it with something that matches the coloration much more. Here's a screenie:

@Miles Castea: Is that just a mockup or an actual screenshot? If it's a screenie then the letters could be centered together better. Not a huge fan of the font but it's far from the worst out there, and I'm just picky anyway. The sprite of the chao should be a bit bigger and the "name:" window should move to the right a little to balance things out more.

@Ar Romero: It's a cool concept you're going for but imo the style comes off as being a bit sloppy. The scribbles in the back in particular seem almost a tad lazy. I think it's the type of brush you're using - it looks a lot like the default brush in Photoshop (if it isn't) so I would maybe suggest using something a little more unique.
 
I'm actually using a custom scene_name script but I guess I could customize to make it look awesome. Also, EB=WIN

Wait: Did I say that? Awesome? Err...I mean better.
