The Screenshot Thread

A shitty video of something I'm screwing around with.

Slight bug with the direction faced when jumping.

for CanadaATW ... I dont like it. not because its bad but because its not realistmic. if somewhere was important enough like that to have a big road next to a giant crater abyss huge mountain they would have put fences there too. try making one along the edge of the mountain or at least decorate the cliffside. and if the white haired guy falls off make sure it BREAKS some of the decoration or fence if you use one. its a good way to make people always remember what happend there when they walk past area again

most of you people should comment on others screenshots when you post yours too. its only polite if your asking opinions on your pic to offer yours to other people

@Wyatt:
Pretty cool stuff, but those jumps and etc. are the built-in RM movement controls, right? I don't think the method is good for platformers, as it feels very awkward at times, and often has a hitting-invisible-ceiling feel.

Not a screenshot-screenshot but a screenshot none the less:

Jesus Hima that looks so freaking awesome @_@ I didnt really read over the post, but is that actually made in RPG maker or Game maker?

@Canada:
I think the road is a little too straight at parts, curving them around a bit should feel more natural; but that may be a personal preference. Adding some tall grass tiles there may also give it a more natural feel. c: Good luck.

technically speaking, unless there there's anything in particular to avoid, manmade roads will tend to be fairly straight, especially on a plateau where there isn't really any raised ground to move around.

Skie, the barrier around the dirt path and the outlines of the weeds seem to stand out a lot more than they should. it also looks pretty weird that the tree trunks widens and splits out into branches a little before the leaves show up.

wyatt: the camera follows you a little too closely for my liking. give the character a little more space to move around in before the camera starts to track.

p.s. reives, that isn't a screenshot, that's an ad. I understand this thread is partially for advertisement purposes, but don't post here just to drum up hype.

@Miek:
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know that we weren't allowed to post anything that gives away what something is for here. I'll make sure to never do it again.

@Sonata:
Thanks. It's for "Lyra's Melody". Won't be released on this board though.

@Hima:
Whoa, I missed that. Very nice, utilizing the bullet system all the way I see. Love the effect as always. This seems to be harder to dodge than the shooter style, though; is that true, or is it a visual illusion again?

im sorry bro post all the tiny zoomed-in teaser screenshots with titles that you want to

i was wrong it's okay and also very useful for people who want to critique your graphical style

Reives that's not really the problem. That's really more the sort of thing you'd put in your sig(if it wasn't so tall), not screenshot thread. Sure, this thread does serve to hyp things, but that purpose is secondary to the purpose of getting critique on whatever you post. There's really nothing people can critique on what you posted(aside from the slightly pretentious title). That's all. :)

Actually, that is the in-game size; it is a component from the title screen. However, the title text is not the Title Pic in the real title screen sequence, so that isn't an excuse for that.

I was under the impression that the screenshot thread, unlike the Mapping and Improvement thread, was more so created for simply displaying graphical elements including videos, title screens and the like. Critiques are certainly helpful wherever the occasion, but I didn't get the feeling that it was a necessity to the screenshot thread legacy.

On that note, however; just because it is small (at this stage of planning, it is probably going to be the entire portion of that scene to be displayed in the title page, among others in other areas of the screen) does not mean that there is nothing to possibly critique about the "graphical style" as said; as the graphical style is sitting there as is.

For example, perhaps the colour scheme is over/under saturated. One actual critique of this has been that Lyra's head leaning right is a bit awkward, as it feels like the head is dislocated rather than turning. Trying to fix that up now actually, but struggling.

^ I did take up the extra work of editing and reup'ing the screen with the title after the Miek's first message about it, by the way.

anyway basically the point is to show us something. I don't care if you're here to drum up anticipation, but do it with actual (hopefully interesting) material instead of just a vague staged picture and a "hey guys im makkin a gamr :thumb:."

title screens don't count for just that reason; read the first post. this isn't the cheap pr thread this is the "show us what you got" thread.

Er, that isn't prettied up in photoshop. Unless you count not showing the part of the screen that is blank/to be placed with picture/title options.

I would say that it is something though. I respect your earlier statement, especially about the title, as I really should have erased it prior to posting - But now you are starting to sound a bit off-rail.

Edit: Oh, clarification: While it is being shown on the title screen, but it is an in-game map, is it not? It did actually take some work to do the sprite poses, albeit due to my inferior spriting skills they did not come off as shiny as I had hoped - I would like to think that it is something.

and? how is it showing us anything about your game? hima had a gameplay video and skie had new graphics and an abs to parade around in. it's not mandatory that you show us something new and dynamic but I'm pretty disappointed at you that you're basically making like a newcomer to the scene and posting some random image without context, hoping it'll drum up hype.

show us your actual game none of this staged title stuff

idk read the edits I made that covers most of what I'm trying to say

How is it not showing anything about the game? Would filling in the same style of maps that I have shown for who knows how many times to the rest of a 640x480 space show anything more about the game? The focus of the screen would've been the two characters, hopefully and intendedly cutesy and with poses of playing guitar and laying next to eachother - no matter how many more layers of maps there are. It is the content that matters, not the size.

I'm rather disappointed to see what you're trying to resort to.
