The Screenshot Thread

New thread, new screens. These screenshots are from a new game of mine, which is based on a book. I'm still working on a few of these areas, and I haven't started making any of the storyline yet, but it's a start. I want some comments.

It might be hard, but also, I wonder if anyone can guess the book... It's not that well known...

@BlueLink91: Okay first of all your town shot looks pretty good. I like that the NPCs and your primary character are all wearing the right clothing. It bugs the hell out of me when you see people wearing casual clothing in a place where in reality they simply wouldn't. This of course excludes your characters because it can be a mission to change them. Anyway, the other shots, outside the temple looks nice I like that you've put a mountainside surrounding the temple, sometimes people just put temples in the middle of no-where like the pyramids, you tell me one temple beyond those that is just plonked in the middle on nowhere and doesn't have some kind of scenery around it. Good work. When you get inside the temple, the mapping is nice but it seems a little cramped in there, I'm not sure if you're looking for warm and mysterious or spooky and creepy look though so I can't really comment beyond that.

@Feldschlacht IV: You didn't say a THING about what was going on in the screenshot so I can't really comment to be honest. Good use of a tileset is all I can say.

@fox5: Excellent work. This first screen reminds me a little of the creepy intro to Cell Chamber, the only game to come close to making me poop my pants! Very creepy. As for the other two screenshots, I know this isn't about mapping but you're damn good at it. But like the previous two, you didn't really say much about what was going on in these two pictures so I can't really comment if they look as they should. Although the dead rabbit is a bit screwed up lol!

Thanks. I'm glad I captured a sense of horror in that first screen. That was the main idea. The second screen is at the main enterance into a girl's collage (anyone guess the book yet?), and the third is just outside the main enterance, on a small one-way road where a rabbit has just been run over.

TheUn4giv3n: Not too bad, your maps need some work, (things are a lot straighter than they should be, especially cliffs and water) and the areas seem pretty empty, but otherwise it's not bad.

Some screens from a small game I'm working on. It follows stage based ABS format and cuts down on the usual RPG fluff.

Scene before stage 1

ABS testing. I'm trying to get rid of the letters and numbers like Stock, MP, LV, EXP, etc at the moment.

@TheUn4giv3n:
Ah, what the...?! You tried mixing the palm tree with the dead tree at the first screen? C-Creeps!
Overall, both are in need of some work. The mapping is okay, but could be improved a lot. Try filling the empty spaces and adding some interessing effects (overlay/fog/lightning...).

@Skie Fortress:
That's sweet, dude. I'm tired of those ABS scripts, but what took my attention is the artwork/sprites. Are they original?
The tree's foliage is looking weird. Maybe you could improve that. ;)

Good luck with your projects!
SEE YA!!!!!

Yes, the artwork, sprites, and tilesets are original.

Skie Fortress, I don't like the trees. The leaves should flow in one direction, rather than all over the place.

I realize myself that the trees are pretty bad, but I'm on a limited amount of time for this project, so I can only get it done and move forward for now.

A quick screenie from my game
Screen-1.png

this is a cutscene where a temporary member of your party (the mage with the white hair) dies, and then his sister takes his place in your party.

@Skie:
Nice, there's a consistency in there with all the graphical components, even the char-pics which are strictly cell-shaded instead of gradient-esque. And yeah, it'd look better without those texts.

@Canada:
I think the road is a little too straight at parts, curving them around a bit should feel more natural; but that may be a personal preference. Adding some tall grass tiles there may also give it a more natural feel. c: Good luck.

It's Sabriel! The rabbit was a dead give away. It's got to be pretty well know since you're not the first to recreate it in rmxp. The was another project like maybe a year ago with a demo. The download might still be intact.
I think it's interesting that you both chose the swamp tileset for death (assuming that's what you're using it for)
I imagined it as just running water with shadowy dead underneath, no trees, But as a game, I guess you'd have to make it look interesting.

A fighting game that I'm working on. There are still a lot of stuffs I need to balance though. I didn't realize there would be so much parameter in a fighting game @_@ ugh

@Skie
The HUD is kinda confusing to me. Is the number on the red gauge HP or EXP? Other than that it looks interesting. I don't think we have Touhou action game yet :D

Actually, I cleared all that stuff out now. It should clearly be Health now to people...hopefully.

Anyway, I like what you have there so far. I remember playing a touhou variant of that kind of game. It was fun as hell for the amount of time that I played it. I'm sure you'll surpass it though. Good luck. :3

Yeah it's much better now. Is she drunk punching those little fairies ? lol
Also is there any reason why the HUD doesn't display the full Suika's portrait?

Nah, she's using a bomb(or a spellcard)

The XAS HUD doesn't seem to like the size of the face, so the top is cut off. I'm not too sure how to fix it, so it's just been hanging there for now.

edit: Oh shi- top of the page.
