Them maps look RTP.

No such thing as talent! Only persistence. Sheer, stubborn, unwavering persistence...

Okay, so, some people are a teensy bit more talented than others... but most often it's just how much time and effort they've invested. I came here not knowing how to draw, thinking I'd never be able to... and now I'm designing my own graphics, learning to be a pixel artist and all, thanks to studying work by Tana, Inq, etc. Just gotta keep on at it! ^_^

Very well drawn fire effects there. Agreed on not trying to animate the entire thing. It'll work fine this way if you get the narrative right and a few seconds of animation that takes a week to work on just isn't worth it here. People will love it still-frame too if you get the narrative right.

I agree, those fire effects are really well done.

I should really post one of my own screens within the next coming days :/

@Zenogias: I like how those screens look. I'm not a fan of RTP but those screens look nice.

Yeah it looks like a good use of RTP, although from recent screens it seems the only way to make the RTP look decent is to add a massive amount of fogs and effects to the screen :p

The tileset isn't RTP.. Obviously the black-haired character in the first screenshot is RTP, but the other two characters and the tileset are definatly not. (The tileset was something I found on a random japanese site a long time ago.)

Glad you like it though. :#

Personally I think the sprites could do with being a little bolder and sharper in comparison to the background media. The sprite seems to get a little lost in the background in my opinion.

This is Rumi's battle graphic! I've made sure to make some updates in my Blog regarding the Battle Characters and the maps.
Once I make the Maps usable in-game, I'll Post them here too!

I like it. I really can't wait to see this game in action. I want tosee how these characters flow and how the backgrounds interact with the character sprites. Very cool.

I agree with Cal, there should be a outline of some sorts, because the characters and the back drops mesh too well. That shot in particular isn't that bad because of the setting's colors vs her colors, but I could only image the pain it would be to see that graphic in a darker setting, say a cave for instance.

yeah, I can see what you're saying... Problem is that outlines may make them stand out too much. hmm I'm actually NOW considering a different method of Animating and Painting the characters... I'll do a little test and post it here...

I have been talking to my Map artist, who loves Game Design talk :P
and I've been considering going to Higher Resolutions, probably to add some more details on the characters. I'm also considering Animating through other methods, which would give me many more frames of animation.
That is a Good idea, Calibre, and I will try the ToS one, see if it works. and yeah WA3 is wayyy too much.

Also think - if it's animated, and the background is static, the sprites will stand out... That's not something we can see from a screenshot :)
