Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

if that meant fairy tale, whats this one supposed to mean? :\

looks pretty neat though, I don't like how th clock looks, it would've done fine without all that distortion :P

Can't wait to try XD

Hey, thanks December! And woo!

@monkey: You'll know why the distortion is there. c:
@Lucid: It doesn't have any connections with Elfen Lied, although it does sound similar. The name is now "The" Mirror Lied, speaking of which.

Anyhow, in celebration of the 1000th post, if you will, I present you:
http://www.rmxp.org/forums/index.php?topic=47870.0

P.S. Note that many might not like this, but it doesn't hurt to try. c:

Well, here's my criticism:

1. The first boss is a bit too difficult IMO
2. Lack of revival
3. The menu looks IDENTICAL to Chrono Trigger's.

Good plot and character development IMO. Now to finally beat that damn snake thing...

How is a boss being too difficult a criticism, it's like saying that you didn't enjoy a ride because it was too big. Difficulty is what makes a game, and fair enough if you thought it was a bit too hard, but no one else did, and I guaranteed you that you would be a lot more annoyed if it were too weak. Your second point is just a bit... well, call me stupid or call me simple, but I just don't get it. I mean, yeah where you're coming from... but I mean. Ah well everyone's entitled to their own opinion. As for the menu, maybe that's because its a Chrono Trigger's lookalike menu, or perhaps it's just similar. For crying out loud, I mean, half of the games on this forum has something similar to a real game. Final Fantasy remakes anyone? Pokemon started kits anyone?

I mean seriously, think more about your points than just stating the obvious. Back up your criticism.

Heheh, that's fine. c:

By revival, you mean in-battle revival, right? If so, that has crossed my mind several times, and I do believe that it would be neat to implement sometimes. The main thing blocking it is the current lack of item capability in-battle, which I still need to look into in the future.

The menu looks identical to Chrono Triggers probably because it is "Chrono Triggers Menu System script by Raziel", heheh. I do think it would be a good idea to get an original menu system sometimes, it would surely add a nice touch. I chose the CT one for now because the script had a built-in "chapter title" option that stamps a title on each save, and I found that to work nicely with the chapter systems. For now, I'll just settle for not looking identical to the default RTP menu, heheh.

Good luck with the snake! You can search "quintessence snake boss" on youtube, and a sample video with hints in its description should be up there. c: Thanks for dropping by.

Erm, I said the FIRST boss, which implies there's a fairly steep difficulty curve if you don't level grind; which I don't do.

Not quite in-battle revival, just the ability to revive. You can't leave the dungeon at all, I'm certain I found every item available, and there's nothing that allows me to revive anyone.

I don't play Final Fantasy or Pokemon so I wouldn't really know on that point.

Oh, wait a minute, are you saying that after a battle a character is still knocked out? That must be a glitch on my part; all characters are supposed to be revived at the end of each fight. When/where was this, if you remember? Dungeon/outside/etc.

Okay I have to say wow for your story telling it is beautiful! Unfortunatly I'm also a perfectionist and I've noticed you have a number of passability issues and mapping errors in this game!

Here is the latest and most ridiculous one to date that I've noticed:

(I have a squirell doing the exact same thing for a screen shot!

However because the storyline is so captivating I will continue to play this! Since that is your biggest objective from what I can understand I guess you could call this a success. Still try to make sure people can't go walking around in the sky! :tongue2:

That's no bug; you just unlocked the secret item "Red Bull". :x

Thanks for the heads up! I'm assuming that it's launched from one of the grass tiles? I'll try to find it and patch it up. c: Glad you are enjoying the story so far.

Dungeon type thing, the ruins in Chapter 3 I believe.

Yes you said first boss. That in no way argues against me, it's just stating another obvious point.
And you obviously havn't been around for that long if you don't know what a pokemon starter kit is, or what a final fantasy remake is. To be honest I thought their titles were self explainitory.

So.. what.. I hope this isn't another thread that ignores any criticism besides the good. I mean.. its a bit one sided.

Hmm... Maybe because it is good?

There are plenty of negarive feedbacks though. Many people don't like it for being to storydriven... But the majority likes it. Maybe thats, why there are so many good comments here...

Gee thats good and all, but ignoring criticism isn't the smartest thing you can do.

Not even the best at their craft are perfect, when someone grows deaf to other comments for aspirations and false senses of perfection.. they handicap themselves and leaves room for others to surpass them.

Whoa, hold your horses, Sukai.

You know what has been really getting on my nerves lately? People who judges a project being one that "ignores criticisms" just because there exist posters out there who does. People who do this to the actual thread holders is the same as those who ignores criticisms to them - Seriously annoying, and comes off as acting righteous without the slightest of thought.

When a project thread gets a large pool of posters over-time, it is inevitable that rotten apples comments that ignores criticisms will be embedded. It exists in almost every large project threads here somewhere, and its mere existence speaks nothing for the actual project itself. To think otherwise is, more often than not, sour grapes.

I know that this wasn't exactly your attitude, Sukai, and I don't direct all of that at you. But having to read a one-liner like this out of no where:
I hope this isn't another thread that ignores any criticism besides the good. I mean.. its a bit one sided.
Right after I just acknowledged one, even, is seriously disappointing.

I agree with reives as she (that's right isn't it) just took into account my criticisms.

Anyway this game is looking great and so far I've highly enjoyed it. That boss wasn't really difficult at all, except when he turned into a bat because his speed went from naught to max. Still I beat him first round so I didn't see it as too difficult and I don't do any level grinding either.

Also Reives I noticed another small bug which forced me to re-load my game!

I like to call it "I got busted while transfer event was occuring"

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/ ... tected.png[/img]

You can't really stop that from occuring but maybe in case that does occur have an erase picture event on the next map otherwise well... Playing with the word DETECTED across the screen isn't that fun.

Well I wouldn't call that a criticism per say, heheh. But calling me a "she" is! :p

I think Ryu was talking about the snake boss in the cave in chapter 3. But aye, the battle system has been having an extreme diverse reception as far as difficulty goes, and I've been trying to lower the learning curve a bit. Still need to find a way to sort the getting-used-to part, though, as it is rather in-your-face after 3 chapters with no game-play.

Ugh, thanks a lot for that heads up, I think that was the first time it was brought to my attention - Terrible bug. :x Will get to fixing it right away.

Oh, speaking of which, I've started working on Quintessence again after the short break, so expect more progress reports or the like from now on again.

Oh yeah the first time I versed the snake I died! I forgot the "S" button which made the next time really easy! :thumb:

Damn I got it wrong!

I'm one of those people who manages to spot every bug in a game. Hence why it will probably be another half a year before I ever release a sneak peek to my game!

I just got up to the winter part of the game! It was then that I realised that there was only two extra cure portions as it didn't take into account Reives. Oh yeah and does it relate back to first scene ever again. I think I only saw the dark elemental after the first chapter and haven't seen anything of her again.

Also:

I know this could spoil it for me but does Serai actually die and is does she come back into the main plot line as an actual character anytime soon?

EDIT:

I LOVED the haunted cave! It played out so well! I actually tripped when I saw that the doll had moved. I was expecting a battle when you run into the girl but the result of it left me laughing for ten minutes! Probably because when I was a little kid I went on a haunted mansion ride and found it utterly stupid till some random guy tapped me on the shoulders from behind. I shat myself and in the mean time punched him in the nose out of reflex. I too wasn't alowed back on the ride!

Yep, the 2-doses thing is intentional if that's what you were asking; Kardian was not aware that Reivier took one. And aye, of course it will relate back to the first scene again; after all, it is the "future" or however you speak of it. Perhaps not the exact scenario again, but I'd think that they still do come into play. c: I thought that it was slowly showing some shadows to that aspect of the story since the end of chapter 6; ever-so-slowly though, heheh.

About Serai - no comment. Maybe you'll edit that after you finish.

And hah, nice incident in the haunted mansion. I know someone who jumped back at a hired monster-cosplayer in some haunted house too, and the cosplayer flinched and fell back. :p Poor guy, I heard his boss saw it.
