Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

The sprite's that bad, eh? :'p Those who played chapter 6 and up would probably have a good guess on what the thing he's holding is. Although "scratch" was a fluke of a word to use there; my bad! And thanks, midir.

Oh I see it is a bird. I must say rieves, this looks really good and I am gonna download them when I get some free time this week. How long are they typically?

Sure; many thanks for your time in advance, then. :smile: As for length, there are 8 chapters, and each is usually between 30 min - 1 hour, perhaps a little more depending on play-style. Although I'll have to nag again as I have been for the past year; the earlier chapters (1 to 3 or 4, minus the intro, perhaps) are rather tedious in quality relative to the newer ones ( 5 - 8 ); I still do have to do some revamping to those. Real game-play also does not start until chapter 3, which still needs to be fixed.

I think it might be a rock. Or an alive onion.

Still, it has Vikon in it which makes it fantastic.
Any approximates as to how long chapter IX (wow) will be?

Live onion or not, I'm crying from the inside. :p

Recognizable now? c:
Chapter IX will be under an hour. Probably 45 minutes or so, if not shorter - I might try to get a short release this time.

Now, due to some recent inspirations, I have decided to remake the intro music video - to full pseudo animations with picture layering and etc., like the horse cutscene in Chapter 7 that I've milked so much for screenshots. Will post more info and detail on it in the near future.

In the mean time, what do ya guys think of this future change? Not that there's much to judge on yet, but I suppose just the idea of a pseudo animation intro.

The screens good, though I think there is too much snow on the tent, it looks too thick. There should also be snow on the log. Can't wait for Chapter 9.

Thanks guys. And ah, thanks for the heads up, 006; I also gotta fix up the jesus plants, heheh.

Okay, here's the idea of the first scene in the intro (currently the raining scene), after the opening verse:

Concept sketch:

Basically, it's Reivier playing an ocarina under a tree, and it'll probably be raining nice big emo raindrops.

-The tree, sky and Reivier will be different pictures.

The camera starts from the bottom and slowly pans up. As it does so, each of Reivier, the tree and the sky will move at a different pace appropriately (since they're different pics) to result in a pseudo perspective-changing effect. After that's done (halfway through the current rain scene in length), it then pans up slowly on a zoomed in version of Reiv's face/ocarina again. :-[

After that's done, the rain scene part/first verse of the song is done. It then fades to the next scene, which I do have ideas of but will disclose in the near future.

----------------

I've actually just started a really, really minor side project today - It will take most likely 2-3 days to complete. I will also most likely be reusing some of its map in Quintessence, so that's not that much of a waste of time. c: Again, it's really minor, and expect to see it in the next few days. Here's a screenshot:

And speaking of which, I do have plans on revamping some of Quintessence's cosmetic fogs as they stand now.

a little side project will really display your skill after so long, can't wait XD

also, I like the intro plan, I had something pretty much just like that planed for a ending credits scene except it was sideways XD I gave up on it after I got those cute chibi commisions and thought it would be a much cuter ending credits :P

A picture scened intro? The more picture scenes the better, imo :smile:. So besides the scene with Reives and his ocarina, would it be a would it be possible to keep the intro fast paced with pictures though?
[I'm assuming you are talking about the intro where they show Lunair and Reives in different scenarios in the game(like the prison), and not the title screen.]

@Monkey:
Ah, heheh. Hope the new plans go well for ya then.

@Neverplayd:
Yep, that is the intro that I am talking about (only one there is at the moment :p ). And actually, for the prison part of it, I plan on keeping the background motion as it is right now (with sprites on tileset), however, perhaps do something over it at a lower opacity to the sides - perhaps character portraits of some sort.

And thanks, redmoon.

I am almost done with my minor minor side-project that I started the day before yesterday, and should be released tomorrow or the day after. While it is completely unrelated to Quintessence game-wise, it shows what to expect for future lighting revamp, etc. Here's another screenshot from it:

Expect to see it on the board in the near future.

Sup Reives I heard u put an animation in ur game how did you make it and how did you insert it into the game? Because Id like to put a Flash Animation in a game but I can't and I can't find a working script... Anyway I still haven't played your game but I will one day, it seems good, and in the videos I've seen the music combines very well with the animation. Keep it up!

:/ Using a flash animation in rmxp? Can you even do that? Or do you mean the series of pictures that he used to make a scene? I don't think you need a script for that though. (But you need a lot of computer graphic experience...)

I think Reives used a combination of Photoshop'd pictures and the "Show Picture", "Move Picture' commands. There is a way to show a flash animation, but you need to use a script and it pops up in a new window. Unless you have some really awesome complicated effect or movie you want to show, I'd suggest the picture method.

I'd just like to say: Reives, this is an awesome game, I love the story, the ideas, everything about it, I have enjoyed every moment that i've spent playing it so far and look forward to playing chapter IX. So thank you for bringing us this, what I consider anyway, masterpiece :).

@John:
As Neverplayd and Regi kindly responded (thanks!), I did not use a flash file, and it was just pseudo animation by manipulating pictures. Combined with photoshop pre-renders where necessary (the motion blur of close-lens trees in the horse scene, for example), pseudo animations with multiple layers of pictures is doable with some head-aching coding/coordinate work.  :smile: Good luck with it!

@Pureaura:
Thank you, glad ya enjoyed it! http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/forum/S ... nsmile.gif[/img] Chapter IX is about halfway done, although it is a relatively short chapter compared to the recent few.

I apologize for the inactiveness; I have been scurrying on a 5-day mini side experimental project (first time I trailed off, but it's a very small one) as I've mentioned in recent posts. It was a good practice, and is to be released tomorrow. After I am finished with it tomorrow, I will continue to finish up Chapter IX. As mentioned, Chapter IX is about halfway through so far, but is a relatively short chapter.

Cheers~
