Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

@Helladen:
Sure, that'd be appreciated. Thanks. c:

@Neverplayd:
Got your PM and went through it - I found out what was wrong. The transformation system was supposed to be disabled once you are in at the mountain leading up to the carnival, yet I carelessly only disabled it when the player comes in as a bird only. A rather embarrassing mishap on my part, but it is fixed now.  Thanks a lot for the detailed descriptions!

----------------

Now, a couple of days ago I received a satirical email about the project. It was fortunate that there were some give-aways as to who sent it, but I am not go in details about the actual email. [It was not something that was actually directly offensive, though.]

I would just like to address the following to those who have a problem with me and with this thread in general.
  • Fore mostly, I am well aware that this "game", if you would call it that, still needs major improvements in many areas. I have never in my own posts bragged of how good the game is (or is not), and I understand that there are many inferior aspects to it that require future mending.
    -

  • Secondly, I would like to speak for the reasons why the first post to the thread is how it is - more of an advertisement format than that of a detailed synopsis.

When it comes to things like games, what people will ultimately experience is playing the actual game, rather than reading character descriptions to form a mental expectation for the characters. And often, the ideas perceived from reading a synopsis of some sort vs. actually seeing it in execution, are quite different. I understand that it would none the less be of some help for one to receive criticisms based on the synopsis; but its effect is far, far limited compared with if the critic were to criticize on what he/she experiences in the actual game instead, which is what actually matters for the game itself.

That is my personal belief, and hence the intentions for the format of my opening post - to attempt to make the reader try the actual game instead of spending time on one's ability to write a synopsis.
    -

  • Lastly, I do not have a criticism filter set up around the parameters here. I have always been very openly welcoming criticisms and the like, and I do not have my head buried in the sand of praises as some seem to think for whatever reason. When a thread grows to a certain size, some things cannot be helped - and I believe that I should not be held responsible for the expected skepticisms that arise from it.

Anyhow, that's that. I would really appreciate to not be the target of attempted provocation in the future - All I wish to do is to peacefully finish this project and remain drama-free. I hope you'd understand.

Thanks for your time. http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/forum/S ... smiley.gif[/img]

Well, what can you say? It is envy.

People that aren't popular around here get all depressed and see how well known you are and start to be total asses. I think the fact, that you openly welcome critique and change stuff proves how realistic you are about your projrct.

I will always support you!

I got beaten by the wolves... But I will keep on trying

Also Do you have the Lyrics to Drift (Prefomed by Laura Shigihara) I would like to learn iit to preform with my school band. It's really nice! I'll say that I got the Lyrics form you.

Many thanks for the support, Dalton. To be honest, the email itself was not exactly what one might think it is - it was just an attempt at toying with me and seeing whether my arrogance(?) is enough to make me blind. But really, it is more likely that it was just a little aftermath of a certain incident that's not related to the actual game itself.

All in all, it's not really that big of a deal. But I figured that there must be some who have some sort of misconception about my attitude here. When I see a big thread and whatnot somewhere, I can't help but become a little skeptical myself - it's only natural. c: I am attaching it to my sig for a short while just to get it cleared up to potential skeptics.

@windsaver:
Just remember to keep healing/sprint after the growl snaring effect and shoot a few powders back at them once a while. Here's a secret that might help: You only need to kill one of them for the battle to end.

As for the lyrics to Drift, here it is:
http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/images/Drift_QE.jpg[/img]

I'm okay with you playing it with your school band, although I'd ask ya to credit me/Quintessence the game for the song. c: Good luck with it, and have fun!

Edit: Oh, actually if you do end up playing it, it'd be quite cool if ya can get me a recording of it! Just curious, heheh.

Oh man, I really love that song. I can't wait until the new version of To Realize is out. These are totally going to be on my Ipod for ever XD

I still have to finish the lyrics for To Realize, heheh. Got the second half done, but still working on the first. c:

Edit: Content moved to next post.

Oh, nope. I've bothered her enough already, heheh. It's possibly going to be Arcanum, if he's still up for it. If not, I'll hold onto it until I can find someone, or maybe I'll do it myself? :p Most likely not.

[Just moving the update to this post from the last:]

Chapter 9
"The Awakening"

-Now in production.

http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/images/Q_Chapter9.jpg[/img]

Length: Approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour. (Subjected to change.)
Synopsis: . . .You wish. :p

This chapter will include game-play, via battles and possibly mini-games and the like. It is linear, and does continue from where Chapter 8 left off at. Primarily story oriented should go without saying by now.

As for the expected production time, I am not quite certain at the moment. However, it should be shorter than the previous few chapters, since I have just finished my last exam. Albeit the possibility of getting a summer job, I should still have more time to work on it than the last few releases. A little less than the chapter 7-8 release divide by two, probably - since I kind of held on to two of them last time.

I will be creating a Making of Chapter 9 thread in the Technical Discussion board in the near future. More details as I go will be posted there. ;)

Cheers~

Woot  Cheers for chapter IX production!

I like the title screen! Or cover... Or what we shall call it. And I am already exited how the title will fit into the chapter. I can't wait to see how this envolves even further.

How did the exam go by the way? I hope it was alright.

of course it went fine! he's asian!

@Reives: I was wondering what you used for those little squirrels and frogs, are those sprites or evented (squirrels climbing up a tree and frogs jumping from leaf to leaf)?
if they are sprites, are they publicaly available?

Wow, chapter 9 being announced already? Reives you are a workoholic(and I mean that in a good way ). I'm excited for this one since it will have more gameplay than the others. I think that alone could make it better than the previous chapters (although I'm not finished with Chpt. 8 yet :pissed:).

@lucid: I think they are evented--or the squirrels atleast. Here are some squirrels going up trees I found:

Sadly, I got this a while back and lost track of credit --however, I remember getting it from a large collection of resources... I'm sure someone on this site knows who these belong to.

D: I disgraace teh asian name >_> or maybe I'm just to asian x.x I feel terrible about haveing 3 B's X.x

anyways, yay! Chapter 9! XD

btw, are you going to say how many chapters your expecting to make?

Thanks Dalton. The chapter cover screen/title is somewhat of a spoiler to the plot, combined with a few other hints elsewhere. It might rather ambiguous though. And err. . . the exam actually did go fine. So, heh. :p

Those that I used are actually just recolours of the RTP, lucid. I'm not really sure whether you mean they are sprited or evented. . . They're just normal movement commands. c: The climbing tree one was actually just the normal up frame following a sharp turn, hence it might've given the illusion that something was different.

Thanks for helping linking those, Neverplayd. I am not 100% certain, but I'm rather sure those were edits released by Venetia - or at least she released ones with squirrels in those  positions too. Her thread in the Resources board has an assorted RTP styled resource package; you can download it to check for certain.

The total number of chapters is between 12 to 15; albeit not set in stone. There will be misc. releases after that though concerning the story, perhaps covering timeskips during the main story (e.g. the travel to and from Aeria), as they might give some nostalgia. And 3 Bs aren't really that bad for a lot of programs in university I think, even in "Asian terms" (I thought that stereotype was getting retro now :p).

I'm not sure if I missed this or not, but how many chapters will there be in total?  You are so productive!  Also, I agree with Dalton.  I think that PM was fueled by jealously.  We all know your effort and modesty are apparent throughout this thread; you are receptive to comments, you work really hard, and you have a really down-to-earth view of everything.  Keep up the good work!

@Monkeydlu: 3 B's aren't really that bad, especially in college.  Besides, universities don't care that much about freshman year anyway :)

What a fantastic story!  And this came from a book that you wrote?  I'm curious if you actually wrote out the whole novel, or if you just had general ideas and developed them into this game.  Anyways, just stopping by to say I really like your game!  The character development and music is really nice.  I think whoever wrote that PM was just jealous that they haven't made a game yet, haha.  I'll keep following this thread!

Aye, somewhere around there as # of chapters go. I used to believe that I would make sequels, but I am not quite sure anymore. I'll probably pass out for a couple of years from exhaustion when the first one finishes, anyhow. Anything's possible though, I suppose. :)

And thanks, Aida. The "novel" is unfinished, and takes on a slight different tangent from the story in the game. More specifically, it lacks the pure-fantasy aspects like in the intro of the game form. (Actually, the first version of this game traced the original written story a lot more closely.) It is about 100 pages and covers to somewhere near the end of chapter 3 (the actual expanded/written out parts, that is). But to be honest, it is rather badly written for the most part, as I was still in the process of learning English. I planning on editing/rewriting it sometimes when this is done, to make it presentable.  Glad ya enjoyed it!

I don't know if it's a mistake or not, but when I choose "Memories Past" in the title screen and then cancel, the game took me to another title screen with default "Begin" "Continue" "Exit"
When I click Begin, the whole game restart.
Don't know if anyone has already pointed this out or not, but if so, then I'm sorry for repeating that again.
