Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

Finally fixed the audio!!!

I'm playing right now.  So far, it's perfect.

Although, that horrible horse escape minigame that I could never beat before came back.  *cries*

It took me like 7 tries.  DX

@Zealex:
Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. c:

@Akura:
That's pretty cool, I'm curious to try it too now. Too bad I don't have it though, heheh. And thanks.

@Xephyr:
Nice, hope it wasn't too pricey if any at all. Wow, though; I didn't think that horse game was that difficult. ._o I even increased the "hp" from 50 to 60 this release. As Regi said, just make sure to remember to jump. Zig-zagging your way to mislead the guard helps a lot too.

I was replaying the new chapters over the weekend since I love them so much. I noticed something not important in any way. Just thought I'd say it.

During "Kaire's" little back story scene when the horse wagon is going through the woods and the wolves start chasing it and attacking the wagon, I thought it looks familiar.
It looks almost identical to a minigame I made not too long ago  :tongue:

It looked like this:

I guess we think some-what alike, huh?

Anyway, goodluck on all the future chapters! I can't wait for them!

Ah, that wagon mini-game looks interesting! I suppose wolf chasing down a wagon isn't really much of an original idea to begin with, heheh. How does the mini-game work? Do you actually get to steer the wagon?

Currently, while I am getting chapter 9 sorted out in my head, I will be fixing up bugs from the previous chapters from the list that have been compiled, thanks to everyone. Also, I will be resynching the ending video to the new version of Drift, the one performed by miss matcha. The intro/To Realize opening version is likely to be revamped to Arcanum's arrangement/performance as well.

I am also planning to revamp the game's normal grass ground tiles to an original one. I have come to the conclusion that it is one of the largest gains of the perception of originality when compared with the effort involved; since it is the one single tile that the player sees the most.

The home forum at quintessence-tbv.com has just received a smiley revamped, speaking of which - mainly thanks to legacyblade. It should bring more atmosphere to the place. http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/forum/S ... t/wink.gif[/img]

Well, most of the wagon steering is automatic, but you can choose which direction you want to go with the arrow keys if theres multiple paths.
If the wolf was on the blue squares, it will attack the wagon, if its on the green squares, it will be hit by the wheels and the wolf will be forced back a few tiles. If the wolf is on the red squares, you have a chance of hitting the 'z' key to shoot with the wolf with arrows from the wagon.

Ah, that sounds like a real cool mini-game. o: Kudos. Speaking of which, I like the colour scheme of that little screenshot from a few posts up. Haven't found your project thread though, guess I'll have to look around.

Ah, I see. Good luck with it then.

Oh, by the way guys, I am going to make a compilation track of clips from some of the game's BGMs as an soundtrack sample soon; something I should've done a long time ago. Any particular songs you think should be on it? Mp3(ogg) ones only, though. c: Not 100% certain that I will put all suggestions on, but they'll certainly be taken into consideration. Thanks for your time!

Hey, just dropping by to let you know I still exist and think your game is awesome  :thumb:

I'll probably be downloading the newest version of the game either this weekend, or, at the beginning of summer when I officially return to Game Designing.

The new screenshots are quite nice and Im looking forward to that soundtrack. I had to make a empty game with nothing but your music once so that I could listen to the songs via the designer as I have trouble playing OGG files, and those are all the best ones!

Oh heya, haven't seen you in a while.  :smile:  Hope everything's well.
And ah, you can play OGGs with WMP by downloading this codec.

I just finished putting together this little sample track of the OST:
http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/Quintessence_OST_Sample.mp3

It includes excerpts from the followings selections (in that order):

-Korbin Village [James Q. Zhang]
-Shrine of Osiris [James Q. Zhang]
-Beyond Mountain's Reach [James Q. Zhang]
-The Last Moonrise [Kan Gao]
-Battle Theme [James Q. Zhang]
-Once Upon a Midnight [Kan Gao]
-Kaire's Theme [Kan Gao]
-Where We Part [James Q. Zhang]

This should show what to expect from the OST to newcomers. http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/forum/S ... t/wink.gif[/img]

On a related topic, here's an update to the opening and ending themes (just a general recap, songs are the same as posted on last page).

The opening theme version of To Realize main theme will soon (most likely) be replaced by a slight variation of Arcanum's arrangement/performance: http://www.freewebtown.com/arcturis/To% ... 0Cover.mp3
(Arranged & Performed by Adam Mussell [Arcanum], base version composed by Kan Gao [Reives])

The ending theme, Drift, is to be replaced by the new performed version:
http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/Drift.mp3
(Sang by Laura Shigihara [miss matcha], composed by Kan Gao [Reives])

Many thanks to Adam and Laura for the help!

Well, I'm probably the last one to finish your new chapters, (Ok, I didn't finish it... But I would like to think that I am pretty far into it) and I really like them; especially the haunted cave part. The game crashed when I tried to open the menu in white tiger form --seems your missing the tiger face pic-- so I didn't get to finish Chpt. 8, unfortunately. I plan on finishing it this weekend. I'd suggest changing Arcs to Books so it goes along with Chapters.

Thanks. And wait a minute, white tiger form. . . ? You were able to transform into the tiger after you got the hair by pressing Z? http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/forum/S ... lt/huh.gif[/img] Transformation was supposed to be disabled once you arrive at the carnival. . . How strange.

Could ya give me the details of what happened; did you just get the tiger hair and press Z and the window pops up? Thanks for your time!

I just listened to Arcanum's arrangement/performance and I wanted to say that I think he did a great job with it!  I especially liked the guitar at the end.  What a cool community, where people can can show respect for each other's work by creating things like that :)

And I think the sample OST is a great idea.  There's actually a fair number of people out there who check out games because of their music (myself being one of them).

@Monkey:
Thanks. I am very grateful for miss matcha and Arcanum's performances, they're just wonderful. c:

@miss matcha:
Heheh, I remember him saying that the part was rather difficult to play, too. It was pretty cool that he managed to pull it off well. Hope the sample compilation is a good reflection of the OST itself!

@lucid:
That really depends on the type of song, I suppose. I might be somewhat of a slow worker, so it usually takes a minimum of 3 hours, often much much more as I sit there and stare at it to try to polish. Some music background will definitely help; having access to a piano or keyboard works wonders too. I suggest you starting with learning some cliche chord progressions and work from there. That way, you can start by making good sounding things, which will give ya some more incentives to continue.

@Helladen:
Thanks for your time!

Just out of boredom, I dusted up a little new banner:

-from my cheesy drawing from a while back. Maybe I'll have more time to draw a few more things when summer starts in a few days. :>
