I just completed chapter 7 and 8
Oh my god...
that was amazing!
I totally wasn't expecting "Petal"...not to even be Petal!
and when I saw the wolf, I thought it might be the thief at first...
but Serai?? That surprised me

R.I.P Kaire...or..petal..or whatever her real name is!

Oh...and the new music sounds great too!
 
NOOOOOOOOOO!

Last night, my computer screwed up and for some reason it says no audio device in my computer and everything and i can't hear sound.

QUINTESSENCE WITHOUT MUSIC IS NOT QUINTESSENCE

so i have to wait to fix my computer before i can play this, and i dont know how to fix it!

anyone know how to fix it?  IM GONNA DIE

You probably need to reinstall your audio device (speakers) driver or other software. Or maybe your speakers are either broken or unplugged (or have damaged plugs). Also, you should put your question in the tech support board, it'll get more answers.

my speakers are plugged in and everything. they work fine, and ive uninstalled and reinsalled TWO speakers, not just one.

to the tech support board!

Was that supposed to be the credits? Or was there something after that? I got lazy and quit after getting the message "Press Esc to Quit", but I hope I didn't miss anything because the music kept playing after that.

Also, I'm curious as to how you did the winter maps. Did you completely remake them, or use a "change tileset" script?

I hope the ending to Chap 8 was at least somewhat touching. I don't really know, since I know the story before-hand. :x

And ah Regimos, that scrolling credit thingy was it. :p Mainly the music; I added a To Realize verse to open an arranged version of James' Where We Part theme. That song's probably my favourite in the soundtrack so far.

The Winter tilesets are separate maps, so it's not a script. If you are referring to the place where it scrolls up, winter-ize, scrolls down; that's just a normal transition to the same spot without fade. :'>

Edit: Oh, as for that Haunted Caves; I had a lot of fun writing that BGM. :tongue2: I don't think it was scary, since it's more or less a build up to a kidding moment. Imagination might get ya somewhere though. :p
 
Absolutely phenomenal job on the latest two chapters Reives, well done.

Personally I felt like the story in the latest two chapters was fairly predictable, but the cinematics and music are so well done it doesn't matter. I didn't need to be surprised or shocked to feel a rush of emotion, and that's what a story is supposed to do.

Bravo.

Even the flow of the story becomes slower, Chap7 and 8 are still so enjoyable. In my opinion, chapter 8 is the best in the series, by far ^^
Anyway, I found some bugs. Small ones, but one of them is quite annoying, though :-< I couldnt remember all I found, only some in the winter carnival. Here they are, anyway.

The nearby tree was cut off. This is in the place you exchange tokens for prices ^^

The tree is in the higher part of the cliff, but if you get behind it, you will be in the lower part :-/

Other thing, when I play Hammer time, the easy level, I didnt have to pay a single coin, even though the owner asked for 10 coins. Weird, huh :D?
And, last but not least, I dont remember exactly where, but maybe when you remove the character out and then later add them in, you check "Initialize", so well, all my characters are back at level 1 -____-

I was a little hesitant about predictability about some obvious events, but thought that it might be a good to have everything lead up to it as opposed to a sudden event out of no where for this time. Glad the execution made up for it; these two chapters probably have the most executional effort put to it for cut-scenes. :'>

Chapter 8, the near-end of it at least, is one of my favourite things yet too. And ah, thanks for the bug reports! They're compiling up now, and I'll go and fix them up in the near future. That timer thing was a total surprise; I completely forgot about it, heheh. It was due to something from Chapter 4 that shares the same map.

The home forum should be revamped with custom character smileys in the near future, feel free to drop by. :>

Did anyone get as high as 80% on the advanced mallet mini-game or 95% on the easy one, by the way? I myself couldn't, heh.
 
I just wanted to say, it's really awesome that you are so devoted to your project.  There are so few games that near completion (even in the indie community as a whole), so good job for putting in the time and effort.  I'm going to download the package and play it from the beginning so I can see the new changes. 

Is your most recent link free of the game-stopping bug?  I want to make sure I get the full uninterrupted experience :)
 
Yeah, the last ones always seem to pop up when the timer stops, I don't see how you can get them unless they appear right under your hammer.

Thanks! As of now, I've spent quite a chunk of my life on this anyhow, so there's no point in giving up anymore. On the worst days, I just treat it as work, heh. I really do have to thank all the players for it too, really; their feedback and enthusiasm really carried me a long way as well. :'>

The most recent link should be free of crashing glitches. There was a very silly one in the earlier version due to me going back and fixing something while breaking another, but now I am 87.21% sure that it is fine. If you've played the earlier chapter before, though, only the intro is worth replaying through. The changes in the other parts a quite minor and not worth the hassle.  :smile:

Heheh, that's awesome. And aye, it really is a case where you have to get a perfect record plus good luck, since there's nothing you can do about the ones that pop up last.

I should've really done something about that, heheh - kinda just ran out of time. I suppose the longer the game is, the less impact those last few has.
 
OMG ! ... you get better & better with every new chapter, I loved the last 2 chapters ... I liked chapter 8 more than 7 but so far chapter 6 is my favourite.

btw the hammer time game was awesome ... once i got used to it i could have over 95% most of the time with the normal mode ... but the hasty mode i got over 80% like 60% of the time xD.

The haunted house was a great experience ... & i liked the new battle system also.

I know already said this before but honestly ... your story would make a great movie [I want a Trilogy! xD].
 
Just finished 7 and 8.  I'm gonna go cry buckets in a dark corner now you mean mean evil human being.  T.T T.T T.T T.T
Even if I saw a couple things Petal related coming miles away...it was still depressing T.T  Okay, the Serai thing at the end...was a shocker.  n.n

And on another note.........Is chapter 9 ready yet?  *stray steam roller hits Makio*

Oh and Vikon's new face is full of win.  So maybe I'll find it in my heart to forgive you for that reason.  :tongue2:
