It's actually fairly logical. Those look to me like water lilies that have some snow on them.
Admittedly, you'd have to find some kind of fantasy water lily that could stand subzero temperatures, but still, it's within the realm of the possible.

But Chapter VII is almost complete! I am one short scene away from its end, although there are some things to fix up in the middle, like some npc dialogues, etc. If things go well, it may be released in a week, and if they don't, probably two weeks at most.  :smile:

Aye, I did intend them to be lilypads, but those were the old days and I should've fixed them up now. The main problem with using it that way is that they appear on ground as well, so it's not that consistent. Mm, I'll see I suppose.
 
oh my goodness. its so exciting to see that you are still working on this game. so many people give up. I took a little break from rmxp but now that i've stopped in I'll have to download this once the 7th chap. comes out. It's nice to come back and find more chapters to play =) kudos to you and this great game. ^_^ I haven't play  ed any rmxp games as of late cause I am too busy but this one is definitely worth the time imo!  :wink:
 
Oh hey Crunk, I remember you!  :smile: Glad to see ya back. And aye, the honeymoon period of making has been long over, but I guess I'm just grinding it out - no point in stopping now, heheh.

Just a sidenote: This chapter will contain at least 5-6 new songs to be added to the track. Due to time constraint, I will probably not be able to insert playable content into chapter one this round, but I will still try to fix the earlier chapters up to be more professional overall.

That makes me trebely excited, if that is possible.
And it's a shame about Vikon missing good ol' april fools...

Are the songs composed by you, or my James?

I have almost finished primary betaing now, and surprisingly, this chapter is actually quite long - about 2 to 2.5 hours in length. I guess the matching abnormally long production time did pay off after all.

Now, I need some help, if any one would be kindly interested:

I am looking for one person to help with playing through Chapter 7 before its official release this weekend. This special early copy will be ready in the next couple of days. You won't need to take notes like a serious beta-tester or anything; but rather just play through it and tell me what you think in general.

However, I just need one person to help with it. So, if you are kindly interested, here's how this works.

Looking through the screenshots and videos so far, this game looks really interesting. I'm new to this game so I guess I should wait until the new package comes Hope you update the new demo soon. Can't wait to play

Surprise surprise! This weekend, not one, but two chapters will be released;

Chapter VII: Savior

. . . Okay, the truth is that I just separated each of the two parts of the original Chapter VII into a separate chapter in itself; it made sense to do so as far as segmentation goes. Even after the separation, each of these two chapters is still over an hour long. Combined, we are looking at around 2 and a half hours-ish, maybe a little less.

Will this be the best double-chapter package released yet? Considering that the only other double-chapter package released so far is the crappy chapter 2-3 bundle; yes it will be. But at this moment I am not actually too sure whether it will exceed Chapter 6 in terms of general rating, since they're quite contrasted in scenario. Either way, I believe that it is at least on-par with 6.

A preview copy of the preliminary version of Chapter 7-8 package is now uploaded for the lottery-draw winner to go through (thanks to all for participating, by the way! I didn't expect as many shows. :>). Official public version will be released either this Friday or Saturday; most likely Saturday. On that day, the forum's smileys will also be updated to custom characters'.

[As far as revamping the older chapters go; there have been some enhancement (especially in the intro), but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. For example, I did not get to revamp the Korbin village's map aside from taking away some cluttered obstacles, but Korbin woods' map was majorly redone. In addition, a new area is accessable even from earlier chapters, east of Korbin village. Dialogues in the earlier parts are retouched here and there, but I did not get the time to redo as I hoped for.)

As far as mood go, these two chapters has probably the most varied range of them all so far. They also have a bit of everything; some of my favourite sub-stories, some battles, mini-games and flashy scenes - And that's pretty rare in the history of past chapters.

I don't want to give away any spoilers. However, the person who had the lucky pick to get the preliminary release file might drop by some impressions when he finishes, if he wants to - without spoilers of course.

Either way, it's in the near future, so not much of a wait 'till it's publicly released. :smile:
 
Im looking forward to the new chapters. 1 new chapter of Quintessence is exciting enough...
but 2 new ones? I can't wait.

Chapter 7 and 8, in my opinion, are certainly higher quality than Chapter 5 (and hence chapter 1-4). However, it is difficult to compare with Chapter 6 due to the contrast in scenario. Compared with 6, 7 and 8 are somewhat "calm after a storm before another storm" or whatnot.

None the less, it has some of my favourite things in the series so far. Favourite cut-scene, favourite sub-story near the end of Chapter 8, and my favourite song composed by James Q. Zhang (also at the end of C8). Speaking of which, there is something extra after the Ending Music Video after the end of C8 this time; so don't exit right away!

The chapter also contains at least 7 new tracks added to the original soundtrack. [Also, while not included in this release, the ending theme Drift is to be performed by the extremely talented miss matcha (Laura Shigihara) in the near future. So look out for that, and check out her project with some of the coolest original BGMs around here!]

I apologize about the large size of this release; it is unavoidable as things build up. The entire game-play time is now approximately 7-8 hours. In the future, I will make audio-free releases, sparing the repetitive audio size.

This release also contains some revamping of earlier content; but sadly, due to time constraint, only intro was notably improved. Other things, such as in Chapter 1-4, have been slightly revamped in parts, but not nearly enough as I had hoped and needed to keep in par with the newer releases. Chapter 2 is still quite the drowner.

None the less, it might be a good idea to replay just the intro part to see the changes. Some of which is valuable to the plot and foreshadowing of future events. [From intro up to the beginning of Chapter I.]

Forgot to mention: All the main characters have had their sprites somewhat revamped to add an original touch. Reivier is the least touched one I believe; only slightly edited his front ones. But others, like Serai, are completely redone. I just redid Lunair's anew this morning as well.

Many thanks to Lunarea and Euphony for the graphical works! These include some new sprites and tileset in the beginning of the intro. :'>
