Got a lost dog home. Or at least to it's next-door neighbor who was pretty sure it belongs there. They're suppose to have 2 dogs and only had 1, so. And they just moved in recently and nobody has a contact number, but the neighbors were willing to hold the dog for a while. I'll check in later. But man. Lost pets give me anxiety. Introducing myself to strangers gives me anxiety.
Taking it to a shelter to scan for a chip would have been out of the way. I was pretty certain it must live nearby.
Crisis averted, but I can't shake the feeling that I did something wrong. Or should have done something different. I hope I didn't stress it out too much by loading it into the car.

Yeah I now have to work on Minecraft from home for a bit and my flights to the UK have been shuffled around as other passengers cancel their flights.

My sister told me at the airport they were boarding a plane and they announced "Disneyland is closed" and people groaned and got off. Apparently that's where they were going.
Then there was a bunch of students from Hawaii that were heading towards a convention in Washington I think, but they canceled it. It's like, those tickets weren't cheap!
The March Madness Basketball Tournament is now called March Sadness because the NCAA canceled everything.

As a bit of a nostalgia trip and also a bit of a legitimate attempt to make Skyrim in RPG Maker i've been messing around with RPG Maker XP (my favorite RPG Maker) and I've realized one thing.

This shit is horribly optimized.

i tried making a test map without any additional scripts aside from anti-lag scripts and it seems like as soon as you pass 15-20 events in a map the frame rate stutters more than my autistic cousin.

I have (what I feel like is) a really great concept for a RPG Maker style game but I need to find a good engine to create it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The only other program I'm really familiar with is Gamemaker but I've never tried to make an RPG with it.

I also want to learn some actual coding skills. Been thinking about maybe skillshare or something of that nature.

I have major issues with graphics; doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist. So when I can't get it the way I want, I'm hit with this massive urge to jump ship...

So right now I'm designing some of the systems for a new game... >_<

Does anyone have any suggestions? The only other program I'm really familiar with is Gamemaker but I've never tried to make an RPG with it.

I also want to learn some actual coding skills. Been thinking about maybe skillshare or something of that nature.

GameMaker can do that for you, what with their GML coding language. Some popular indie games have been made in Gamer Maker too.

If you're concerned about performance, then maybe Unity will be better. I'm not familiar with it though; probably could put out the best performance out the lot I've listed.

I will bat for Construct's corner though, as I'm very familiar with it. It makes 2D HTML5 games (so you can easily push previews to mobile if you want). The code editor is visual / drag-n-drop, but you still deal with logic (if statements, functions, etc). It also has a robust Debug mode where you can inspect /change variables at runtime. A nice thing about it, it has some built-in behaviours such as Line of Sight, Pathfinding and 8-Directional movement. You can also download & install new Behaviours that people have made (which you could make too, if you learned Java).

The software has 2 versions; Construct 3 (subscription, browser-based, new features & optimized) and Construct 2 (one-time payment, recently they announced they'll be retiring Construct 2). Both can be tried for free, with albeit strong restrictions.

I work checkouts, and with the whole panic buying, we've been busier than we are around Christmas (by far), and I'm frazzled. I am thinking of trying some Old School Runescape, and do it as a perma-F2P. Right now I just can't afford the sub for RS3, which as F2P I would say is more limited than OSRS (outside of skilling).

Yeah, no joke. It's in the US. I don't know how widespread it is. Gun-related subreddits are now getting smugger than usual toward all the gun-control supporters who said things like "Why do you need a gun? That's what the police are for!"
