My best friend/brothers girlfriend's sister just died. Shes had cancer for two years. I don't even know what the fuck to say or do... My friend is up in London with her family...

Don't need to say anything, just make sure nothing is in her way to stress her out or upset her. If she's with family, then she'll be fine without people sending messages, being alone with just family for the time being.

Cheers. Pretty solid advice. We've cleaned the house and I've been contacting my bro throughout the day. They'll be back in the morning. She's taking this month off work. This shits so tough I can't even comprehend the pain she must be feeling.

Someone on my Twitter shared a rather stupid post.

They are banning donated books in Pa prisons and forcing incarcerated people to use price gouging ebook readers. Across the country, in-person visits are being replaced with video chats. The tech industry has to answer for what it is doing to people in prisons.

What the fuck does this person want Amazon to do? Add GPS chips to all their Kindles that ban them from being used within 100 yards of a United States prison?

They replied later with:

Yeah of course there's fucking a lot going on here. Primarily it's that the US prison system is a horrible, for-profit, modern day slavery industry that does its best to suck every penny out of the inmates so - if they ever get released - they're homeless or committing crime once more to survive.

Banning books in prisons is incredibly evil, in my personal opinion, but fuck me start a witch hunt against the "tech industry" because your prison system sucks?

I'm a biiiig believer in the importance of ethics in tech, but there is a point where it's out of your hands. Let's make ethical tech, but if someone decides to use a self-driving car to carry dangerous weapons to sell to orphans then what the fuck can the car do about it?
Now, if there's a contract that Amazon has to sell discount Kindles to prisons (to sell onto prisoners who then have to buy ebooks) then that's fucking evil - blame Amazon, not the bloody Kindle.

I get that it's very fashionable for sheep who really find it difficult to think for themselves to go after the "tech industry" right now - especially with Torvalds on his 2nd leave of absence being big news (and apparently his reason is "a mystery" for anyone who hasn't fucking read his mailing list - I've literally seen someone suggest he must have groped someone, fucking read and do research jeeeezuz kriiiist) but blaming the entire tech industry for a use-case that's out of technology's control is just fucking stupid.
Only way the tech industry can solve this one is to stop selling anything at all, call it quits because the US prison system ruined it for the entire planet by being even more evil than it already is.

Decided to bite the bullet and spend a day hacking the holy hell out of the Android operating system to see if a technical implementation I want to do is possible. I got 99% of the way there, it was working for all the test cases, but for the actual use case I need it...Nothing.

I was surprised that my tests even worked. I tried fiddling about with all sorts of shit just to get anything working for my use case. Zero. No idea why it won't work when the tests do.

To add insult to injury, fiddling about for the use case broke all the tests. At least I proved my hacking methodology, so I got the tools and knowledge to get back in the ring for round 2. I wish Android was a better designed platform. What I'm trying to attack is the fact that any off-screen rendering needs to be in software, disables all the excellent hardware acceleration features - so I'm trying to spoof the entire blimming window system of Android just to have hardware acceleration not turn itself off.

EDIT: HOLY FUCKING SHIT GOT IT WORKING. I am pretty awesome.

That's exactly how I spent both days of my weekend.

When I'm working on something I either listen to sad, melancholic piano music or the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack - today and yesterday it was sad piano music.

Not visited here in a while, been super busy... as of today I'm a homeowner, lol.

Well, I mean, we looked at the house yesterday, put a bid in that was declined, not bothered since we low balled it anyway to be cheeky, but the guy said the lowest he'd go was £5k lower than the asking price, so we were like sure we'll do that, got a reply today saying he'd accepted the offer, so yay us... can't move in for like, maybe six weeks though, lol
