Dr Pepper was my addiction for my school days. I was drinking liter bottles every day. I'm not over exaggerating either.
It's the reason I have a heart murmur (Which could maybe be sign of deeper heart conditions, but due to fuckups that happened when I went for my test they never found out if it was more serious, and by now y'all should know my relationship with going to the doctor: I don't) and I guess if what you said is true about the cancer stuff I must just be a ball of cancer!
But yeah, I do not suggest drinking as much as I used to at all. I think a smaller bottle every now and then (Like, 2 a week or so) is fine, but if you want to preserve your health, don't drink it at all!
I still occasionally drink a bottle of Dr Pep, but I stick mostly to coffee. I have mine really milky though. As in, I fill a cup of milk and stick it in the microwave for 2 minutes. I have one every morning and one when I come home. Fruit juices are cool too! I love Rubicon, but shit's expensive!
