Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Potion, it's good that you're not pillow shading, but I think you went overboard with the light source thing. It would look better if you simplified the shading and picked out highlight areas. Also, add an outline; it's very important against a background. Pretty nice, though!

I'm working on this:

Revisiting a old idea with this wip. I know the bottom needs detail, but I don't know how to go about doing a nice, but subtle, wood-grain effect. Any advice would be lovely <3

Here are some sprites I recently finished for the region of my Pokemon rom hack, MysticAurelian. These are Junnin's obligatory early rodent and bird Pokemon, Chinchul and Chiquail respectively.

Credit of Chiquail and Chinchul goes to the dA fakemon artist MagesPages.

Awesome Bro

The squirrel things at the bottom, the arm/elbow thingy part is way too straight, it was the first thing I noticed when I looked at your post, lol, try to curve it a little.

I actually based this off of some artwork (which is the source of my project's inspiration) but I really don't like the way Chinchul came out, so thanks for the input guys.

hey everyone! i have a concept for a video game i would like to produce. i have a hero and his name is buddy. i was going for a casual male for an adventure game. it will be simple so i wanted to go for a simple design. c&c are welcome!

It looks good but you need to make the outlines/edges more clear, for they look like their blending in too much.

More early Pokemon. The region's dog versions of Nidoran (Aromutts, male on left) and the region's electric rodent, Baybolt.

Note, while Baybolt is from scratch, both Aromutts are heavy edits made from existing dA sprites (godofthat for the male Aromutt sprite, and poke-7 for the female Aromutt sprite).

thanks for the input. i'd like to have the edges pop a little more but i don't want it to look like a coloring book. any way to do this without the whole outline black?

i went over the outlines a bit and changed a few pixels here and there. he is a horticulturist. i think hes looking pretty good. still have to paint a side and 3/4.

Take a look at my own sprites, like open them up in paint.net or mspaint and zoom in to 800%. While 50% or so of my outlines are dark colors matching their areas, some outlines are pure black. This is done to distinguish between areas, especially perspective wise.

Hey man, that's pretty good to me. Are you going to have to do other directions and animations etc?

thanks amy. i worked on him a little more before bed last night. next up is the 3/4 view. i do have to animate amy ;)
i haven't animated anything since college but i'll give it a try. any pointers for characters? this is my first time making sprites.

What do you guys think of this extremely stylized pixel art?

I purposely made the head big to emphasize her cuteness. But yeah...

Sometimes I love pixel art more than digital coloring, but I often get frustrated and quit pixeling halfway through. D=
