So it's been like 4 years since i've sprited i think. Got the fever back now and decided to give it a try again -

Please crit this into the ground, pick it back up, and crit it again until there's nothing left but a few miscellaneous pixels.
It's been too long and i feel like i've lost my edge (if i had one to begin with). This took me almost all weekend lol
 
Dreg I've not seen HK sprites being used for ages :biggrin: I've just shut my programs down for the night now but from the full size it doesn't appear to have any massive issues, nice work.

Progress on my tileset, work to date. Please do not build upon or modify, give me time and I will be releasing these if people approve of how they look and work :kiss:
 
Your tiles look fine to me, although the cliff/rock tile's bothering me.
In the cliff ends, where it touches the floor, it seems like it doesn't blend with
the grass. You should try some little aliasing or highlight/outline slightly the grass in the part where
it touches the floor.

Made this one yesterday.
Tried to see what I can do by spriting people.
Used light colors. I fear it has pillow-shading, but that's what I get
for spriting too much in Mario and Luigi style.

Ah okay, previously I've tried such things and it looks like the rocks/cliffs are over the top of the grass and not the effect of the curve upwards from grass to rock. I'll certainly try to use the darker colour I've used from the grass ending (the darkest green before purple) to nip the grass in and add something to it.

Could you edit with imgzoom please? I've closed everything down but I'd love to repay the C&C with a closer look.

Yeah just like a closer look at your characters, I've not seen many character sprites that have details and realistic focus within the face.
 
Holder: Imo i think that the grass might be too saturated and it seems as if the grass doesnt match the cliffs

also the RTP doesnt fit either but I think you are changing that~

The cliffs need to cast some sort of shadow on the floor infront of them, only a small one but it looks pretty weird without, either that or maybe it's to do with the grass like bacon said, not too sure, but it looks odd with them together.

Awesomes. Thank you Holder! I'm not a professional so my opinion probably means nothing, but can't find anything that bugs me about your tiles.

I've always loved the detail that can be put on the HK sprites. Tried making my own templates that size a while back and they were okay, but they lacked something. Probably just the ShowKaizer touch I guess...

Quick image from the alternative one I've been working on for my own project, now only the grass is a different colour and the shaded area is set-up for the water.
I've also included the darker colour at the base of the cliffs for the grass transition.

I see you darkened the floors according to their height, but you missed to do that with the grass, which makes it
look odd. Other than that it looks really good.
 
You mean the section in the bottom left? That was what I meant when I said the shaded part, it was the set up for the water :smile:

finally!!! a planet namek tileset!!! :ditto:
 
Something I threw together the other day, just looking to get some C&C on it ^__^ I haven't sprited in god knows how long so there's bound to be some mistakes. I did the hair and helmet in like 3 minutes just to complete the character, I'm more so looking for comments on the template and the armor ^_^



edit: Btw, while doing the example I realized that the legs on the template are too far apart so I fixed them on the example, just haven't edited the change on to the template itself yet :]
 
Looking pretty cool, Panda! I think the hands look a bit bubble-like. Good catch on the legs. Armor looks cool, but you could use more bounce light on the helmet to make it look more metallic.

I'm redoing the lady in my avatar because her current portrait is completely wrong.

Bottom half of the hair still isn't done, of course. I'll probably lighten the outline but haven't decided on a background yet.
