Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Trying to get shapes/posture right before I move on and start trying to animate it and then ultimately shade it but damn, pixel art is hard for me.
The clothes look great so far. :) As far as posture goes, I suggest slouching her shoulders a little - she's a human not a robot. Now onto the rest: her legs and arms look like toothpicks compared to her torso. Either thicken her limbs, or shrink her torso a bit. Her head looks small and round, too. Make her head a little more oval-shaped and, as with the limbs, either enlarge her head or, again, shrink the torso.

Awesome, thanks for the crit. It helped a lot. I've been staring at pixels for hours now, and they're all starting to blend together.

Does it look any better now? I couldn't find a way to beef up the arms without them looking odd(although they do look too short now), but I worked on the legs and head.

edit: started walk cycle.... losing will to live

Looking better, Moe. I think the feet should be pointing forward, instead of outward like you have them. Nice start on the animation, too. The knees look a little weird, though, what with the single pixel.

I should probably just start a new topic soon before I spam up this thread, but until then, here's an attempt at shading (oldest-newest left-right obv)

Yeah, even in the newest shaded version it looks really odd. And yet, she looks like Gumby when I don't emphasize the knee. :mystery:

Honestly I like the first ones legs the best. Maybe removing the knee pixel will help? Adding the knee pixel would be good when she bends her legs though.

Awesome Bro

Shading on the last one looks tons better, however, why does her entire face look bruised? I think you overdid it a tad, you only need a shadow on her face where her hairline is, otherwise it looks odd and pillowshaded if you do it all the way around.

I did a quick 10 minute icon and I think I got most of the bugs I could find but it still needs something... Any help? (Moe's person is prettier then my plant)

Thank you and have a nice day!

I can think of quite a few areas that need work (mostly her right arm), but I give up for a while. |D

Is it sad that I had to keep looking back at some of my old concept art for her, considering I designed her myself? LOL.

First of all, good job on taking on such a challenge! :) However, you got some major issues with your sprite.
Don't worry though, that's why we're here: to help each other and improve... anyway let's get started.
Your tree's leaves are scattered all over the place (maybe I am overexaggerating a bit :P) and aren't arranged in a way that makes sense, it looks like there are some leaves scattered on a floor...
The trunk needs some work too, especially the shape.
On another note the whole thing looks flat: you need more contrast to give your tree a good shape and you need more contrast so it won't look flat.
I have found a great thread with progress shots on spriting a tree, I heavily recommend you to give it a look ;o

Anyway, I've got something for you guys too, started workin on this little guy, its still a bit "raw" but i like where this is going:

That's a very pretty sprite. The coloring is all soft and squishy. Although it makes the dark outlines around her crotch stand out a lot.

@ Rin: You mean the purple outline on the crotch's skirt flap-things ? Yeah, I know. That's one of the things I noticed that needed work. d:
@ Twirly: I like the first one better, too.
