Notes On Pulling The Sky Down

OO thanks Kieara! It's amazing, I love it :D:D:D

Haha nah Xcuma its just saying your an active and enthusiastic member, even though you do have a habit of mentioning your own project a little to much :P

Thanks Meticlan and G-man! At the moment I'm trying to map a huge city, and I can't get it quite how I want. It is taking up a lot of time. Hope it's worth it. I should fly through the interiors though.

No Problem ^^; She's a slight WIP, I have to clean her up a bit and I'm trying a way to add Bryce into the pic. Either by shadow or bird's eye view, of him looking down at her, or something along those lines. No promises because I'm not great at perspectives -_-. I'm kinda just going on a whim, but if there is anything you want specifically just mention it.

Oh ok ^^

Actually I think it would be a tad more usefull if you don't have Bryce in the picture :P Because when she washes up she actually doesn't know Bryce at that point hehe. A shadow of a guy would be accurate though. I'm just thinking I can use it as an introduction to the first chapter or something similar so I can work it in-game.

Me and you have spoken quite a bit about NoPtSD, over instant messenger. I hope my graphic art stuff helped plan out something for you. I was very busy yesterday and will try to think of more things to do with your titlescreen. I think I may look on the net and get you some pictures to use.
~Axerax~

P.S. I wanna be on the Honour Roll :P

Lol, but I do provide him insightful wisdom from the vast amount of knowledge... most of which is useless, but the knowledge I do have has helped him some :P

Stealing is bad :P
It looks like use 4 have started a little friendship chain, we should try to support eachothers projects :)
~Axerax~

Hey! Love the windowskin and the mapping is great! This has really really really high potential. As long as it has a playable plot it could be a really great game. The characters have great depth and I love the faces. Good job, keep working on it.

Axerax up till now I've been able to work out photoshop as I go along, but now what I'm trying to do is quite a bit more advanced, so I am struggeling a bit.

I'm willing to help any of you out, if you need it, and if I can. Xcuma, stealing is bad :P

Thanks itachi-hime, but what do you mean by "playable plot"? I think you will like it.

I thought I would give you a little taste of the world this takes place in. I am trying to stay away from traditional fanatsy (elves, goblins etc) because I think it takes the games unique atmosphere away. So here are some races and places found in Notes On Pulling The Sky Down:

Kitsune

Kitsune are a race of humans with fox like attributes, such as ears and a tail, and thus they are both strange and beautiful to look upon. They are deeply ingrained in many mythologies of the world. Their race is also steeped in magic, becoming a fascination, mystery and wonder for many humans. These days they are rarely sighed and prefer seclusion. Most are noble, wise and gracious in their own strange way, but some turn into tricksters, haunting men. Being so close to the fox they can transform into one at will.

Ponble/Ponbear

Resembling a miniature bear these creatures are universally seen as adorable my humans. Despite this, they are an eccentric race, and most humans would be shocked to find out truths about culture. Very few humans truly understand them, and even fewer can understand their strange language. Because of their high intelligence, work ethic, and their attractive looks they integrate into human society very easily. Most often found in large cities.

Rakshas

A humanoid reptilian race. Because of their appearance and strength they are said to be lacking in intelligence. This is not true, they are very similar to humans. Any rumours of them being sinister are also false. Some of the human population are unpleasant, and it is the same with the Rakshas. They integrate into human society well in places where they are accepted. In most major cities Saracens are not a rare site, but some villages may be shocked to see them.

I know these may seem similar to other common fantasy races, but I have gone and given each an original backstory. The races also play a role in the main story, especially the Ponbears. Well, you will have to wait for the game.

-Hima is drawing up concepts for these ^^

Lunar Snowfields

Many years ago a star fell from the sky and crashed into the Lunar Snowfields leaving a massive crater. Not even the harsh conditions could stop travels from coming to visit the famous place. In fact there was so many people wanting to visit the site regarded as holy by many that a nearby village was built.

Howling Woods

A forest surrounded by much mystery and fear. The look of the forest is enough to deter most travels from entering, but the real fear comes from the stories. Stories of people entering the forest, never to seen again. Stories of monsters howling in rage from deep within. Stranger things are heard still. There are whispers of a village in the middle of the forest. Who could possibly live there?

Port Arkade

One of the biggest cities in Era. It serves as a huge trading hub with people coming from all over to buy or sell goods. Most races can be spotted here

Parro
A city known for its pubs, brothels and shady weapon dealers. Viewed by many as a blight on the land, it nevertheless manages to attract a large number of mark hunters. Bryce and Skye seem disgusted by it, but surprisingly (or not) Diego doesn?t seem to mind it.

Ghana Plains

Home of the legendary Sleeping Statues that have caused awe and inspiration throughout the ages. These rocky plains are covered in lush green vegetation everywhere, and are a welcomed site to many travellers because of their beaty.

Sandfall

Full of many sand rivers and (as the name suggests) sand falls, this desert contains hidden beauty. Among the harsh sands are countless beautiful oases (apparently that?s the plural for oasis). In the middle of the desert is a large Rakshas village, but in order to reach it you will have to pass the many illusions that haunt this place.

Ara Temple

A grand city within which the largest and most famous religious temple of the land lies. Worship by many religious many faithful people travel here very year to pray.

As you can see each place has an importance and backstory. Hopefully it makes things more interesting than just some random towns with an inn, a few npcs and shops.

Opinions?

Thanks!

I hope the races and places of interest don't make the game seem generic. Like I said his game has a unique atmosphere, and pure fantasy seems to mess with it. I think it will all work out when people play the game, and people see the story. Now to stop saying that so expectations don't get too high :P

I like the Races/Locations text you posted. While light (which is fine), it does help to paint a picture of what the world of your game will be like.

I don't really have anything to say about the Races text, as it seems fairly standard; that is nothing jumps out, at least to me. However, I'd be interested to see how you have/will use(d) them in the game.

The list of places is interesting. I'd love to see some concept art of the landscapes, too. The locations are more than (like you said) just some random towns. And, the names are also pretty good. Maybe a revision or two, but, for the most part, they sound fine.

Also, Kraft is assembling some sand-tileset resources, which you may be interested in (I made the sand-river and sandfall, possibly more to come later).

Keep it up! :thumb:

I love the fantasy idea, it gets on my nerves when people say "this isn't realistic." Uh isn't that what you play rpgs for? Just to get away from reality? So why would you want something to be realistic in the first place?

Says the person adamant about not having any fantasy elements in his game :p

:D
