Notes On Pulling The Sky Down

I agree Notes on pulling the sky down is a unique and bold name for an Rmxp project, but you can't have a dynamic name without a dynamic game, and I trust you won't let us down in that area?

This project's title is enough to spark interest. I also would like to see a demo of some sort. Though, I think you should get rid of the line: "An epic story-driven experiance with memorable characters and a captivating fantasy world." especially if it is YOU saying that. Having things told to me like that makes me want to not play it because it makes you sound very immature.

Good luck on this! I would love to see a demo sometime!

Eh sorry you feel that way, I'll remove it. Maybe its for the best. Its funny before I completely re-worked my project thread I poked fun of people who did that. At least I'm not advertising 1000+ NPCs as a feature. :P

G-man. Everyone. Don't expect a revolutionary and innovative RPG here. Won't happen. I just hope to deliver a solid and enjoyable experience with a good story line. Preferably with just a few custom graphics/features. Hell this was supposed to be my screw-the-fancy-stuff-just-complete-something game, but I once again fell into the endless circle of preparation. (First time I've ever talked my project down)

I'm debating how long to make the demo. Obviously if it is shorter it will be out sooner. However don't expect one too soon. I don't even know how big the full game will be at this stage. I certainly dont want to join those people who say 60+ hours.

Hehe thanks a lot Ravenith, Verad and twin Matrix. I've put myself under a lot of pressure now though. If I don't have an amazing completely original reason for the amnesia it seems people are going to crucify me... Heh. Actually I've only played 2 full, finished games where one of the characters can't remember anything. However I'm sure many other RMXP projects took it upon themselves to use it. I don't like that it's cliche but I wont change it. In fact I was inspired with the idea when had little to do with RPGs.

I too am using the slightly cliched element of amnesia, and it is slightly central to my plot. However I find if it is told in a great way, and not in the typical reason it can be done.

I LOVE your title, again like others have said it drew me to this topic. I can't join any teams, but every once in awhile if I find a topic that interests me I offer some of my services. ^^ PM me for things you need and I'll see what I can do. Not much I'm afraid but sometimes little things go a long way.

Funny thing is I don't even know why the title makes me turn my head, yet it does as others stated.

I've no personal gripes about the amnesia part of the intro. In fact, falling off the sky like that rather does spark my curiosity.

Notes on Pulling The Sky Down is A very intrigging title which is filled with curiousity to me. It reminds me of a line in a song I wrote, "monkey pulled the string that said pull, down came the sky and the cold" two thumbs up from me.

Wow thanks kiearaphoenix. I means a lot. I took a look at your project at it seems amazing. I am not interested on having a very large team anyway, I just would be gratefull just for some little help along the way. ^^

I really don't like to promise thinks I am not 98% sure I can deliver. Also, if I do something I want to do it RIGHT. If I include a mark hunting system (which I plan to), I wont have it half-assed. It seems simple to do but I want to have the full blown deal. However saying that I hope everyone doesn't expect too much now. Basically, I just want it to be more than talk to person A, kill monster B, talk to person A again and get reward. FFXII knew what they were doing, although I actually though of the idea before I played the game :P

@ Reives - And to think I forgot to mention that part when I first posted this!

monkey pulled the string that said pull, down came the sky and the cold
Hehe that's cool ^_^

So hows this project coming along, looks pretty good, although I see those damn facesets Alot, I wonder how does one just fall out of the sky anyway?

Hmmm, so im one of "those" people....

I understand why you are saying this, I admit its a SCARY thing to promise. I KNOW that my game will be 45+ on a rush and 60 - 70 on all quest. BUT I do not believe that size alone matters. I have played many games that only last a day and really enjoyed them. I hope to have at least a good 8 hours from a game on rmxp. But i dont think that is to much to ask.

let be serious a game is about the story... not how long it takes you to read that story.

I think that the most important thing in a game really is the balance. all characters need to have a good point and MANY bad points. it cannot be to easy more then anything. I would rather have a stupidly hard game and finish it with the feeling of "WOW I DID IT" then easy and feeling... "hmm ok what next"

Good luck. If you ever want anything looking at or a little help dont hesitate to ask.

thanks.

Y'know I almost thought this was YOUR game thread:-/

I personally would be very happy with 10 hours. Of course it would have to be 10 excellent hours :P Game making is such hard work. I don't really like ultra-hard games either XcuMaSoft, so don't expect to find one here.

So hows this project coming along, looks pretty good, although I see those damn facesets Alot, I wonder how does one just fall out of the sky anyway?

The project is coming along pretty well. Slowly maybe, but surely. All the characters personalities and backstories were worked out awhile ago. Now they pretty much seem to write the dialogue themselves. I am also writing the story out in fluent narrative. It takes more work than just writing dialogue but it was something I wanted to do anyway. I'm not sure if I will cover the whole story this way, but the intro at least. I have also planned out roughly the first half hour of the game extensively and have quite a few maps done now. I will add new screenshots soon.

As for the facesets I chose them because I thought they fit the characters. I used them before I realised how popular they were because I was out of the RMXP community for a long time. I got a bit attached to them and now it is hard to see the characters differently. But every time I see someone else use them that attachment wears off substantially. I just didn't want to be at the mercy of artists the whole way through the game and therefore sued pre-made stuff.

If you want to know how someone can fall out of the sky you will just have to play the game. ;)

I haven't seen that screen. I have grown fond of the name Diego now and I think I will keep it.

It does not need to be ultra hard... Just not ultra easy...

How long do you think it will be before you have a demo out? I know its cheeky but would it be possible to get the team on the beta test? hehe im cheeky i know :D

10 hours is more then enough! This is one of the few projects I really want to see make it! have another dose of GOOD LUCK :D

G-man that would be awesome! When you say mods, what exactly are you talking about? Because it sounds like what I will need haha. What can you do?

Thanks Xcuma ^^ I can't promise any dates for a demo. Because I'm one man working on this is takes a lot of time. I'm spreading my time all over the place. For example today, I spent all my time coming up with original races and backstory for the world. Yesterday I wrote all the into out in novel form. The day before I was mapping. It will all come together eventually and hopefully when it does it will be good!
And if I'm looking for Beta testers I will head your way.

I would also like to give a big thanks to Kiearaphoenix for helping out with the graphics a tad!

Hi!

Well, the name certainly pulled my interest. While long, it really does break the mold. And I don't have a problem with the amnesia, myself.

I like what I see, so far. You also seem to be aware of the pitfalls of planning to make a gargantuan RPG with many hours of gameplay and full-customization - which basically means that this is a project I would expect to make it to completion.

The "falling from the sky" thing is interesting; it reminded me of "Stardust". The characters seem interesting, too. Your writing is good, as well.

I would really like to see more of the story, a description of the world and locales the game takes place in, and more about the NPC characters (villains, allies, etc).

After getting a bit more text and descriptions on your world, you should make a request for a new title screen - maybe even some concept art.

I look forward to seeing more from you!
