"Melolune" (formerly "The Blue Star") [*New Demo and Video*]

Yeah I know what you mean about a younger inexperienced type getting pulled into this great adventure. It can be very cool, but difficult to do. FFXII did it very wrong... at the moment I can only think of Lord of the Rings where this very unassuming type gets pulled along this great adventure, and where one of the greatest characters is a sort of sidekick to the hero. IMO at least. I'll try to think of some more examples.
Just got done with a killer set of Mario Kart online with my sister, now its back to The Blue Star!

EDIT

I'm stuck in the cave where i need the antidote, what the heck? I hit some switches, I have no clues and I've fought a million badgers.

POST NOOB EDIT

FOUND THE LAST SWITCH!

I love LOTR, I can watch those movies over and over again, even just as background noise when I'm doing chores around the house or something :)  Have you played Suikoden?  If you haven't, I strongly suggest playing the first one.  It's one of those games where the first hour seems generic (corrupt military advisor, joining a rebellion against an Empire, etc.), but after the first hour the story is just wonderful.  I was so attached to one of the characters that I cried when... okay, I'll say no more in case you ever play it :P

Anyways, I mention it because that game has a hero that's really similar to mine, and it's the only game I can think of where the "half-hero" is done well.  I wonder if any other games here are utilizing a half-hero (not completely silent, but the younger-inexperienced-pulled-into-the-adventure-type).

Yay, you found it :)  Then I take it you've finished the demo... nice job!  Thanks for playing til the end, I hope you enjoyed it :)

Wow...the music you've composed is incredible. I can hear so much spirit in all of them, and just how much effort you put in to make them all as good as possible. Your music has essentially sold me on checking out this game once I get back to a non-Vista computer. =3

*listens to Traces again* <3

Thank-you Muse :)  I appreciate that you took the time to listen to the music, and I'm really glad you like Traces :)  I can't wait to reveal who Liele is in the story, so that the song will have a character to match it.

May 10th Update: Hope everyone is doing well :)  I thought I'd post a little update .  I've been rather busy lately with my day-job; I'm in the midst of soundtracks for 3 different games, one of which is proving to be quite challenging.  Although a first pass of music has been finished, I'm going to need to redo a lot of it because it ended up not fitting as well as we would have liked once implemented into the game.  And since I don't have an Xbox dev kit at home, I'm unable to test the music out in context unless I go into the office and play it in the background.  Spending so much time on an assignment only to find out it didn't fit properly makes me a sad-Laura.

The silver lining: While I was working on this project, I composed a few tracks where I'd think to myself, "Gee, I really wish I could use this for my own game... it really fits this particular scene..."  Well, it just so happens that one of those tracks I'm gonna have to redo from scratch is the one I really wanted for my game... so I guess that's good news, haha...

Anyways... without further ado, I give you... The Taezu Freedom Fighters.

I really like the style of this so far and I love the mapping... it's got a good atmosphere so far.  Keep at it. :)

It's also nice to see some people on forums that live in the same state as me... :-p  I live in the bay area in California, too. :-D:-p

@Magicant: Thanks Magicant, I'm glad you like it :)  I was hoping to evoke a lot of different feels with this one... I wanted it to be like the calm before the storm where everyone is reflecting on their pasts and how they came to be part of this cause... the uptempo part is supposed to represent their hope for a glorious battle and subsequent bright future... and the end is returning them to the reality that their outcome is still uncertain, anxious, portending...

@thelivingphoenix: Thanks for stopping by!  I appreciate your comment about the mapping because I've been spending a lot of time working on it... trying to establish a feel for each region :)  Hopefully soon I'll release another demo with all the new changes I've made.

Cool, you live in the bay?  Do you work/go to school around here?

Miss matcha im listening to it right now ^^ and liking it, fan #1 here and first to reply Woohoo!

edit: OMG i wasnt the first to reply :'( Not even close

Hm. Even though the download was successful, it won't extract properly.

I'll try it again. It sounds like an experince, so I'm totally willing to give it a shot. ^^

You are so funny busbuzz, that totally cracked me up :P  Thanks for the listen!

@Grooveman.exe: If that doesn't work out, I think the site also gives you the option to listen to the song without downloading.  There's a mini-player right above the download button.

I hope it's an experience!  The section with the Taezu Freedom Fighters is basically the next big segment in the game (after reaching Ciro)... from here it really pulls you into the meat of the story.

Oh, I want to play the demo, not just listen to the soundtrack. =D

The .exe downloads ok, but when I try to extract it only goes a tiny way before saying there's an error. Somewhat ironically, it does extract enough to give me an .mp3. >_>

Ohhh, hehe, gotcha :)  Hm, that's not good if it's not extracting properly.  Has anyone else out there encountered this problem?

I'm going to download it myself and see if I can get it to extract... hopefully if there's something wrong I can fix it.  I'll check with Reives also (he's hosting the game for me) to see if there was something the matter with the upload.

EDIT: Okay, I tried it out and it seems to be working for me... does anyone else know what might be causing this problem?

@missmatcha: yeah, I live on the east bay close to Richmond... :-p working at home as an seo/writer/internet marketer... and working on my own game project, which I hope to be able to pay people to work on soon... :-p  I like the look of your game so far, I just haven't had a chance to listen to any of the music yet. :(

The new song sounds very nice! c: At first the vocal synths felt a little keyboard-ish, if that makes sense. But as it progressed and the transition was very well done. My favourite part is the third section, around 1:42ish; it had a really respectful yet tense feel. And see, it's not all bad that you're redoing some of them; you get to keep all these goodies for yourself!

@Grooveman.exe: Okay, sorry about that!  Hopefully you'll get a chance to play the next one.  Oh, and again, your game sounds really cool!  Ever since I read the synopsis I've been really looking forward to playing a demo!  Any idea when one might be coming out?

@thelivingphoenix: Oh east bay, nice :)  I lived in Berkeley for several years during college, and I had a bunch of friends from the Richmond area (or rather, the Pinole/El Cerrito area).  I didn't like my landlords at all, but public transportation was good, hehe.  Good luck with your project... what is your game about?

@busbuzz: Yay, I will look forward to more of your funny comments, hehe :)

@Reives: Thank-you!  I know what you mean about "keyboard-ish"... I was actually kind of shooting for that (the kind of fake choir/etheral feel that Enya uses... not that my music is anything like Enya, but you know what I mean).  And you're right, I should look on the bright-side of things... I just hope that the bosses will accept this next pass!
