"Melolune" (formerly "The Blue Star") [*New Demo and Video*]

@Axerax: Oh wow, that's awesome :)  I have loads of respect for our soldiers!  Are you doing ROTC?  Or is it something where you have to give a certain number of months or years in service?

@Shingu: Thank-you for showing me that battle system, it's really cool.  I had no idea all that could be done within rmxp!  I downloaded the game and played through the tutorial (even though I can't really understand Portuguese).  Unfortunately, I think it's a little too late for me to switch over to a full-out ABS like that... but perhaps in my next game!  I actually prefer the "Secret of Mana" style of fighting, I find it more interesting.

@seto9008: Hm, well right now the battle system is just a simple sideview one.  However in the future there are a few key things I would like to add.  Besides the obvious battle animations, I also plan on having a system where characters can perform combination attacks with other characters that they are friends with in the game (for example, Achaius and Aero would have a special attack... as would Dominic and Sophie).  There will be many NPCs that the hero can convince to join them later in the game, and while they can't be in the actual party, having them "on your side" will allow the party to perform additional special attacks, and have access to battle items that they wouldn't be able to obtain otherwise.

For the time being... I'm trying to brainstorm ways to make the boss battles more interesting within the system that I am currently using (using "in-battle" events).  An example of this would be something like, if the boss could spawn a couple "helpers" to heal or protect him.  So if anyone has any ideas, feel free to throw them out, I'd really appreciate it :)

Oh, and I fixed a few things in the Melolune Caves...

I'm doing rotc right now as a soph, fun XD

the mountain map looks really neat, I like it, the rounded water really just makes so much difference, lol

@Axerax: I wrote some of the lyrics today :)  The mic station is all setup from last night (we were recording butter SFX for another game), so I'm going to try and get some scratch vocals.  I hope it turns out well.

@KRop: Thank-you for the link, there was some good information on that thread.  I often like to think about what makes battles more interesting... like, why did I enjoy the boss battles in Secret of Mana so much?  For whatever reason, they felt so exciting and satisfying!  What are some of your favorite boss battles?

@Eddie: Thank-you :)  I do the singing actually.  I'm glad you enjoyed the music!

@Lonewolf: Hi Hanzo, I remember you from your old name.  I'm part Japanese, too... chisai toki Sendai ni sundeimashita (Otousan no minna no kazoku wa ima Nihon ni imasu).  I return every couple years though to visit.  Do you have any family there now?  I think it's nice that you've done so many logos for people in the community, and I'm sorry to hear about the flaming :(  You didn't deserve to get attacked like that.  Also, thank-you for the offer to help with logo/graphic design.  I would really appreciate one of your logos.

@monkeydlu:  That's cool you are enjoying ROTC.  A few of my friends back in college were part of that; I remember seeing them shining their shoes in the lounge and going on runs around campus.  Thanks for the compliment; yeah the rounded water really helps... before, the waterfalls looked like random lines of blue shooting out of the sky, hahaha :P

Sounds great I am looking to reading and hearing what you've come up with :3

I don't game very often, but I think Master of the Wind has some pretty entertaining battles. Nothing I can point out specifically though.

Hi when will the Complete game come out because i got done with the game in 1 hour and i was hoping thee would be more to it and if yu need any ideas i would live to help you complete your game if it isn't alreadycompleted that is

@Eddie: No, I'm not married, haha... I'm glad you liked the singing :)

@KRop: Ah, I think so too.  I guess it's a fun process trying to explore the different things that can be done within the rpg maker battle events.  Right now I'm trying to figure out how to event a boss with a few helpers; it should be easy but for some reason I haven't been able to figure it out yet.  I'm hoping to have one heal, and one do a stronger attack (or something to that extent).

@SoupReaperGod: Oh cool, I'm glad you were able to play the whole demo, thanks!  To answer your question, the full game won't be finished for quite a while.  But I'm hoping to release another demo within a month that includes a few more hours of gameplay and a number of fixes that I mentioned earlier in the thread.  The entire story is about 150-200 pages long right now, so translated into gameplay it'll probably end up being about 20 hours total.

If you have any ideas about making the boss battles more exciting (using rpg maker battle events), that would be really helpful!

Hmmm Boss Battle's i guess you could make the boss's where they appear human but then they transform into their true form or make boss battle's have more than just one battle like 3 battle's but different forms

@_@ Holy shit.

I know where the freak does Miss Matcha gets these things and this game is based off a book Oh My God

@KRop:  Haha... I *wish* I worked that fast!  I've been working on those few extra hours of gameplay gradually since the last demo release.  I suppose if I didn't have a day-job, and I was super diligent, I might be able to work that quickly :)

@SoulReaperGod: Thank-you for the suggestion, I like the idea of having a boss with multiple forms (each form being a different battle).  I will definitely add that to my list!  And I wouldn't really call what I wrote a "book"... I don't think that my writing is nearly that organized :P  It flows more like a screenplay (dialogue, description of the scene, etc.).  The real trick will be getting all of that material into the game, and staying motivated enough to finish it.  But I appreciate all these comments, it really encourages me to keep working.

Hi Soul, I tried sending you a PM but it said that your inbox was full.  So I'll just respond here... thank-you for your offer to help out!  I could always use help, there is a ton of work to do.  Do you have any examples of your work?  I still have a lot of maps that need to be put together.

well i'm right now helping with a friends game to make more maps and city's and i'll see if i can find any examples or make some examples so you can see

Wow! Usually, I don't like vocal tracks in games but Traces is very beatiful! Your voice is very calm and express such nice feelings.

Keep up the good work!

Edit: Just listened to your version, Reives and you composed a very nice version! I Love it!
